Wow awesome .. I just refound this video. Great insight and help on the easiest way to replace my ujoints in the front. Now is the time and your video is one of the best I've found. Very grateful and appreciative for you effort to help us XJ lovers out here. I'm in the inland northwest .. maybe we can rip up some trails sometime. Love the groovin music in the background.

I've never seen this method before where you use the axle itself instead of a socket to remove the ujoints. Looks much easer and less room for error. Thanks!

Thank you much for the great instructional video! First time ever doing this replacement repair and you helped us understand each step. The air chisel trick was great. The only head scratching trouble was inserting the new ujoint back in the rod and tapping the greater cap back on for the clip without damaging anything. Many shouts out to ya!!!!!

Hey bud, I did my axle u- joints a few years ago and used the 5-760s also. Held up great to weekend fun and a trip to Moab. Still going strong. We've all forgotten some things while reassembling and I've kicked myself many times! One thing I did notice though, I believe that the spring washer is installed after the 36mm nut is torqued down. It serves to maintain pressure on the cap that is held in place with the cutter pin. Great channel.

Spicer joints are the way to go I think. I’ll have to check that spring washer. I thought I installed it the way you described but it’s very possible that I put it together wrong. Thanks for watching!

I finally replaced my U-joints and front axle shafts. The slide hammer one can rent from Autozone makes this easy. You just may have to grind/widen some of the bolt holes of the adapter. They don't seem to fit perfectly over some 5 bolt wheels. Leave the wheel bearing bolts partially in so that the wheel bearing doesn't fall out onto the ground.

You can also use the vehicles power steering to press the hub out. Use a deep well socket (impact rated) back out the 12 point bolt just like he did in the video but instead of a air hammer place the socket on the bolt and and wedge between the bold and inside knuckle (this takes 2 people) by turning the steering wheel. make sure you use anti-seize when you put the hub back on so it's easier if you even need to take it apart again.

Quick question. If you were replacing the entire axle assembly with new axles and hubs, can you just remove the 3 bolts holding the bearing to the knuckle and pull the whole axle assembly out with the bearing attached? **EDIT** 10:45 answered my question. Thanks!

thank you for showing step by step details, great video bro.i have death wobble bad and just found a toast u joint on passenger side. hoping thats the issue cuz DW sucks.
@TheOffRoadCorner4 жыл бұрын
Death wobble does suck. My stock Dodge Ram has had it off and on for 4 years now. Anything loose up front can cause it. Last time I fixed the DW was with a sway bar end link.
@fletchlives134 жыл бұрын
Thanks for response .. I've replaced sway bar links and main bushings and tie rod ends. Still here and now I found bad u joint. The rest is tight and looks healthy, it's difficult to pinpoint. Something is bad. Just bought it 98
@fletchlives134 жыл бұрын
98 xj, 4.0, stock w/ aftermarket 3.5 inch lift, new 30x9.50x15. Could a bad lift install and alignment is off a little, be the issue? Troubleshooting everything sense it's new to me
@TheOffRoadCorner4 жыл бұрын
Fletch Lives with DW anything in the front suspension and steering could be a cause. Bad lift is possible. The alignment being a little off shouldn’t be a issue unless the toe is way off. I’d start by checking ball joints and tie rods. From there check the trackbar bolts and bushings. The best way I’ve found loose parts is to have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth with the jeep idling and just look for anything loose in the steering or suspension.

My brother, we’ve all done things like the dust shield. I would have walked away for the day. Nice work, good composure. Amateur question: Why did you tighten 2 lug nuts when you were reattaching the brakes?
@aaronhjelmstrom9727 Жыл бұрын
The lug nuts are to bring the rotor into place to reattach the caliper.

I'm getting ready to do mine, have a bad u joint on the right side (1998 model). Does the right side (long axle) come out as easy as the left?
@TheOffRoadCorner4 жыл бұрын
It should. Getting the axle out of the housing is easy. I will take some effort to reinstall the axle without damaging the seal at the differential. Just try to line the axle up with the center of the axle tube as best as you can and take you’re time.
