Replacing Kenmore vacuum wand flat cable for PowerMate head

The PowerMate head of our Kenmore 600 Series cannister vacuum started working intermittently (and eventually stopped working all together) and I narrowed the cause to a broken flat cable in the extension wand. This video shows you how to replace the cable. I suggest watching the video all the way through as you can probably install your flat cable without the "trial and error" that I went through.

I suspect the same wand flat cable is used for all Kenmore cannister vacuum cleaners with extension wands, but best check for your model here: www.searsparts..., and search using your model number.

this will happen with all the kenmore canisters I've EVER had in the past.... from around 2004 to 2015 ish I had 3 of them.... all of them exactly the same issue around the 2 year mark... 3 if you were lucky....and I don't absue things. I take care of everything and this will happen no matter how much you baby your stuff.... I scratch my head if I see a comment where someone says something along the lines of "I've had my kenmore canister for 15 years and its' been great" All I can think is they just got really lucky

Just opened mine up trying to problem solve. The cable was naturally folding and overlapping in an S shape every time the extension wand was fully retracted causing a crease to form in the cable and that is were the cable failed. I won't be fully retracting the wand anymore with my new cable. Thank you for the video. It was very helpful.

"This is the part from Amazon" NOT. Searching Amazon for that description brings up 6 pages of ethernet, coax, and TV display stands. Nor does it work to search for the Kenmore part. Please provide the URL to the Amazon item. Sears parts wants $7 for shipping that little ribbon.
