You should make this an ongoing series. Showcase bitwig’s features by showing paid plugins which Bitwig makes obsolete.

@@PolarityMusic cool I think there's a lot of potential in videos like these. Thumbnails like this are really tempting to click, because it instills a sense of fear that I am wasting my money on tools that no longer provide real value to my productions in 2023.

@@PolarityMusic recently the channel @Lobotix used the Grid to make a patch very similar to Pitchmap. My hope is that new producers start to realize realize how much they can do using stock DAW plugins instead of spending thousands on paid plugins, and so far I'm convinced that Bitwig is the king of getting the most done with stock plugins. Also I think that if when I started producing, I had tools like the Grid, I would have understood so many engineering concepts way earlier!

I use Kick 2 regulary to rebuild an existing kick. I import a kick from a track i really like into Kick 2 then I preceisely match the waveform and take care of the right click sound. I build my own library of Kicks with that technique. Sure I could do this also with a beat synced oscilloscope and try to match the waveform with envelopes, but it seems more hacky. Would be nice to do this with bitwig as well :-)

If I use kick2 from my side found the click annoying, mostly muting it. However, the adjustments via envelope are so useful along with Frequency points. So .However, your approach seems better to me achieving a more individual sound. So that contribution is very useful. Thanks and best regards!

lol this is amazing, I love accessibility to creating your own instruments in the grid. This would be extremely difficult to make in reaktor in comparison. Also it's native to the DAW which means everything works fast, smooth, etc. Low CPU usage also. GUI designer in Bitwig for these home made devices would be pretty amazing.

I've been checking out your videos for some time and always super impressed. Before these segments came out, I purchased Infected Mushroom's (Polyverse) Gatekeeper, which is essentially the same thing as well as Kick 2. But the more you can directly in Bitwig (which is more of an instrument and tool than just a recording DAW) the better. Thanks again!

Very nice video! Looking forward for the official 5.0 release to use it in production! What I often miss when I design sounds in the grid are modules like an EQ, reverb, or compressor, when I want to apply these effects only to specific parts of the patch and not to the final output ... therefore the full integration of the grid in the signal path (not just linear processing) as you mentioned in the first 5.0 beta video would be really nice!
@vladartiomav2473
@vladartiomav2473 Жыл бұрын
For the EQ you can use filters for now. Low-pass, high-pass etc. But it would be a very nice addition! Even route the signal in an external VST (Valhalla for example) and routing it back in the grid, would be a killer feature. Don't know if it's possible to do though.
@olivergretz

@@vladartiomav2473 I know .. or using a band pass filter. Of course I could patch also the other effects like a reverb using the all-pass filters or a compressor. But for a fast work flow it would be handy to have these things already ready-to-use.

This is great but what it's still missing is the abstracted interface for it that still makes Kick2 "easier" to use in. my opinion. I think we need something like Reason's combinator 2 that allows you to use custom controls that will in essence, tap into the Grid.

My $0.02: consider using oscillator sync to reset your audio oscillators on each trigger. If you don't do this, the transient will change every time. The changes may or may not be detectable depending on your patch, and for that matter, they may be desirable. IME, with a techno/house beat, I want the kick to be either identical or have its changes be tempo-sync'd.

I guess I'm in the minority of people who still think Kick2 is the superior solution 😅 if I didn't already own it, I might consider using this method in the Grid or in Vital or Serum or Zebra or Dune or any synth with MSEGs, but since I do, I would choose Kick2 every time because it has the best workflow with log scale on the x-axis, zoom, meaningful node labels and the ability to easily load in references kicks, for visual matching.

it is really incredible what BitWig is growing to be. I believe soon will be the Ultimate DAW... it is quickly on its way. **My up to date Whish list> 1. let us configure the GUI 2. Make the MIDI Piano Editor more like Cubase 12 (more readable without needing to resize all the time) 3. Let us create MORE shortcuts and assign.... 4. PLEASE!!! do something like Cubase 12 Midi Remote Editor. 5. Add the Dolby Atmos Renderer. 6. Good Video Support. is it too much to ask? 😜 that's it! BitWig will be the Perfect DAW ** it is important to say that over the years, my BitWig whish list have been incrementally checked, I really appreciate the continued developement and vision of the creators.

Great turorial as always. However, the way I use Kick 2 is to re-create a kick I like from any song by copy ing/tracing the waveform in Kick 2 (it can be very time consuming). I then normally add saturation/distortion with another plugin. Maybe copying another kick would be possible using your method with an oscilloscope? Anyway your tutorial definitely opens the way to unique kicks.
@PolarityMusic
@PolarityMusic Жыл бұрын
oh you re-synthesize by manually tweaking the waveform? this sounds very time consuming. but i guess its clean once you get good result. yes you can use an oscilloscope for that, maybe even overlay your source kick. OR on top, even better, phase flip the source and fiddle around until the output is silence :D
@PolarityMusic

you can also use a sampler (with a kick) in the grid, put zero crossings on the output and it gives you a fairly accurate pitch envelope of the sample. maybe also useful for you

Amazing video ❤️ I've been digging through previous ones trying to find the grid remakes of RC20, Infiltrator, Soothe, Glitch, Morph EQ etc but can't seem to find any of them 😕 could someone point me in the right direction...? A playlist would be amazing! This whole topic is so fascinating I've been thinking about it a lot lately... I know that so many plugins out there are completely unnecessary but have no idea where to start with recreating them. I would pay good money to see a series on this topic, it would certainly be a lot cheaper than buying endless VSTs and I'd much rather acquire the knowledge to create and enhance my own versions than fill up my hard drive with even more clutter!
