Stupid question, when it comes to fuel lines, can you just take the line off assuming the engine isn’t running of course and it won’t be under pressure? I’ve heard stories of diesel fuel lines with enough pressure to cut steel
@57bagre4 жыл бұрын
Very good question, the fuel system you’re referring to is no longer used on trucks because they can’t control it by computer (my guess) this system still uses pressure but not so much, the camshaft supplies the needed pressure to fire the injectors. That high pressure nozzle injection system is still used on industrial and construction engines and uses steel fuel lines instead of flexible lines and can cause serious injuries by getting hit by a stream that you can’t even see. Thanks for the question.

You're thinking of common rail fuel injection, that's the fuel system that all modern diesel engines use. Fuel pressure in those can get over 30K psi and you do not want to crack one of those loose under pressure. The high pressure fuel lines are hard metal lines and are generally one time use, the flexible fuel lines are not under high enough pressure to do damage like that.

i had breakdown once due to smelling diesel and it was that line that had the leak. couldnt find a mobile mechanic to fix it. had truck towed 20 miles and mechanic replaced it. it was an $1800 cost between tow, labor and line. learning alot from you gordon. trying to do stuff my own here and there

When hoses are so close toghter, wrap one zip tie around both of them but don’t tighten it. In this case you would warp it horizontally. Then take another zip tie and wrap it around the zip tie u just installed but wrap it from top to bottom in between the hoses. When it’s done , the first zip tie will look like a figure 8. I’m not sure if that makes sense. Or just buy two small metal clamps that have rubber lining them and bolt those toghter. With hoses in them. Again, it will look like an eight when done. I’m not sure if that makes sense or not but I tired.

The S- cams on my truck have plastic bushings that wore out the s- cams. I've seen it elsewhere too.

That "grid" piece in the trough there... that's there to keep rodents, birds, and homeless people the hell out of that trough where the wiper mechanism could do them harm when it goes into motion. It's also kind of helpful if you're up there working on the clearance lights, or the air horns, or the visor (if equipped). Keeps you from dropping tools down into the trough, which could set off a storm of cursing that anyone within earshot might not appreciate :)

I'm always setting things up there on that grate. I have magnets for retrieving dropped tools and fasteners. Sometimes something won't stick to a magnet though.

I think I’m getting air in my fuel supply line same motor as this one. First it wouldn’t start up so I used starter fluid. Now it’s getting harder and harder to start but once it crank It will run all day. But if i cut it off even after one min it takes for ever and a lot of starter fluid to get it back running.

I have an oil leak coming from either the injector harness or the threaded fitting that transfers the fuel into the block from what I have seen, is there anything else there I should be looking at it is very hard to tell where it's coming from but I've replaced the cam cover gasket and also took off the injector harness and put Silicone on the block and the rubber to seal it better. Would that fitting for the fuel potentially leak oil?
@57bagre3 жыл бұрын
The fuel inlet fitting can leak fuel but not oil. That cover gasket has to be CLEAN and DRY when you put it on, only a small dab of silicon in the corners of the cam covers. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6PGdXqJn7CEmrM
@naterocksable3 жыл бұрын
@@57bagre it was actually leaking from the rear cam bearing cover, it was pretty hard to tell due to not being able to see. The last time the engine was built someone must had put sealant

@57bagre4 жыл бұрын
I have a friend with a truck like that who wanted to hire on where I work but thought the electronic log would not be required for that year but they put it in and it worked and my friend told them to take it out and he quit before he pulled his 1st load, I was grandfathered in and am getting away without it.
