Got to love it, easy engine to fix and run. Down side the 60 is one of the loudest Diesel engines for over the road uses but the milage is good and torque is great. All around good engine.

Wow I feel stupid now at wondering how that was done. God rested after the series 60 was created. Can't get any better. Even though Detroit tried.

Hey nice work Duke and great video! You're the man. Beautiful country out there. Looked like a tough day for Samson. Thanks for sharing. Stay buff dude!

Think I need to tackle this project soon, my fuel pump has oil leaking from it. I'm thinking thru the weep hole but the truck fires right up

Was there wiring at the bottom of that fuel pump? I just bought one from freightliner with the engine number.

I’m more inclined to believe it was the filters. I have never seen one of those fuel pumps go bad. I try to talk people out of replacing them because it’s a waste of money and that’s never it. Glad it worked for you, that’s a rare failure.
@scottberry5266 Жыл бұрын
Ok, so what is the problem?? You posted the same thing on a different video. I have a series 60 12.7 that acts like it’s running out of fuel. Can’t give it any throttle or it just spits and spudders. Changed the filters and boost sensor last night but no luck. Put new fuel lines on it a few weeks ago along with new fuel tanks. The truck starts and goes down the road but you have to feather the throttle very lightly. I’m open for suggestions.

Hi, How did you get the air out?
@robertrinaldi87485 жыл бұрын
Why didn't you need to bleed the system after changing the fuel pump?

YOYO the Series 60 is a Unit injection engine. This means the pump only sends the fuel to the injectors at a 70 PSI. And the injectors have a plunger that brings the pressure up to proper pressure. All you need on one of these engines is for the charge pump to have fuel and the rest will self prime.

Did you have to prime the fuel system after replacing the fuel pump or did it fire right up?
@diyduke Жыл бұрын
I cranked a bit to see and it worked without priming

Great video Duke excellent work in green pastures. I’m not a mechanic but I’m inspired by your video to change my fuel pump got 03 12.7 Detroit 1.18million miles but runs daily got some days I’ve had to use the starter spray ,what you think any tips will be appreciated...can’t beat the call of the hound dog 4 leg friends are best...happy trails
@diyduke6 жыл бұрын
+richly mann thankyou, yeah love those Detroits. Just want to mention to check your fuel filters too (you may have done it already). The Detriot in the video has 3 and one gets dirtier than the others which creates a hard start-up. Thanks again.

Would the fuel pump going out create fault 73?
@rodneyjohnson20644 жыл бұрын
How do I know if mine is going bad
@diyduke4 жыл бұрын
The major reason most of the time is actually fuel filters and some trucks have more than one filter so that should be the first and simplistic thing to check.
