Replacing Motorcycle Air Filter on Yamaha FZS600

Quick walk through on how to replace an air filter on a Yamaha Fazer FZS600. A simple servicing job that anyone handy with a socket set should be able to handle. The FZS600 air filter is a spot awkward to gain access to as the fuel tank needs to be removed first, however this is not as bad as it first sounds and should not put you off.

Important. Il faut aller doucement pour enlever le cache en caoutchouc et ne pas tirer dessus car il fait également office de fixation des cachés latéraux. Sur ma moto,il avait déjà été un peu endommagé. ✌️

I have an 01 Fazer, assume it’s the same I think 03 onwards there were design changes though.

Yep, all the original Fazer 600s from 1998-2003 should be the same like this. Later ones had a slightly larger fuel tank mind.

Has your tank any vacuum hoses attached mine doesn't 02 model it only has the pet cock tap I only noticed when I was changing the air filter

Yeah, the FZS600 doesn't have any vacuum hoses to the fuel tank tap, just the manual pet cock tap. Don't forget to turn it back on before you finish and head off, otherwise you won't get far down the road. I can confirm this from personal experience... :-D

Was the K&N filter a noticable upgrade? I've heard a lot of good things about them...

+spoonlamp TBH I didn't really notice much difference. But then 90% of my ride is mundane commuting in London, I don't really push the bike hard. It was more the reusability aspect that really sold it to me. However, I've since found the cleaning, drying and re-oiling of the filter for services can be time consuming and hassle. You've got the tank off the bike for at least a day whilst waiting for the filter to dry out before re-oiling.

is there anything I have to regard while putting on the tank again? I'm afraid of getting false air getting sucked, or generally having air in the fuel pipe..

Don't worry about it. You can't prevent some air getting into the fuel pipe and it'll soon work it's way through and be barely noticeable to the engines running. A momentary splutter at worst.

nah dont worry it doesnt happen with fazers just make sure to pull tank pressure pipes and over flow pipes through to original position just pull down from side of clutch cover

My 2000 FZS 600 won't go over 90 mph... Any suggestions, the clutch is fine, the air filter is new, and the ignition cables are new it pulls well up to 80... I'm beaten on this one.

hmm, not sure. carbs balanced laterly? maybe check fuel lines/filter etc

Try turning the twist grip on the right handle bar a bit more.......

Yes, little stop tap under tank. Undo front tank bolts, angle it up a bit, turn off fuel tap, then remove fuel pipe. Use a rag to catch the drips of petrol. Pull of fuel gauge sender, then you undo rear tank bolt and remove.

@@Beginnerbiker hi bud all fazers hate k&n filters they let too much air in it bogs the bike down loads, had 6 different fazers and still riding them use oem originals from bike manufacture
