Replacing My Grips AGAIN! Installing Ergon Grips

So... I had to replace my grips on my mountain bike yet again! I am constantly having issues with my hand going numb while riding. One of you guys recommended trying these grips, so I thought I would give it a try!

Great vid MB..I have the same grips on both my bikes. They keep my wrists straight. I had one broken wrist and a broken arm and these help with the numbness and pain. I also swear by carbon bars also. The combination of bars and grips help so much. Good stuff and keep it up.

Just put out a review of these. I have been quite happy with them so far, nice & soft with a tacky feel. I suffered with numbness initially, but slightly lowering the 'heel' support sorted it. Nice comfortable grip that provides nice degree of control.

They're so great! I've been using a bike that has just basic grips on it since I didn't bring my bike with me and wow, it's such a huge difference going back to regular grips!

I use the Ergon GP2 grips with a suspension stem. I've had 2 surgeries on my elbow, and it makes all the difference in the world. Happy Ripping!

I had numbness too and the ergo grips worked after a bit of tweaking . I bought fingerless riveter's gloves with padded palms because they looked cool and were on sale . I lowered front tire pressure around the minium pressure but not the back because the vibration that is uncomfortable comes mostly from the front . If I lower rear tire pressure the bicycling becomes more difficult to maintain a good speed .

I was having problems with my giant stance 2. The problem is those handle bars are to low. So i replace my with a 3" inch raiser bar. And is so much better. I dont lean too much on the bars anymore.

No problem! Another thing that I found that has help a great deal is a carbon bar as well. It helps absorb so much of the feedback in your hands.

They feel good and have that support but the problem with these if you do drops itll twist the bars towards you because of the palm wings. Definitely only good for regular trail.

Thanks! I've tried adjusting my bars, but that didn't seem to work. I've done a lot more trails since I replaced my grips with these and it really has made a world of difference! I have little to no numbness at all now in my hand when I ride. Definitely recommend these if you get numbness too!

The ergons are way better then those raceface grips for sure,make sure the grips stay at the perfect angle so your wrist is not twisted up or down,the wrist should stay kind a flat(a little angle is ok...),i use ergon gp1 on my xc bike,on my enduro i`m using egron GE1 or Odi Rogue(if i go on a rocky trail usually putting the Odi`s,they are way more beefier and absorb the bumping better...).The positioning and the angle of your wrist+ the hold is crucial no matter what kind of grips are used,anyway ergon make it more easier to position,maybe you should try the odi rogue grips too ,maybe they will perform better downhill on those rocky LA trails.Do not underestimate the gloves too .The fork setup for the terrain is important,your bike`s fork looks like an entry level suntour fork(idk what model it is so not sure what can be adjusted there...)i`ll say if you want to upgrade,just get another higher level bike cause a fox fork or rockshox fork will be expensive and it`s always cheaper in long term to get a higher level complete bike then to start upgrading an entry level bike... ;)))

The Ergons have made a huge difference so far, so I'm glad I switched! Thanks for the tip too on the angle! Right now my fork is a RockShox 30 RL Gold Solo Air. I haven't been mad at it, but have been interested in trying to demo other bikes with different suspension to see.

its a good fork,just make sure the air in it at the proper psi according your weight and the rebound is at your desired speed,fork pump will be helpful and its just a few min set up for the fork ;)))

They definitely have, which I was surprised. I didn't think they would make that much of a difference. I went down one of my usual trails that is a black diamond. It is one of the trails that ALWAYS leaves my hand numb after. When I got back to my car I had no numbness what so ever. Definitely recommend these!!

Thank you! I played around with it a lot to figure out which angle was the best for me. I adjusted as I was going down a trail that usually gave me a lot of issues with my hand and that helped to figure it out that way!

Ah, sorry you're having that issue too! When I bought a new bike last year I switched to RevGrips. They have been great and I haven't experienced numbness in my hands. With this though, I am also curious if the geometry of my old bike had anything to do with it or my positioning on the bike. My bike that I have now has a really slack geometry.

I tried this and it reduced my wrist pain but my palm gets numb after an hour or so. Has that happened to you?

I never had my palms go numb, but my pinky would go numb riding aggressive trails down, so I did a lot of stopping and adjusting going down to get it right.

Ah, I don’t have my bike with me on the east coast right now, or I would check for you! When I got the grips I ended up riding down a downhill trail that gave my hands a lot of issues. Along the way I kept stopping to adjust periodically to figure out the best angle! Hopefully that helps a little!

I’ve had Ergon grips. Those things do make a lot difference. But I also think the forks on the stance aren’t the best- thus leading to sore hands and arm. Maybe fork upgrade sometime soon? A pricey upgrade but for sure is a huge game changer if you’re able to upgrade.

They really do! I hardly have any numbness in my hand now since I switched out the grips! The fork hasn't bothered me too much on the trails I ride, but will probably definitely upgrade at some point in the near future. Any forks you recommend?

@@MorganBishopp I'm not sure what your budget is but I've had Fox 34 forks. And they are the best bang for your buck in my opinion. They are easy to dial as they only have one knob between a "Firm" and "Open" setting. They feel really great in the open setting.

markoseln As long as you’re not having wrist pain doing other things outside of mountain biking, I would say it’s probably nothing to worry too much about. It might help as well to play around with the angle of your handlebar to see if that helps at all!

I recently bought a new bike, so I haven't swapped the ga3 grips over. Instead I've been running RevGrips (which was tough to swallow the price for grips). I've heard so much hype around them and gave in, lol. Still giving myself time to test them out, but I have really, really been liking them for hand fatigue.

Not at all! That was one concern I initially had too with that small platform coming out. It's so much easier on my hands, especially when going downhill.

They definitely helped some! I still got a little numbness with these too, but nothing like I had before. A lot of it I think was the geometry of my bike. I wonder if I would have made little adjustments to my seat, moving it back and also with the stem if it would have helped even more.

Nice video. Beautiful, which place is this ?? I would really like to ride here. Numbness is normal when riding. For relief try to change your hand position on the handle bar once in a while, this could be difficult on a rough terrain though. You could also hold the handle with one hand (only if possible) and flex around the other hand, repeat for the other hand as well. However since you say the numbness remains for a day, your problem is somewhat like the Carpal Syndrome. I think you should consult a doctor for a more professional opinion and a remedy.

I had some issues with my hands going numb as well. After switching from gel cushioned/padded gloves to gloves without any palm padding or cushioning that problem was gone. So maybe you want to give that a try before getting new grips. If that doesn't help, these grips seem to be amazing.
