The grip cracked because you are not installing the grips properly, you are only pushing the grip on by about 80% leaving 20% hanging in fresh air. The bar should go the full length of the grip.

Ergon grips crack towards the end even when fully seated on the bars.

@@MarkMiwords-sq3xg Been using Ergon grips for years and this has never happened to me. I have a pair of Ergon GE1 Evo Factory grips that have been going for 3 years and look brand new. Typically ride 2k-3k a year. p.s. I don´t work for Ergon. 😅

first time i've seen someone install grips based on where they like there brake levers. loosen brake levers, install grips until they lock into the end of the handlebar which they do with a click. then adjust brake levers relative to were the grips are not the other way around.

Just buy wider bars and it won't crack again. It just cracked because you are bodging your way into having wider bars without really having wider bars.

How to properly install then does it incorrectly and complains about the result. 😂 Correct way. Slide grip on bar. Install bar end completely into bar end hole. Now slide the grip back so it mates with the bar end. Then, and only then, should the grip be tightened.

Same thing happened to me in the snow. The bar end fell out after a crash and I lost it. Can't seem to find replacement in stock anywhere for it in the matching colour though :( do you think a metal cap replacement would work? I'm tempted to replace them with a generic metal ones from Amazon as I think they'd be more robust.

I would personally avoid metal bar ends as they tend to scratch or get scratched really easily. For example, I tend to lean my bike up against my truck on occasion. Not a great practice, but it happens. If I had metal bar ends, I would very easily scratch up my paint. Hope that helps.

Can you add barends on these grips ?

Although we haven't tried it so I can't confirm, it should be possible as the end caps on the grips can be removed exposing the handlebar. You have to make sure your cockpit is set up so that the grips can slide in enough and allow room to mount bar ends. Hope that helps.

Ergon make a range of winged grips with integrated bar ends of different lengths. Have a look at the GP2 to GP5 grips (GP1 is the same grip without a bar end).

I just put a pair of GA3's on my bike yesterday. Though I really like the grip's comfort (so far), I'm not a big fan of how Ergon has that plastic sleeve/insert at the grip end, especially if it potentially cracks so easily in a simple fall-over. I do however like how it makes my already wide Moloko Bars even wider by a few centimetres. My one other very minor gripe is that I cannot get the plugs to seat properly. They want to work their way out, and I figure I'll lose them on my first proper ride -and that bugs.
