finally replacing my old fragaria virginiana sp glauca. it's been a long time coming and it just needs to be replaced. wild strawberries frow very quickly ans can easily overcrowd themselves vegetatively without runners in the span of just a year or two (it can take 3 to 5 for modern garden strawberries to reach the same point) this can cause the plant to become weak, produce poor fruit or none at all, and cease to produce runners entirely. runners are an idea way to replace these plants ideally in the year before it begins to decline as once it stops producing runners you really have reached the point of no return. this is what happened to this plant 3 years ago and the only way I was able to save it was by performing a crown division. crown divisions are an easy way to multiply or rejuvenate plants because they already have some root mass but they can occasionallv carrv some of that weak growth that the old plants it came from had. this particular guy took over 2 years to reach a healthy appearance and produce one singular runner which I rooted and am replacing it with in this video. it is now growing quite well and already flowering again like the origional did in its lush and healthy state.
This is one of the parents of my wild strawberry hybrids I have showcased a few times now that I'm very excited to share more about this next spring when I finally get to analyze the fruits.
