I Tried To Grow 100 Baby Kiwis

I took 5 kiwis and experimented on them to see if we could grow our own kiwi fruit at home (in Canada!). One kiwi turned into a chain reaction of kiwi experiments that taught me exactly how to grow hundreds of baby kiwis at home - the first time around. Well… this is the story of what happened!
🥝
Btw - here are some unique facts you’ll learn about in this video:
1. Kiwis grow on long vines.
2. You can train kiwi plants to grow vertically to conserve space and to do this you can use a trellis or other structure and fix the leaves onto the support system.
3. You’ll need 2 kiwi plants if you’re growing them at home - one male and one female. That’s because kiwis are dioecious, meaning that male and female flowers grow on separate plants, and both are needed to pollinate each other and to produce fruit.
4. Kiwi berries are also known as hardy berries.
5. Kiwi berries are just a miniature version of the regular kiwi that we all know and love. They are smaller, sweeter, and have edible skin.
6. Kiwi berries are a great alternative to regular kiwis for people who find the fuzzy skin of kiwis unappealing.
7. Kiwi berries are native to Asia and were first grown in China. They were first introduced in the United States in the early 1900s!
8. The floating seed test method can help determine which seeds are viable for growth - the ones that sink will grow, and the ones that float will not grow.
9. Adding vermiculite, perlite or mulch to your soil can add extra aeration so the soil doesn’t get too soggy or moldy.
10. Kiwi vines are hardy and can tolerate temperatures as low as -25°F, making them a good fruit option for colder climates.
11. When planting a seed, ensure to try both germination on paper towel, and planting seeds directly in soil. This way, you’ll give yourself more options of successful germination and growth, just in case on method fails. The more…the merrier!

@@growithjessie Not yet, I managed to slow down the population only. I think I have them flying in the air here. I did an experiment, I took one tomato plant from my balcony, cleaned it, and cleaned the roots, drowned the whole plant in water for an hour. Then I brought it inside and put it in water the kratki style. There were no other plants inside for a long time... And in one week it was covered with spider mites.... On my balcony, I tried many methods. Put ladybugs, but they refused to eat them, they were interested in flowers. Tried some sprays: X-Mite killed mites with the plant. Other sprays based on garlic oil were burning the leaves. The mild effect on plants has the neem oil. That is what I use now, but they keep coming back. Diatomaceous earth did nothing...

Yes, same. Some plants I grow require spider mite control too. Luckily, some plants (like morning glory) are possible to protect by hand. I squish adult pests with my fingers and wipe out the nymphs/eggs with wet paper towels. The more often you inspect your plants, the better. In early stages it is quite possible to control the population of this pest. At first I thought that only aphids are possible to remove by hand, but later discovered that spider mites can be defeated too this way on some of the plants. The bigger the leaves and the less fur on them, the better. Sadly some beautiful flowers (like marigolds) are just impossible to protect without damaging the plant in the process too.

@@growithjessieIt's from china, but sometimes you can find them at vegetable stores(somehow) in Saudi Arabia, but once late at night (like almost when the sun is out)my little sister had a kiwi I wanted to try one and I asked my grandmother:why is it yellow?,she said: it's because they're mango flavored kiwi's. And I was like woah that's so cool!, and I ate the other all three.

She almost never manages to keep the plant alive long enough to bear fruit. Those squirrels or the Canadian winters end up ruining it. I live in Minnesota, so I know those winter feels. The titles and thumbnails are always a bit on the clickbait side, but if you've been watching her content for a while, you know what you're in for 😅

@user-se6dr9yc2e I'm not really defending it, either way. There was a time when I was disappointed as well, thinking she had some fruiting plants. I get that this brings in the views, but I've never been a fan of click bait. Still enjoy the content though.
