I agree needs some shims on the one side for the Torsion Bar to pull the passenger side of the axle to the left a little

Gordon, It seems you have good eye to check your rear alignment, but have you ever tried the old way of string alignment between the back edge of the trailing tire and the leading edge of the front tire on the chassis rear?

Will that offset change after a short drive? There could be unresolved tensions in the assembly.

I have another way to do alignment that would take too long to type out here, I only explained a little bit of what I look for in the video. Thanks for watching Drew.

I wonder if they could rebuild the old bar , I also have replaced them on my truck. I was thinking that is was a waste of steel , it just looks like you could replace the bushings., but I guess it’s about how much it would cost. Thanks for sharing
@57bagre2 жыл бұрын
There's no good reason they can't make bushings for that but they just don't.

Ahh yeah , replaced mine a couple months ago . Used my Milwaukee but soaked nuts in penetrating fluid overnight before attempting . good job.

Try the new makita XGT 40 volt 3/4 drive impact, they are 700.00 but well worth it. 1000 foot pounds of torque
@donmcintosh41252 жыл бұрын
We called them torque rods, because they counter the torque on the differential

Requires proper shimming for axle center or it will be offset. Then a proper thrust check to front wheels for torsion alignment.

Gordon, thank you so much for sharing your videos and knowledge, I always learn something new every time. But will you please do me a favor and take that beauty to the Blue Beacon for a bath..? 👍👍💚🚛
@57bagre2 жыл бұрын
I don't do that for 2 reasons, we only have one in the area and it's across from a Flying J, the wait in line is always a couple hours and the other reason is it will be loaded with all that mud again in a couple days on my job. I usually do a Blue Beacon once a year after the last snow and pass by a carwash with an outside boom and wand when I need to do some work under the truck.

Love your videos. Dog Bones look easy but require a full day or two to accomplish. Personally, I do not recommend this for a novice or shadetree mechanic. Many tools are required.

If it was on a car or small truck it would be called a Panhard bar

why diddent u just heat the nuts with the cutting tourch. Then the impact would of spun them off easy

Definitely not a torsion bar. A torsion bar, in an automotive application, is essentially a spring. If we consider the most common use, in Chrysler's larger RWD passenger cars, the tension on the bar determines the level of resistance to irregularities in the road surface. The bar itself actually twists against its anchoring points. In a Class 8 truck, Kenworth offered a torsion bar suspension through much of the 70's. In your truck,, Gordon, those particular bars are used to locate the axle, perpendicular to the frame. Since the bars themselves do not actually twist, it would not be correct to label them a torsion or torque bar or rod (the prefix "tor" means "to turn"). I would think calling them Panhard rods or maybe just control arms, is probably as close as one could get.

I always called them track bars on pickup trucks, but when I got my cdl the instructor thought I was crazy. He said he never heard of a track bar, and that it was a torsion bar. I said something about torsion bars being a spring for suspension and he didn't like that so I shut up.
