This video convinced me to change the three solenoids on my 07 grand prix w/165,000 miles. The car had a case of the hiccups with cold oil on upshift and was getting worse. This fixed that problem but it still hunts a bit, which seems like the tc valve, in certain situations. I moved everything possible in chassis and still just barely had enough room. Took off engine mount and shifted everything to the passenger side. I was worried I'd drop one of the retaining clips but luckily I didn't.

Little tricks make that job easy.. #1 tie fishing line on the wire clip #2 wedge solenoid in place then use long needle nose pliers to line up & long screw driver to pop clip back in..only thing I removed was the trans mount ,tire & pan(keep cv axle it's not in the way)..dental tools work to.. but the fishing line will save you alot time of trying to dig it out or finding it

Thanks for the help. I did this on my 2009 Malibu and didn't have as much space ,since the cover was butted up to the frame, as you did to maneuver but like you mentioned with patience and grit I got it done. I didn't drop the sub frame as some videos have suggested. Again thanks for the video.

Best this about this Vid, straight to the point and no “like and subscribe” stuff lol I have the erratic shifting in my 03 lasabre. Start it in the morning, let engine run 10mins. Then when it shifts to 2-3rd gear it pops out of gear, does not engage unless when full throttle (it does a dangerous thump into gear) or complete stop . Most of time when car is warmed up about 1 or 2 miles it starts to shift decent. From what I’ve read so far major labor getting to those solenoids until I saw this Video thanks 🙏🏼

The placement of these solenoids are absolutely ridiculous! I have a perfectly good, running vehicle, other than one solenoid going out, which causes my vehicle to stay stuck in first gear and won't shift properly until approximately 25 minutes after warm-up, and still tends to act up afterwords. I just do not have a select few of the proper tools or, the amount of time it will take to get the job done, seeing how I only have this one mode of transportation, and there is nobody in my hometown who does this specific kind of work. Solenoids are commonly known to wear out, and if this is a known occurrence, why must it be placed in such a onerous area of the vehicle? Automotive engineering is such a phenomenal feat, but yet makes me ponder and question the stupidity of placement on such expendable components. Hate to fulminate, but...F***!

I've got a 1996 supercharged Riviera and when it's cold, I put the car in gear and it clunks into gear and dose the same hard shifts in all gears until it warms up. Then the car warms up it still does it just not as bad. Is the problem most likely the shift solenoid? I took it to AutoZone to have them run a scan and that's one of the codes that came up the transmission solenoid.

No, this is a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu. Google says that the 4t45e transmission is in the 2005-08 cobalt same as the one in this video.

The ‘05 Cobalt will be the same job. Actually more room in the Cobalt, as there are fewer components in the way, and the battery is in the trunk.
