Update ! 2003 Chevy Tahoe 4.8L 4wd 331K miles. Here what has happen, I went to drain the tranny fluid and the drain plug bolt head stripped so I drilled a small hole in the pan and drained the fluid, I purchased a used refurb pan then took down the pan I changed the both solenoids A-B 2-3 3-2 then buttoned the pan up fill with fluid and it works ! Shifts nicely and its fast ! Thank you !

I have a new problem. This video is excellent, hubby a mechanic, but really retired. My GMC Yukon XL Denali 2011 has had a slight problem for about 6 months, occasionally at a light, I press the accelerator and it jerks into gear as I take off. Then while driving home from a long trip a few days ago, at the start of the trip, driving 75-80 mph at times for the first hour. Stopped at rest stop, then when I got on the road the shifting wasn't working correctly. Sometimes when accelerating, the rpm's shot up but the car didn't seem to want to accelerate. We ended up driving home with the TOW button pushed and babied it going home. Hooked it up to a scan and it isn't giving any codes. We want to start with replacing both solenoids and checking the harness ends. But according to the friend mechanic that hooked it up, said it wasn't looking like it even has a solenoid in the transmission (like that particular transmission doesn't have one). He said all of this was confusing, not making any sense. So he will speak to some other guru's on it. Has anyone had something similar?

I need your opinion on this one because I’m not sure so whenever I got the car I was told the trans was “rebuilt” it goes all the way to 3rd gear an will not go to 4th I manually put it in 2nd an it’s fine does feel sluggish going threw gears but it will not go into 4th well at least this is what I’m thinking because the car starts raving alittle to high I think it’s perfect till I get at about 60 or 65 an then you start to realize it’s not shifting oh an also if you kick it down it doesn’t down shift from what I can remember I’m gonna go for another drive an test it again do you think this could potentially be my problem because the trans doesn’t feel bad whenever I manually put it in second it pulls great even 3rd pulls great just no 4th

Hey Scott, hope all is well for you and thank you in advance. I have just purchased a 2002 GMC ENVOY SLE, i was told the transmission was out . It had been sitting , at this point approximately 4-5 weeks. I arrived and started the engine and just for kicks pulled it in reverse and it took! I then pulled it 8n drive and it took. So i pulled it back into reverse and backed , up hill, out if the drive and proceeded ti go forward about 25 yrds , when i went to back up to turn around it would not take gear acted as if it was in neutral. So i psid the lady and loaded it on a roll back and brought it home to start researching . So the next day i went to fuse #47 in the rear block and sure enough the fuse was blown !!! - BUT-. i boosted it back off again ( battery is shot) and took off to town to try it out ans get some fuel. I got on it pretty good when i left and laid pretty good rubber and thoyght i had stole this envoy for no other than a fuse!!! NOPE.... LOL! made it about a mile and it started to be sluggish trying to shift and then juzt as if it was in neutral again ...not pulling at all. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Was roasting tires like a goofball doing some weight transfer in the rain in my 2013 silverado. Went home went to bed woke up and now my 1-2 shift revs really high and finally drops in after it hangs at 4.5k. If I let off the throttle at 2.5k where it used to shift it shifts into 2nd no problem at all. Checked fluid And level was really low so put a few quarts in and that helped a little so now under light throttle at a stop sign it will shift basically fine again but anytime I put a little bit more than a little throttle it pulls the rpms up real high and holds them until it hard shifts

This is the best video I've came across so far on this subject. My 03 just started acting up. It's stuck in second gear.i thought well it's gone. But when i hooked up my scan tool it said sylnoid b. So guess that's better than a busted tranny. I've never done this before but you explained it well enough I'm about to jump on it. I've swapped tranny's dozens of times but never a sylinoid. Hope that's all it is

@@roamsolo yes it worked pretty easy fix. You will have to loosen yourexzaust manifold bolts to get your pan off. You dont have to take them off. Just loosen so you can pull the exhaust down a few inches. Make sure you replace both A & B sencor. That way you make sure it's not going to fail. I got A.C delco off amazon for $35. And it fixed it. I changed the filter while i was in their as well. Shifts great now. Good luck.

Thank you Scott for the informative video I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe 4.8L 4wd 331K miles the codes are P0758 Shift Solenoid 2-3 I bought transmission filter kit with the A-B Solenoids and a 3-2 shift I figure Ill change it any way. Ill do this in a few days I feel very confidant to do this task while the Tranny is still mounted performing it upside down. Seeking your advice; 98 chevy c1500 4.3 4l60e. Sat for 5 years. Was a gift. Changed filter/fluid. Nothing major at the magnet. Just small dust. When cold trans shifts in all gears. Once slightly warmed, it shits the first hard(brutal). After that it doesn't shift. What's your opinion?

They are both the same. If you are gonna replace one, replace both. The the shift valves fir movement and the wiring harness for continuity if you are gonna be there. I think that info on parts is in the description. I'll update soon if not. Good luck on your diy fix.

B is nearest to the accumulator. The part numbers you gave are for different parts. The a and b are the same. The 3-4, is a different part number.

Is your gear selector moving under the truck when you move the selector on the dash? If fluid is good you probably have no line pressure. I'd think something with the pump is bad. Highly unlikely but have you checked the filter? Make sure its clean and properly seated?

Scotties Hobbies it’s like 50/50 sometimes it wants to sometimes it don’t when you first start it up it will go into gear and move for like 15 seconds and then go back into what seems like neutral. Filter is like it should be. Thought it would be something electrical just not working properly just don’t know how to electrically test a solenoid.

@@e7904 usually a bad solenoid will effect one or a few gears. You will still get forward or reverse movement if a solenoid is bad. I do have a few vids covering testing the shift solenoids. But if you have no movement I'd thing the pump is not giving the pressure it should to work.

I bet your sun gear is probably stripped out. The computer is probably confused. It might be worth a try, replacing the solenoids but I doubt that will fix it. Atf is about 40 bucks for 5 qts, you don't want to drain and fill that thing to many times.

You can check the ohms of resistance using a multimeter. I don't remember what the specification is off the top of my head. You could also use a 9 V battery is the battery and see if the solo noid clicks when you apply 9 V power.

your videos definitely helped me a lot. However I'm not great with electrical so heres where Im at. P0756 code. but was having very low power long before the code came. did everything you said. Solenoids test perfect and valves didnt seem to be gunked up. there was a small wear spot on them in the finish but suspect thats normal. My issue is with the wiring. have a cheap probe from harbor freight but it works. Only one of the harness wires for each of the 5 or 6, 2-wire connectors inside the trans will show ground with the key off. (I haven't tried it with the key on). it seems in one of your videos you said they both need to show ground. Does this mean my harness internal harness is bad?

I have not figured out what is a noticeable difference on this situation yet but not all of the valve bodies have a spacer on the solo noise. If yours did not do not be alarmed and reinstall as it was.

@@elguero2296 ill turn my air pressure down to 10 psi or so. Make sure both sides of the cooler lines are disconnected. Introduce air to one line so the fluid and debris will come out the other side. You can swap the hoses too to get the same effect. But the cooler might be clogged on that case.

I have a 2001 tahoe with a remanu trans installed about 5 years ago. Now when i accelerate from a stop, I get a slight slip going from 2nd to 3rd at about 28mph. If I accelerate slowly you almost don't feel it. Other than that it works perfectly. I baby it for the 2-3shift so can hopefully get many more miles out of it. I watch the tach and I can see it go up like 300-400 rpm then drop when 3rd kicks in. Do you think its a solenoid problem or something else?

Not all of the models have the spacer. So if you removed yours and a spacer did not come out. Leave it alone and reinstall it as you removed it.

Hi Scotty. I was coming home from work today driving my 03 HummerH2 & while going to down the road felt a hard jerk & transmission down shifted. I pulled over & put in park. Got out & looked under vehicle for fluid or anything outta the ordinary. All looked good. Started vehicle back up, put in reverse went into reverse fine, shifted to D nothing, then 3rd nothing, so I shifted to 1st moved just fine, 2nd just fine, but no 3rd or drive. Luckily I wasn't far from home so drove home in 2nd. Does that sound like the shift solenoids?

Can't guarantee anything but if I was looking at that transmission I would start by looking at the accumulators.

In your video you say both wires of the shift solenoid plugs should show continuity. That being the red and green of solenoid A and red and orange on solenoid B in a 2004. I'd did that and only the red Gaver me continuity. My question is if it's a DC current why would they both have negative continuity?

@@tommywilhite1781 Yes it shifts good into every other gear up and down and no slippage ever. So I should ignore the "Shift Solenoid A Stuck Open" code. P5402 I believe it is? I bought the new solenoid and I will purchase the corvette servo kit with the longer pin. I read on Blazerforum of a guy with our exact same problem and he changed the tranny at still had no 2nd gear. He gave the new tranny to a friend and it worked perfect in his s10. So I’m confused on my transmission so are the people at AAmco transmission sometimes shifts 100% but I believe 2nd to 3rd wind the tack up a bit before it shifts does not do it all the time after that drive all day at 80 or 90 miles an hour no problem so I don’t know what’s wrong. Neither does anybody else aAmco just wants to sell me a transmission. Any thoughts on this I would appreciate.

Hey I have a 2005 GMC Sierra the problem that I'm having is I'm in driving it stop pulling I pulled over set it off crank it back up and pull off it went from first to second then it stopped pulling again got it home got it home and it won't go in drive or reverse Crank it up the next day it went in reverse it went in drive what do you think it could be the shift solenoid

I would not use brake clean to clean the transmission parts.I would not want to take the chance of contaminating the new fluid.I personally put new ATF in a spray bottle and spray it on the valve body or transmission. I use a dustless cloth towel to wipe up all of the residual on the pin and the open surface of the transmission.

Got a code for shift solenoid B I went through swapped solenoid made sure the proper fluid level was in it cleared codes left battery unhooked so everything would reset. Took it for a ride same thing. Some said possibly ignition switch/wiring for it swapped that still the same thing. Any ideas? Sunshell? Something mechanically wrong?

Did you check the wiring harness while you are in there? And did you check the shift valves in the valve body?

I did check the harness i couldn’t find anything. I just brought it to my buddies shop last week to see what he thinks. And no did not check the shift valves. He seems to think it’s something electrical when I hear back I will give an update for anyone that’s having the same issue.

Can you please go over, again, and in more detail, how to use a "power probe", to test the wiring harness pin connectors to the shift solenoids, - at the 4:56 min. mark. I don't understand why you would "have ground on both sides, of each connector", ie, all 4 pins. Wouldn't one of them, on each side, be positive, and not negative? Instead of a "power probe", couldn't you just use a multimeter set to the continuity mode, to test these 4 pins? Thanks.

If you do not have a break in your wiring harness and your harness is plugged in to the external plug you should have some type of continuity at the solenoid connections. If you have no continuity that would mean a broken circuit. If you have some type of continuity that means the computer can control those solenoids.

If you want to test the solenoids you can test those by checking the ohms of resistance across the two pins.

I got a S10 98 Chevy blazer it throwing 753 code shift 1/2 I changed them both it shifts great but it keep throwing the same code if went threw all wiring only thing I'm finding is tcc is only showing 10 om's it shows to be u on transmission plug just not sure witch one it is of the tcc solenoid it is but shouldn't it throw different code if it iv had pan off like 5 times now checking wires and solenoid's thank in advance all help would be appreciated

You could try those parts. If you have over 90k, probably the 3rd and 4th are probably worn out. Its common for the 3rd gear check ball to go bad in the case and leak. I have a 2004 Envoy LT and I just had the transmission rebuilt about 7 to 8 years ago went to Florida last week car ran fine went to go visit our son in Daytona and the transmission was going at the first second and third with no problem and then when it went to Overdrive it would just slip it wouldn't even grab so I had to put the car back into third to drive it what would be causing that problem thank you

Got a 1997 Gmc jimmy 107,000 miles shifts perfect but when you are driving in randomly drops out of overdrive I did the whole tap the brake pedal the TCC does its thing but it will randomly fall out of over drive then shift back into overdrive. Someone has put a cold Air intake on it I thought maybe maf sensor could be tricking the computer checked all the fuses when it's in overdrive it doesn't slip it runs great just falls out of overdrive to 3rd then give it throttle shifts back to overdrive fluid is new and Clean I traded for the vehicle so but it's low mileage some help greatly appreciated

I have a 1999 s10 Chevy blazer 4 wheel drive. Is the same 4l60e transmission that you’re working on in the video the same as in the blazer? And I didn’t see a link to where I could order both of these shift silinoides. What’s happening is when I put it in drive it doesn’t move till I give it gas then it will catch and start moving. I haven’t noticed anything else happening as of yet but could this be the solenoids doing this. Thanks. Being on a fixed income I’m not able too spend thousands of dollars like these guys around here are wanting to rebuild it and they say the transmission is shot but I know a enough about Machanicing to know it’s not shot. When changing out these shift solenoids and the tcc solenoids, do you have to get them programmed at all or are they just plug and play? As long as im buying the genuine parts. And also, when installing the new solenoids should i dip them in new atf fluid before putting them back into their slots to try to get fluid back into those crevasis, and to also kinda lube the screens and o rings associated?

would this solenoid affect downshifting? My 2000 Ranger after sitting for 6 months of no use started not shifting to the passing gear. Regular up and downshifting is smooth but when i put the pedal to the metal the tranny will not shift to the passing gear. The trans fluid is clear and clean. I've never changed the filter. Is there an additive I could put in to help flush deposits prior to changing the filter and fluid? Tx much

oh ya I used a snap on brick scanner to check if shifting it show it is shifts to 4 gear lock up and if u go under and turn on shift solenoid with scanner u can hear them click but not the tcc one not sure witch one scanner turning on but shouldn't you hear it click to thank again rick

@brianwillson3693 4 minutes ago My 1997 GMC 1500 truck with a 5.7 liter vortec engine with a 4l60e transmission.My trans was rebuilt 12 years ago & a trans go shift kit with corvette servo.Note my filter & fluid has not been changed since.Last week while driving my truck just felt like it went in neutral.I managed to pull in a gas station & added a quart of tranny fluid.I about a 1 mile managed to drive home but my rpm's were kinda high ,but made it to my apartment .Now when starting when I put it in gear when I give it gas it tries to go forward and backwards.do you think a change of fluid and filter will help? The tranny has not made any noises,but found tranny fluid under truck leaks under truck in the last couple of weeks.Any advice you could give would be appreciated.
