Great video ! Nice attention to details.Most so called roofers leave a mess and expect you to clean up! Everyone wants to lay shingles not many like messing with the deck or wood , they might get dirty.

I'm a DIY-er myself, recently gone pro... I build sheds, decks, and small houses on the occasion... it is a lot to know, but once you begin in phases/steps, it's not so bad after-all... I learned about a few new ideas as they used double-seal system... but overall, everything is a crash-course/review of Construction Tech school lol...

As stated above we are providing services in the south florida area. With this being said those 6" strips are encouraged by the insurance industry to prevent water from seeping in between the seams of the plywood in case the roof is removed during storms. This is offered to all our clients so they may benefit from the discounts offered by the insurance companies.
@qmax2286
@qmax2286 11 жыл бұрын
That's why you check local forescast before you open a roof, plywood needs to breath in case of water penetration this system will cause mold and will damage wood decking. Gaps between plywood allow water to get out and dry area while proper repair is done. As stated water staying for longer time between deck and shingles will not benefit homeowner will benefit only you as a contractor because real issues will be noticed probably after warranty expire.

I have a small buckle along the top of a plywood sheet between the joists so there is nothing to screw it to to push it down. There isn't any water damage yet so I hate to have to replace the decking there. What kind of mending bracket or something else can I use to join it to the above board so it lays smooth. ??

I had to watch this video twice. Once just to watch it and the second time to see what all the comments were about. There are dozens of ways to tear off a roof, this video shows this company doing it their way. Ice and Water shield may not be required in the area of the country that they are in. Northern Roofers must have ice and water shield installed 24 inches into the heated wall. The strips on the plywood I don't understand but insurance companies lowering rates for doing something like that, why not then for your homeowner. I can see the reasoning during a hurricane and the roof gets blown off how that could help to prevent extensive damage to the inside. Our company is all about safety even on the 4/12 roof pitch. The newest rule is anything over 6 ft. from the ground. However, if you look at the date of this video it was shot before that became law. I loved the days that you didn't have to wear them on a walkable roof. Now, the homeowners have to pay for unnecessary labor.

What is the name/brand of the product used to tape the seams? This is the only video I have seen where the decking seams are taped. I really like the look of that -- its almost like the waterproofing you'd do on a shower. Someone else mentioned heavier felt is all that's required, but it appears to me that this joint tape is exactly what you want. Note: I am not a roofer, just a guy learning from videos.

@lornaswick7219
@lornaswick7219 4 жыл бұрын
I live in Indiana. I just had new gutters installed with leaf filters. The roof I have on my home is supposed to be only 6 years old. I have experienced some minor leaking. In order for someone to tear off old roof. And replace, I would be afraid for roofing installer to remove gutters/guards. In case it would cancel the warranty on guttering and guards.

Mostly of roofing co. Use subcontractos, the company consist only in one salesman getting jobs,mostly doesn't even have a crew that works for them, those crews are independent and work for others companies . Companies will charge around $275 sq. Labor material for a 25 yrs Reroof And around $300 for 30 yrs. Crews will get between 45 to 55 sq. For labor if they are subcontractor and 25 to 40 if they are sub-subcontractors Company owner if they work by themselves will make around $100.00 sq just for getting the job

qmax1969 our crew used to get 75$ until this mexican crew from pompano beach showed up. Now is $60. We have to work like dogs everyday to meet quota. Home depot also delivers all shingles before tear off. More work moving those suckers around. I honestly think roofing should not be subcontract because it puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the workers. I am working for another company now.

I was lucky enough to have gotten a job with a contractor who has an all women team. We just completed demolition in the roof of a home that was in real bad shape, we put the beams on yesterday and replaced the damaged insulation. It's funny to see the difference as women, we are always asking one another, if we need anything and passing items back and forth, two of us always have snacks handy and one girl make lunch daily for all the team and I see that the men are more independent.
