This is just a quick video on how to replace steering arm ends on Gemini catamarans and outboards..
Most steering arm ends are very similar, so you can use these techniques on almost all of them. This repair was on Gemini catamaran but the part and techniques are the same on most wheel steered outboards.

Do you happen to know the part number of the tiller arm itself or similar replacement for Gemini. Mine broke and I just purchased one on-line that looked correct but was 1/2 inch too long at its shortest. Thanks. KW

Sorry, it was a friend's boat and it has been sold. I didn't get time to learn part numbers. The is a HUGE cult following fir the Gems and an owners group. I am certain that you can get part numbers there.

How do you adjust the rudders so they both line up

I did it by eye with an ever so slight toe in, but only very slight. From the wake, it worked great. One could measure from the hull to the arms but this would require that the rudders be perfectly centered at construction and I doubt that this is the case. Go by eye standing at the very back of the step and sighting forward looking at each steering arm to see it pointing straight forward and the the same in the other side. I went back and forth 15-20 times before it was perfect.

I don't recall and the owner sold it. It was the "regular" long sail drive that was on most of them.

So why not put marine grease on it to protect it a little better

You can but it has been there for 20 years without any and it is doing great.

For other readers who are doing repair like this for the first time our member David brings up a very good point - stainless steel will bind and damage itself (gaul) if you tighten it without grease. In our video the repair the end fitting was still loose so required no grease, but when in doubt always use grease.
