Just finished doing this job using your videos (along with AHC's) and just wanted to say THANK YOU for making this series. I also did it on jack stands and for those wondering how to get the subframe passed the jack stand, just use another small jack (I used a scissor jack) on the oil pan. Took a while to start up, but no issues whatsoever. Car shifts like absolute butter. Make sure to do it right yall; Hondabond, Honda Super High Temp Grease, OEM throwout bearing, and change rear main seals while you're in there. Best of luck!

I admire your ingenuity and willingness to get it done yourself. You also confirmed my decision to spend more money than I have to get it done by people who have the tools and the shop.

Thanks man! Pt2 is dropping tomorrow! I'm really enjoying the process so far, but ya it is alot of work haha. I'm replacing a few other things while I've got it all torn apart so it's taking a little extra time. Good luck with your project and let us know how it goes!

You only need that special tool if you are using a old pressure plate that has adjusted its self. the new one is redy ro install.
@HondaSolutions3 жыл бұрын
The pressure plate is not set from LUK. You have to set it to completely “out” or you will have issues.

Oh no! Not the self adjusting clutch! Almost four years later, how is it holding up?

@@MtGarage That's good to hear, I'm looking at maybe buying an '03 Accord V6 coupe that needs a clutch. So while pricing the parts, I ran across some info about the self adjusting clutch failing. They make a non adjusting one that I would put in it if I decide to go through with the deal. I really appreciate you making that video, you have the only one that remotely addresses the undertaking of this issue. the only other one I found deals with the four cylinder model. I had to do a clutch in my first gen Hyundai Accent and had to do kinda the same removal process. When I got to the part where I had to support the engine, I used some steel pipe I found laying around. It worked quite well and didn't scratch the finish. Something to keep in mind if you find yourself doing another one of those jobs. Thanks again man and have a great day.
@MtGarage2 жыл бұрын
I hope that V6 Accord works out for you, those are cool cars. It's a lot of work to replace the clutch but if you've done a similar job before it should be no problem for you. Best of luck!

Nice video, some pointers for you. When trying to brake a ball joint stud or tie rod stud loose crack the knuckle with a hammer couple times, almost always breaks em loose. Also invest in a good air hammer and an acetylene torch. In the rust belt we need those 2 tools more than anything. You can buy a small torch kit with the tanks for 400$. Air hammer 170$. Well worth it if you are a diy.
@MtGarage5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice. I actually did try hitting the knuckle with a hammer but this one happened to be too corroded in!
@lancemartin92215 жыл бұрын
@@MtGarage ahh gotchya. It really is unreal what rust can do. We have a shop here in wisconsin, its amazing how rust can seize a metal line into a plastic fitting. But thanks for the video, someone called about putting a clutch in his acura tl and wanted to see how much of a pain it was.
@thronewalker11533 жыл бұрын
You just have to use a ball joint remover tool. They work the best. I tried heat. I tried hammers. Nothing seemed to work but the ball joint tool. I live in the rust belt.

Hey I’m just seeing this video and I was wondering if you have had any issues with that clutch kit and flywheel without the special tool for the pressure plate to adjust it since you installed the clutch ?

Hello, i just started this job today but i got stuck when i had to remove the steering joint from the pinion shaft. I removed the bolt but for some reason the joint seems to be stuck. Theres play so i dont think its rusted or tight but it doesnt move past like 5mm, does anyone know why this might be?

I am assuming this is almost the exact procedure as my Honda Accord 6 Speed coupe? Since they're almost identical. It looks like all the components on the motor are in the exact same place and the only thing that is different is one says Honda and one says Acura. And your displacement a little bigger
@MtGarage4 жыл бұрын
I believe for the similar year/generation it should be pretty much identical for the Accord 6MT. They're both J series motors and the same trans

I just replaced my axles and I made up this technique (I haven't seen youtube videos or fourms that mention this), but I'm not sure if its bad for the parts or not :P But basically what I did was leave the strut fork bolt in. Then I would take off the lower ball joint castle nut and with a floor jack apply upwards pressure on the brake rotor. After compressing the strut maybe 2-4 inches I just tapped the lower control arm with a hammer and the lower ball joint popped right out.
@MtGarage5 жыл бұрын
I'm sure that would work, I've actually used that technique in the past. In this case the ball joint was waaay too seized for that to work
@thronewalker11533 жыл бұрын
The ball joint tool is the easiest way.

04 Acura 6MT, noticed the clutch starting to slip under hard accel or trying to be stupid and wear out my tires. Just hit 175k Miles. I believe it’s original. Did timing belt at 158k, way later than recommended, but got the car at 139k and dealer said there’s no record of the tbelt being done. Got the OE Aisin kit and W.P. So far so good. Now for the clutch. Then some Bisimoto cams.

Yes you can leave the clutch hydraulic system fully connected, you're just removing the few bolts that hold the slave to the trans then move it out of the way. You may want to hold it back with a bungee strap or string so it's not in the way when dropping the transmission

I know a shop that will do it for $500 labor. Cost you $450 for clutch disc pressure plate and flywheel. So $1000 total.
