I know this an old video but thank you so much I was missing the spring and I couldn’t figure out what was part was missing on my mower. It’s a different brand but yours looks exactly like what I have this was so helpful!

Man you are a life saver! I can't thank you enough for this video! Real quick though, removing the axle is quick and easy and making putting the belt on a million times easier. It's literally just bolted into the axle itself.

How do you do that?

Good how-to. No frills. No loud background music. Thank you. Your Swisher belt is located more like in my Cub Cadet ST100. My Swisher belt is on top--much easier to access. Thank goodness. And thank you again.

Of course, if you follow his video to the "T", I can pretty much guarantee that your machine will NOT last very long. Only a genetically enhanced moron would turn the machine completely upside down and allow all the sludge in the lower case to run up into the valve guides/seals and the lower cylinder and piston wrist pin... jus sayin

Thank you for the video! I was able to fix the trimmer we have at work following your instructions. Man, that belt was a pain! I ended up using a cheater bar and socket on the crank to pop it on. Super easy that way.

I have the same machine and this video helped me replace my belt. Thank You. The thing is, my old belt looks like it don't have any issues. The new belt however is to thick and I can't find the actual 1 that goes on it(1112).. any ideas on how to find 1 and where.

Know its been a while since you posted this, great content. Questions hope you can help, did you drain the gas and oil before turning it on the side? Was told that oil could ge into the carburetor through the vent on the carb. And the gas would also dump and flood it out.

Very helpful, thanks. Any chance yall have a video on fixing the spindle? Mine came off but cant see what broke to keep it on. I fixed the belt but not enough tension to keep the spindle in place. Thanks.
@orbtrans2 жыл бұрын
The spindle is not held in place by the belt. It has 2 bolts with wing-nuts that hold it tight. That's how you get the height adjustment.

Thanks so much for your time in sharing. Just picked up one of these and was wondering what the best line to use in it. You mentioned in the video you buy and cut your own. Can you share a link to what you buy? Would gladly appreciate it! Also do you know if there is an attachments for this unit like a saw blade. did not think so for the price point this unit is sold. Also how long have you been running yours? It looks like its made a few seasons with you?

Hi Matt, Thanks! We originally made this video for ourselves and it's cool that it has been useful for other people. We had actually only been using this trimmer for a year when this footage was taken, but we work this trimmer very hard (thoroughly abusing it, as you can see from the wear) and probably logged a lot of hours in that time frame. It still runs like new. Be sure to clean the air filter frequently, and put a big piece of tape over the oil dipstick cap. It is possible for large blackberry plants to grasp the cap and complete the quarter turn to completely remove it from the running trimmer as you pull it away. I had to learn that lesson twice before we put the tape over it. We've been using Grass Gator 3.9 mm twisted trimmer line. I think this is it: www.amazon.com/Grass-Gator-Z9155P-3-Pound-Twisted/dp/B005KQUAHM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1465736934&sr=8-3&keywords=grass+gator+twisted+trimmer+line We cut it to the same length as the thicker orange line that comes with the trimmer, and use two pieces on each side. It will hold up for a long time in grass. I do use it to cut through very thick brush but it has to be replaced frequently when I do that. I don't think that there are any attachments for this trimmer. The beauty of using trimmer string instead of blades is that it prevents the engine from getting bogged down in the thick grass and brush that has been known to kill riding lawn mowers at our place. Because of that design I don't think the engine would be strong enough to use anything other than string. I trim around saplings and anything else too thick and then do a walk-over with loppers.

@@Duckifyable I just use the original replacement line that comes with a Craftsman. Both of these units are made by MTD. The line is available at Lowes. I just bought a couple packs. 8.79 a pack BUT they last a lot longer than doubling the twisted line. I had to do that in a pinch, so I have used both ways.

I unboted the round ball skid in the front a d removed the trimmer thing and then put the belt on lubricates all the parts as well changed the spark plugs but can't find the fuel filter to change it

These units have no fuel filter
@dac3744 жыл бұрын
It's at the end of the fuel line entering the fuel tank. Might have slipped inside the fuel tank. It's a long thin piece of plastic. Try looking inside the fuel tank.

@dac3744 жыл бұрын
It's at the end of the fuel line going into the fuel tank. Might have slipped into the fuel tank. Took me about a week to find mine. It's a long thin slotted piece of plastic.

Started off OK but the rear axle got in the way so had to remove the wheel & axle to get the belt on. Got that part all put together again but there is NO WAY to get the belt onto the front. How do I remove the spindle? Tried every which way and no go. The belt is the perfect length making it too short to pull over the spindle.
@dac3744 жыл бұрын
It's connected by the bolt at the center of the top of the deck of the mower.

How do you replace rotor cover (down below)
@deirdre44411 күн бұрын
I know this is late in coming, like 8 years too late, but I need to tell you from experience that when your dome (the part that makes contact with the ground during use) is in that kind of condition, it will sheer off soon and your inner spindle parts will be exposed to dirt and small rocks and it will destroy your spindle, necessitating an expensive replacement. You can order the dome by itself for not too much money compared to the hideously high cost of a new spindle.

Your belt looked pretty tight without having the belt engagement handle pulled back. Does the trimmer head stop turning with the belt engagement handle released or does it constantly spin when the engine runs not allowing you to turn it off?

It's been six years. Have you cleaned it yet? Just kidding! Great video! Leave that plastic piece of crap cover off. You can add 3 to 6 extra inches to your cut string for an extra wide cutting path. It's worthless anyway.

Where is the fuel filter I can't find it
@mrscary37213 жыл бұрын
It's inside the fuel tank. You get to it by removing the fuel line that comes out of the bottom of the fuel tank. The filter is inside the nipple the hose attaches to.

Doesn't the oil spill out when you turn the mower upside down? I ca see that on its side, the oil spout is on the top. so no problem. Did you drain the oil first?
@Duckifyable6 жыл бұрын
It's been a while but if I'm remembering correctly it did spill a bit, yes. Draining it first would have been a smart move, but it's not an easy reservoir to drain.

Please....don't work on any of my machines. Turning a small engine upside down is the perfect action to take to run sludge in the lower casing up into the cylinder, head and piston pin. Golly, even your knowledge of the parts is appalling. That metal is a belt deflector/retainer. The pin is the belt pin deflector, the pulley is an idler pulley and the spring is a tensioner spring....please stop working on anything more complex than legos
