This machine was actually painted at my workshop. We contacted the owners after the machine was blasted about the blade. they were happy for us to go ahead with the paint job and they would sort the blade out afterwards. I knew it was only a matter of time before a machine we painted ended up on your channel 👍 Love your work.

First thing I do when I get a new vehicle, is buy two pair of stainless bolts and replace the license plate bolts. Antiseize on the threads, of course. Here in New England you see a lot of vehicles with rust streaks down the license plates form the salt we use on our roads in the winter. I have had some real issues with rusted license plate bolts on used vehicles. Anti-seize and stainless hardware is your friend up here.

@@CuttingEdgeEngineering It's a painter that just doesn't give a flying Frag about their Employer's Customers or one that doesn't know enough about the equipment to know that those voids are actually A VERY FRIGGING BAD THING... They're paid to paint shit, not do the Quality Control Inspection that the Maintenance Shop was supposed to do before sending the Bugger out to be Painted... Personally, I hope the Customer has a few unpleasant words with their Maintenance Supervisor (accompanied with MULTIPLE smacks 3 inches below the belt with a sledgehammer*) about just how exactly that blade made it through the last Inspection prior to being sent out for Paint... * Shooting them there with an overpowered .68 caliber Paintball Pistol loaded with steel balls works too... 😄😁😆😅😂🤣

Just as likely it is painted by monkeys whose job is simply to paint the machinery and don't even know the difference between Good and Bad. After all to a superficial eye, the front of the blade looks pretty reasonable.

Nailed it. Guys like him are indispensable, and worth every penny. Helping the owners make the call on a new blade saved them downtime and repair costs, while losing kurtis billable hours to keep the customer's best interest first. Kurtis, you're adorable. I always recognized you do repairs, tighten screws and stuff the way as you yourself have to unscrew it the next time or the guy that does it, has as minimum trouble as possible. That's not common in our world, but I'm riding on the same train as you, Kurtis. That honest and idealistic task made me the proud follower of you that I am. Tom 😎

Nice work Kurtis. Work like this is rewarding as it shows the customer has listened, better than rebuilding scrap. You may want to consider a hollow ram jack when the next pin gets lippy. I used to hire a 60 ton hollow ram and never had a pin argue with that. Once on rear boom pin on a JCB telehandler I welded a piece of 32mm threaded bar to the end of a pin and the hollow ram pulled the nut off the threaded bar, reset and use 2 nuts this time, it came out then, stretched the threaded bar so I had to cut nuts off, but the pin came out. 😁 Another time on a headstock pin on a Manitou telehandler, it pulled the threaded bar off the pin and flew across the workshop and took the hand pump out my hand, oops, reset, better weld this time, it came out then, and was able to reuse the pin.

yeah nice one mate! I've got a 150T porta power but didn't have a pull rod for this, probably would've been my next option before having to lance out the pin

Can we just stop for a moment and reflect upon just how Space Age the cabin of a grader has become! I can recall looking in the cabs of older graders and just seeing a plain bench seat, some levers and a large steering wheel. If it was too hot in the cab then you just opened a window, no fancy "Climate Control" in the old machine. Mark from Melbourne Australia

Ours is an old school grader. Apart from the lights and the (optional) electric starter, I'm struggling to think of anything electrical on the machine. New or old grader doesn't matter though -- I can't run one for $#!+.

@@dfross87 You would probably still be better than me as I have never run one. Which unit would you prefer? Old school hydraulic control or New school electronic and GPS control over hydraulic? Just interested in an operator point of view? Mark from Melbourne Australia

Add to that Mark, now with GPS controls, operators do not even need skill. Semi sad.
@dfross87
@dfross87 Жыл бұрын
@@markfryer9880 I'm no sort of grader operator, so don't ask my advice! All I can do reliably is move it from A to B with the blade lifted well clear of the dirt! In general, I prefer the old school hydraulics because they usually give a finer control over the valve than electronic. That said I will definitely agree GPS mapping & control systems have their advantages over muggins here 🤫.

@@donaldpeck8519 Whoever runs our old grader definitely needs skill. No fancy GPS on that -- just have to judge what adjustments to make to the controls to get the best result. It's amazing to watch.

Your attention to detail keeps me coming back to these videos. Here, you use the fork carriage shifter to move the blade into place, you put anti-seize on all the bolts, you kept the shim packs for each side just the way they came off, you have a cool extension for that open end wrench. It is a joy to watch you work my friend.
