Hi Guys!
Today is a little something different. My blower motor went out on my 2008 Nissan Sentra. Everywhere I looked online and on KZbin said I had to remove the dashboard to get to the blower motor to replace it. Estimated time is around 5 hours to complete the job.
Luckily I ran across a forum where someone said you could do it thru the drivers side in half the time. Needless to say, I was game for that. Here is the link to the forum: www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discuss...
It is the 10th answer on the list.
Anyway, I wasn't going to record this today, but after disconnecting the battery, I thought why not? (sorry for the poor audio) So far there hasn't been a video covering this way of doing it, and the ones showing how to remove the dash, don't actually show anything. They just talk about it pointing at a tore up mess.
All total in parts it cost under $200 for a lifetime guaranteed blower motor and resistor from AutoZone. That's a far cry from the $1,200 I heard the dealer charges to replace the blower. Total time to do the job was 2 hours 15 minutes.
Anyway I hope everyone likes it. This isn't a 3D printing video, but sometimes I like to show the things that are keeping me from printing. Last week it was a water pump on my 2002 Dodge Caravan. Luckily I didn't record that mess. LOL!!!
Recently I have been asked if someone wanted to toss something my way, how can they do it?
please know it's never required. Simply giving the video a thumbs up and a nice comment is always appreciated.
But if you refuse to take no as an answer, you can always toss me a dollar or two via PayPal using my email address jimmyshawstidbits@gmail.com , or become a patron on Patreon.

Great video! Thanks for saving me about $400. One thing to add: when removing the old blower motor, flip it and put the fan end over the brake booster rod. Frees up space to flip it right through the open space. Put in new one the same way.

Awesome video! Your method worked great on my 2009 Sentra. I really appreciate the "tool list" and the tip about working while laying on a stack of pallets beside the car- that really saved my back. Thanks for posting this- I was pretty intimidated by the videos where ppl removed the dash. It took me about the same time to complete the job as it took you.

Thanks for this easier method. Other people saying you need to remove the dash are totally out of their minds. Only problem I had was twisting the blower back into the hole. Had to take it out and apply vaseline to the "threads", then it went in pretty easy. God though I wish I wasn't 6'3"..... Awkward AF!!

Holy crap. I just wrapped up replacing the blower and resistor, hooked up the battery and fired her up. Everything working fine without any problems. I feel like I am now a part of a secret club of extraordinary humans that were able to pull off this amazing feat. Not a task for a novice, by any stretch. Nissan should send you a patch, or a plaque, or maybe a coupon for a free ice cream cone. A big thank you for making this video, Jimmy. Now I'm going to get to working on that nuclear sub I've been wanting to build. Should be pretty easy.

I used this as my guide while replacing my own this afternoon. Everything went as shown in the video. Thanks for the help! TIP: When removing the part seen at 4:00, rather than gripping with vice grips, I found it was easier to remove by placing the pin back through the holes, gripping the pin with pliers and twisting. There isnt a lot of room down there there and i had trouble removing it using the method shown in the video.

Jimmy, thank you Sir for this video! I can confirm that this procedure works on the NIssan Sentra 2010 model. I bought the parts from Autozone last night, studied the video, and performed the procedures this morning step by step. It took me about around 3 1/2 hours but I finished and everything works perfect again. Thank you so much for the instructions and thank you for saving me ~$1200 worth of repairs!

Just changed blower motor and resistor in my son's 2007 Nissan Sentra. Followed video step by step and got it done. As other's mentioned in this thread, the black box(mentioned at 3 mins into video) can be pushed up and out of the way so you do not have to remove it entirely to get blower motor out. Thank you for the video! I was dreading the thought of tearing out the entire dashboard as shown in other videos!

My blower went on my 2009 SR in a week. It was actually vibrating the whole dash and steering wheel so bad I didnt even drive the car! I watched you video first before attempting mine. I think I spent more time fighting the wiring and hood latch cable. I am a body man by trade so I have a different set of tools at my disposal, and knowledge of the car. making it easier. 1. Thank you 4 the vid - couldn’t have done it without it. 2. Death to the engineer that put the blower motor in this location!. 3. I put a pallet on milk crates beside the drivers side door / but had to jack the car up a few inches to get it in tight beside the car. Other option is to remove the drivers side seat so you can lay upside down under the dash for 2 hours. 4. A good sized mechanics mirror is very helpful to have (mine is on an extendable rod) to see into places your head won’t fit. 5. I had a plastic trim piece to the right of the gas peddle that had to be removed first - two connectors towards the rear of the car just “pop out” with a bit of force. 6. Use a pair of needle nose to compress the little white nylon cap on the pin in the u-shaped bracket the brake peddle attaches to - then it just slides back into the bracket part way and the brake peddle assembly can be removed (don’t drive it out with a big whack like the guy in the other video). 7. Ref the black box with the big wire bundles and 3 connectors on the back. It has a metal bracket on the back that you can very easily pry off with a flat head screw driver allowing you to push the box up and out of the way against the firewall - then you don’t need to unplug all the wires, which some viewers have indicated might cause bad electrical mojo later on. 8. I had to remove the u-bracket the brake pedal attaches to - do it exactly as he does in the video with vice grips positioned the same exact way...it works. 9. For gods sake don’t drop anything little when you’re working up in/near the blower motor itself!

Thank you for posting this video. I can't emphasize how much it helps being able to know I need to remove X, Y, and Z in this order versus trying to figure it out myself. In my case the blower motor was going out intermittently and finally failed completely. I swapped the Blower Motor Resistor first and that didn't help. I looked over the wiring diagram and wanted to test the blower motor in the car so I removed the Front Air Control (the dials) and removed the Blower Motor Resistor and used a jumper wire to connect the red wire at the Blower Motor Resistor connector to ground, which will cause the blower motor to fire up as long as key is on. In my case, it did fire up, but it did end up being bad and I had to replace the blower motor. When I had it out of the car I did some testing and found that most of the time the blower motor would work but depending on where the motor landed when it stopped, certain spots were dead. I could manually rotate the blower wheel slightly and cause it to start working again. I took the black box out instead of trying to move it out of the way. The connectors come out pretty easy if you (gently) use a flat blade screwdriver on the connector while depressing the release tabs. Also when removing the brake pedal U shaped piece with the 17mm nut, mine moved a bit and I had to adjust it. You'll know if it's off since the brake lights will be on all the time. Finally, my air bag light was on at the end of this job (I did disconnect the battery). I had to go through the Nissan air bag light reset procedure (pretty simple, KZbin has a couple videos on it) and that took care of it.

I would have finished in less time but I lost the screw to the black box and lost 30 minutes looking for it. It was swallowed by a black hole I'm sure of it. Thank you sir, the blower motor took me a minute to seat it correctly. But thank you. Guys good luck, be patient guys is a very uncomfortable spot, that's why big kudo's to Mr. Jimmy.

Bought another, same thing. Ended up filing down the first 2 small ridges that actually lock it in. Also shaved off the locking small curved piece just to right of screw hole. Motor then would twist in. Had an after market motor, wonder if original equipment would be the way to go. Thanks again, really appreciate guys like you!

Thanks for this video and the tip about the lying down on 2 pallets. I installed the blower motor and resistor on my 2008 Nissan Senta. Removing the old blower motor was super frustrating, but I got it done.

Thanks for uploading this helpful video. I found lots of leaves in mine. Do you know where the air intake is so I can add some type of filter?

OK i want to add to this video ,,I just put a blower motor in a 2012 Nissan Sentra SR 2.0..And this video is right on the money BUT I did not take the black box completely off just unplugged 2 plugs cause i could not get the 3rd plug out lol..omg it is a JOB but,,it is doable and better than taking out the dash,,,,,and the dealer would have charged $1200.00 dollar and I spent $48.76 new 1 on ebay.........works great,,,,Hope this info helps other people...it was a back breaker lord have mercy.!! lol good luck

Big thanks for this video my mechanic knows I’ll pay whatever for my cars but this job cost me $32 for the motor and 40 for labor quick fix and $70 compared to the 100-200 charge

Thanks for the video. My motor is starting to die. And I thought changing the cabin filter required being a contortionist. Gotta love an HVAC designed for easy maintenance on a RH drive car, but not so much in its LH drive configuration.

How did you remove the final rod with the weird head? I am trying all different tools they don’t seem to work, the nut and the weird head with two holes seem to be jammed together. I have a 17mm wrench and pliers to hold the end with the holes but the head and nut just won’t turn separately

I watched this video more than 2 times and damn it was really confusing. then i went ahead and replaced the resistor since that was the first thing to do when your fan stops working. it started working again but the fan is so loud. like someone was caught in there. so i watched this video again and I'm finally getting it somehow! I just dont get that part where you took out the glove box? at 3:00 what were you trying to remove and which side?

I know this is an old video but I replaced the blower motor on my Sentra and after putting everything back, now my brakes are stuck on, do you know of a way to adjust the pedal or that little rod or something? Gotta floor the car to barely overcome the brakes

@Jimmy Shaw so I did this, but now that everything is reconnected. The car hesitates to accelerate, the brake lights stay on and the cruise control doesn't work. Any ideas?

Thanks for the video, I have a 2009 Nissan Sentra with a noisy blower motor and I wasn't looking forward to ripping out the dash to get at the blower. Although it was a little tight, I found the plug-in connectors on the black box and blower were more difficult to remove than the blower itself. altogether the removal and installation went quite smoothly. The blower I bought came with a built-in resistor and cost $290.00 including tax in Canada. It took me about two an a half hours to remove it and about 1 hour to reinstall it. Thanks for your help!

After putting it all back together my acceleration was a little rough and I realized my brake lights are permanently on. Do I need to adjust the brake pedal now? How much does that cost? (Great video btw)

If it’s really stuck in there I found using one of those 3 prong oil filter wrenches and a 3” extension with a ratchet will get the sucker loose
