Just for future reference. I was going to replace the FP in my 1991 s10 2.5l since it took forever to start. It turned out that the plastic connector for 2 wires under the drivers side floor mat were badly corroded. Fixed the wires and the truck started right up.

If not the pump issue , looks like you may of been close to a gas leak. A little pricey , but por15 works good to paint rusty tanks , but any thing at all will be good for that tank.
@TheShadeTreeFixitMan9 жыл бұрын
wtbm123 I will check into that, but isn't it a bit pricey? I am already in hock to the credit card company for the parts and that is not good. These kinds of repairs are never "in the budget".

When they are that rusty I cheat a bit. Leave the lines connected and use a small spot blaster to blast the rust off around the retaining ring. Then use a hammer and punch and go around the ring tapping it down to break the rust free. After that you can try to remove it. Once you get it out, and the new one in I like to spray the area with rusty metal primer and a heavy coat of paint over the entire tank, unless it's a newer one with a plastic tank.
@TheShadeTreeFixitMan9 жыл бұрын
***** This one was beyond "tapping" I am afraid. I hope this is my last one to do. Too many done already in the past. The paint is a good idea to protect it, or even some oil painted on works.

Hi Georgr. I bought a 93 S10 and it has a couple of probs. The gas gauge doesnt work. So going to replace the pump and sending unit assembly and hope that fixes it. the gauge moves sometimes but never is it close to telling the truth.But first, the drivers bucket seat back is broken. so have to fix that and swap the pass. seat for drivers. seat is just in better shape. then on to the pump. have the garage wired but no door yet. Hopefully by winter. hehehe
@TheShadeTreeFixitMan8 жыл бұрын
I sure do hope you get that door on before Winter, Joe. Sounds like you have a fun project ahead with the little S10. You have the right idea about replacing the pump at the same time as the sending unit, no sense in doing one without the other for the amount of effort it takes. I hope all goes well for you.

@thehowtostudios1980Ай бұрын
you cant just drop the tank?
@TheShadeTreeFixitManАй бұрын
Not on a truck from Minnesota and it's actually much easier to replace the pump through the top. No need to completely drain the tank, drop it, put the pump in then raise it back up again, when you can simply lift the bed and do all your repairs comfortably at waist height. Pickups are generally easier to do by lifting the bed. I did it on my Toyota pickup a number of years prior to this as well. Thanks for taking a look and the very timely question.
@thehowtostudios1980Ай бұрын
@@TheShadeTreeFixitMan so with the 93 s10 assuming it isnt a rusty mess you could just drop the tank? this one has been sitting for a few years so i will probably just dispose of the old fuel. im thinking its the fuel pump

Side tilt method offers many advantages. We have taken it one step further to invent a BedliftR tool that attaches to the frame and allows one person to easily and safely do fuel pump work on trucks with a side tilt method. You can watch video at www.tec-tools.com/home.html. It is shown on a lift, but the work can be done on the ground as well. We are just going out to market now, so if you ever were interested in getting a demo model to test out, contact us. Thanks.

@TheShadeTreeFixitMan7 жыл бұрын
Because it is easier to lift the bed than to drop the tank. With all the hoses and lines it is a real pain to drop these tanks, plus the strap bolts were pretty badly rusted. I live in Minnesota where rust is the state color and the favorite customizing trick... Only 6 bolts to remove to raise the bed and then everything is done standing up in place.
