I’ve just done mine today, no sunroof model. An awkward job to do but I’m happy with my results. I bought a yellow flowery duvet cover and used that. My beetle is yellow.

I love this! I did this years ago to my bug because I really wanted a purple headliner. It turned out pretty good but I had to buy a different fabric since the first one I bought wasn't stretchy enough and it made it too difficult to put on. I would have loved this video when I did it hehe, there was definitely a lot of troubleshooting involved. I agree it's fun and it makes your Beetle really personalized!

Thanks for this video! Purchased a moldy 06 Beetle TDI pretty cheap 6 months ago for a max mpg commuter car. After all the scrubbing the only thing left to do is the headliner. I had some idea where to start but now I'm more confident having watched!

Do you have any tips for getting the musty smell out? I just purchased a 99 beetle that has some water damage and a musty smell! I’ve scrubbed everything and cleaned the upholstery pretty good now I just have to replace the sagging headliner!
@chased4102 жыл бұрын
@@UntamedFireheart My only advice would be to remove as much of the interior as possible and scrub it with a distilled white vinegar and water mix or a bleach and water mix. I bought some drill brushes from amazon to aid in the scrubbing. I also removed the seats and carpet. My truck for cleaning the carpet when it's removed is taking it to your local self serve car wash, hang the carpet in the clips for floor mats and wash it with the pressure washer. Hope this helps!

Great video! Thanks for all the detail. I use cheap disposable gloves when I am doing something like this so I know they are clean and it's an easy fix if I get glue or dirt on my hands. I also put little plastic bags over connections that might get glue sprayed on the because I am a klutz, and I don't want to risk overspraying the glue into the electronics.

Sorry if this is a stupid question - but you are stretching the fabric a bit to get it into the lower areas, right? And that's ok? The fabric won't be nearly flat against some of those areas without pressing/stretching. (my first attempt failed - will be trying again with new fabric and better adhesive)
@AutoScholarwithMrB3 ай бұрын
@@grislee1 adhesive is very important, also a little stretch may be needed.

Perfect! I have to do the headliner in my New Beetle. Do you have any suggestions on where to purchase the headliner material?
@AutoScholarwithMrB2 жыл бұрын
I got this at Joanne’s or Hobby Lobby, I cannot remember which one, but the color will be different if you go this route, unless it’s black.

I just pulled off the fabric and painted the headliner fiberboard matte black.

Where could I get a headliner frame ( the part that you glue the material to) for a 2010 vw beetle?

Junkyard is probably going to be your best bet. Shipping would be really high and if you get one from a dealer it will have fabric on it already. Good luck and thanks for watching!

What were the dimensions for ur headliner
@gunsnsails2 жыл бұрын
Ok, I'm getting started on the headliner. (Been a VERY heavy detail on the interior just to make it safe.) I started removing the interior components on the headliner and found some difficulty with the rear lights. In the video you say to "pull down on one side and rock them out" but I'm seeing a metal plate that I assume should stay attached to the headliner. The light does not seem to want to dislodge from this plate. Have you seen that before? Or do I just need to drop my purse and put my man hands on?
@AutoScholarwithMrB2 жыл бұрын
They should just rock out with a flat head screwdriver. There is a metal clip that is attached to the light that has to be pressed in.

@sheradar6805 Жыл бұрын
did you have it done thru VW or an upholstery shop?
@davidschenburn3238 Жыл бұрын
It is too bad that VW continues to use foam backed fabrics for its cars. This is the same problem that the US built Rabbits had. It also occurs with foam speaker surrounds. The best solution is to use a different material.
@pervylady70722 жыл бұрын
Could you just take the foam off and clean the top instead of buying a new fabric?
@AutoScholarwithMrB2 жыл бұрын
Probably not, the foam keeps the glue from soaking through and the fabric shrinks over time.
@pervylady70722 жыл бұрын
Oh no I meant like just cleaning off the foam, glue and fabric off completely and just having the metal underneath. Like would that be possible or would it look like that orange layer always
