Spot on! DS4 bulb. Auto parts store sold be the wrong bulb. And I also pulled out the fog light thinking I had the headlight. This video was great at clarifying, especially how you push those clips back and release the bulb.

The MOST helpful video on this so far. I will throw a few things in for anyone else watching: For additional space (and you're going to want it when you get to the driver's side light): -Remove the 5 or so pop rivets holding the plastic shroud under the hood. It's very simple BUT be very gentle removing the rivet from their seats. The heads like to break on you if you don't have a narrow trim tool (I used the widest but skinniest flathead screwdriver I could find and still broke 2 of them). This itself buys you more room for rotating both ballasts as well as allows you to remove the battery tie-down bar. -Remove that battery tie-down (be careful not to lose the locking nut like I did) and move the battery away from the ballasts for even more room. These two things bought me lots of space. If you don't need to touch the driver's side light, I wouldn't recommend these extra steps though. I did the passenger side without it and it was decent enough space.

This video is perfect. For anyone trying to remove 2013 there is one additional step after releasing the spring clips to get the bulb bulb out. You practically have to stand on your head and look up under the lip of the housing just dead center above the bulb, there is a tiny #1 phillips screw holding yet another clip that covers the slot where the peg on the bulb slides out. I had to remove this clip to pull the bulb out then replace it after putting the bulb back in. Then follow all the rest of these steps from this video. You can begin to see the screw in this video starting at around 2:25 - 2:40 time stamp. I guess its a hit or miss if you need to remove that piece or not. According to this video it appears you don't have to remove it. On my 2013 I absolutley had to.

I have the 2013 Avalon LTD that I purchased used with 20k miles on it. I wasn't sure whether it had HID or Halogen Lows. The difference between your 2011 model in the video, and mine - seems to be only that the 2013 uses dual projectors - viewing from the front of the vehicle. But the unit evidently uses the same (#85967-08020) - ballast so I am "assuming" that although the externals may be different, both utilize only a single bulb per ballast. The is video is excellent - and the ONLY one that depicted the parts present in my car. Others seemed to be later built models using different parts - and an easier, simpler system to work on. Thank you for your help!

This was my GO-TO video on changing the D4S HID lights in my 2011 Avalon. You said you hoped it helped someone, and I'm here to say more than you could imagine. Just being able to see exactly what you did, and describing how much force you had to use (which is a lot) to get those covers off helped a lot. I had to replace both, and the driver's side is a lot worse with the battery in the way. Having to remove the cables and the bracket was a pain. If anyone comes here looking for lights I can highly recommend Diode Dynamics. They have an OEM replacement, I selected D4S 6000K for my color, they fit right in place and look better than the original ones which were flickering and going in and out. These are flicker free with a 3 year warranty, $80.00 for a pair. DD1049P is the model number.

Mike, Excellent video. Best by far on this particular subject. My question is about the Kelvin number. I have found that the 4300 is a white light. 6000 is a light blue. I'm guessing I should order the 4300 as it would be more "stock" for the car. Im afraid the blue tint might raise questions with the authorities. Any thoughts on this?
