Great DIY Eli. Power steering pumps are always fun on B5 A4 and S4.

I never worked on a car more than when I had my '01.5 B5 A4 1.8t with APR stage 3, FMIC, STaSIS TrackSports coilovers, Stoptechs brakes, etc. and it has made me a better DIY mechanic for the last 22 years. I recently finished a VCG job on our E92 with parts from FCPEURO. THANKFULLY my B8 S4 hasn't needed anything but gas and tires.

Take out entire drive train and replace every single seal and hose, then see the next thing that goes😋. I can already tell I'm going to enjoy this series

I was looking at a 1997 audi a4 the guy is asking £275 for it. All it needs is a new power steering pump, brake pads and a new starter do you think it's worth buying?

those allan key bolts are a PITA lmao id replace them when you next get the chance if they arent that rounded off due to age

That's seal underneath the tail seal is fun you'll enjoy that one FYI do not upgrade your carrier baron to any of these split carrier bearings unless you have the specific tool that I've wasted hundreds of dollars on almost a thousand on getting because you'll have horrible vibration between 40 and 55 mph like you're driving on rumble strips

Is the pump in the same location on a 2.8

The power steering fluid is under a lot of pressure. The small hose and clamps should of been replaced and not reused. I’ve had mine become loose over time. The power steering reservoir has a built in filter. The reservoir should of been replaced as well. Change it as soon as possible. Going through the service mode is so much quicker and makes the pump job easier. Besides that your content is great!

Please please please! Keep this Hibiscus B5 on the road and in good condition!!!
@bagelbandit6076 Жыл бұрын
Just learn to put it in service mode. It will make aspects of these types of jobs so much more easier.
@IgnitionTube Жыл бұрын
This was faster without service mode, but I look forward to learning that too!!

They always say a 5cent crush washer is gonna save you from hundreds of dollars to redo the mistake

Your old pump is probably fine, the return hose was just sucking in air
@IgnitionTube Жыл бұрын
Did you watch the video? Lol. The old pump is not fine 😅 look at the carnage when we pull it out
@sonicnofadz Жыл бұрын
@@IgnitionTube did not watch the video, but yeah if you (or previous owner) drove it with no fluid definitely nuked it

Will this car ever be reliable and trustworthy enough to drive coast to coast if u had to? No. No point spending all the energy and resources into it in my view.
@IgnitionTube Жыл бұрын
You’re missing the point of a project car lol. I have the SQ to go coast to coast tomorrow. The B5 is always going to have a problem to solve, that’s the fun of it
@mattsson265 Жыл бұрын
This is his project car. Money, sweat and tears are supposed to be spent on it. It's a hobby. There's a difference in having a daily car and a project car. Like he said, he has the SQ5 that is perfectly capable of doing anything.

B5 manifest destiny! Haha. My dad had a 2000 that had 24/30 valves bent when the timing chain tensioner went - he had rebuilt and got out... Man I miss that thing
