In my experience the passenger side rear is always the hardest to compress. I've done the job on a 2005 model and it was this way. Today I did the job on a 2010 S40 and it took me 30 minutes to push and turn it in. My friend says it may be because it's the longest line to the master cylinder. Thank you for this video, it helped me keep my confidence high! 🏎️

to anyone struggling to move the piston: in the beginning you need to both apply pushing force, and rotate the piston. managed to do it by pushing the piston in with pliers while using a screwdriver and hammer to tap on to one of the two holes in the piston surface. If the piston still doesnt seem to be moving, attach pliers on the piston and have someone check on it whilst someone else is pushing the brake pedal down _carefully_, just to move the piston around a bit. After about a full rotation the piston should move inwards by just rotating it with smaller pliers.

Excellent! Thank you for sharing. I am glad I saw your video before I went crazy taking EVERYTHING apart.

I can't seem to rotate the caliper backwards even though I've loosened the bottom bolt and removed the top bolt. Any idea why?

Very Helpful, thank you. May I ask what is that white substance placed on the back of the Brake Pad?
@PatFripp6 жыл бұрын
Hicham Issa it is a grease that is on the pads out of the box it is to help reduce the pad getting stuck in and reduce break sequel.
@huchhuchhuch20096 жыл бұрын
Thanks for explaining that. Is it the same as Anti Seize Lubricant?

Indeed.

Is the other side the same wind back direction? (Clockwise).
@PatFripp2 жыл бұрын
Yes it is.
@robadoba84972 жыл бұрын
@@PatFripp thanks, that's what I assumed. Unfortunately when I spend an hour last night with the proper clamp tool that has the twist feature I only got it to budge about a quarter inch rotation. And my caliper showed all the signs of heating. So pretty confident it's frozen, and that's why I failed early.

Thank you thank you thank you. I've just been trying to push the piston back in for an hour, would not move. It screws back in"THANK YOU",.

0:18 You are meant to undo top and bottom nuts and suspend the caliper out of the way with wire.... the new (good quality) pads come with 2 new nuts anyway... no need to remove the brake hose every time you change the pads/discs if you remove both nuts...
@amana14805 жыл бұрын
You are meant to replace both bolts for both slide pins... the new pads normally come with 2 new bolts, which have got threadlock on them...
@mountaincarjunkie33075 жыл бұрын
I've literally never ever heard of having to replace those sliding pins everytime unless they get frozen. That's just crazy talk.

I have the same car. And i have a question about the e-brake does it have different pads in the middle off the disk or not ? Couse my e-break is failing i adjusted the handle from the console and its tight but the breaks are not working.
@PatFripp7 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay. The e-brake does not have a 2nd set of pads on the inside (Drum Brake) there is a cable connector on the back of the main brake caliper that is pulled by the hand brake. If the the hand brake is pulling tight in the cabin it may be the assembly on the back of the brake caliper, there is a pivot and spring that are very exposed to road grime that maybe jammed.

Better to leave the hose in place, as it can be damaged by moving it around too much, and just remove both bolts on the caliper to remove the caliper completely... the new pads come with 2 new bolts anyway....
@williamgreen63216 жыл бұрын
You skipped to many steps. Like screwing in the piston, removing bolts and replacing pads.

There is one MAJOR issue with this video. A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF INWARD FORCE MUST BE APPLIED to get the piston to retract. A thin pair of channel lock pliers and a large c-clamp works. Otherwise...it JUST SPINS!!!
