Not gonna lie John, I really enjoy your content. Been watching you for years starting with your original 94 restore, the flare side, bronco, and the ol' red rust bucket. You've helped me tremendously on my OBS's, but I miss your long vids. Used to really give me something to look forward to.

Here in The Great Industrial Northeast, it's finally summer. Smoke from Canadian wildfires has abated or blown elsewhere and it's our typical 4-5 days a year of above 90° days of heat. Remember, we measure winter in months and summer in weeks! 😂😝😄

Hey Jon, Just listening to you is making me sweat. You hear it in your voice. Nice when something is supposed to be easy… is. Getting there… Hope the 4th was good for you, Jodi and friends. Stay cool. It’s miserable here too. So looking forward to fall. You can have summer. Enjoy and take care, Bill

Hey Bill! We had a great 4th... Yeah it was miserably hot... Been working on getting things ready for the 4th...then decided to make this video.. Yes, seems things that are supposed to be easy, somehow end up taking 5x as long as they should for whatever reason. So far this truck has cooperated with me pretty well! Unlike the Bronco that fought me on everything I did!! 😆.

I know it says install dry but I still would of applied a small thin coat of oil, regardless of the instructions, great job, 👌👍

Did you consider installing a new oil pan gasket while you have good access with the transmission out? Thanks
@freetolook3727 Жыл бұрын
@3:00 Jon, in this case, it would have been better to spray the brake clean on a rag/paper towel to wipe rather than spray into the end of the crankcase taking a chance that some of the brake clean ends up in the oil.

I’m sure he would be changing the oil as a last step

Plus from what I've seen... Those engines can run even without oil 😂. They are almost indestructible... But that's what I've seen others do...

Engines without oil? I remember some traveling salesman stopping at the RV dealership that I worked at the time trying to sell us Slick 50. He had a small gas engine that he filled with Slick 50, drained the oil out, then ran the engine for about 20 minutes. Needless to say, we were impressed but didn't buy any. We thought there had to be a gimmick as we've seen how long engines run without oil. Just a story! 🌡💥💸💸💸😂😂😂

It took me forever to install the rear main seal on my 302, finally found a hole saw the size of the seal and used that and the old seal to install it

Judging from the effort it took, that plastic piece, I think, was for protection of the inner lip edge prior to installation rather than for installation. Never seen that before on a seal. They must have gotten a lot of feedback on tne seals being defective before installing for the manufacturer to do something like that!
@TheFoxShop Жыл бұрын
Said right on the paper its use is for installing and must be removed after the seal is installed.

The reaf main seal may not leak now but I guarantee that after about a month's worth of use and putting everything all back together, it will! 😂

Are they prone to leak ?
@3rdcoastobs467 Жыл бұрын
@@kellismith4329after 30 years yes😂. Mines leaking on my 92 f150 with a e4od but I won't replace due to how hard it is to pull a trans in a driveway and how much those boogers weigh!! Might as well replace it while it's apart for good measure. I just had my motor and trans rebuilt on my other f150 (1993 lightning) and man...I will never pull another trans by myself. I'd rather pay for it!!
@kellismith4329 Жыл бұрын
@@3rdcoastobs467 mine is a ‘93 w/inline 6 and M5OD mine drips some I may tackle it someday, I had to do the trans case awhile ago wrestling it out/in underneath in a driveway not fun. I ended up tieing s/s wire to the 2 frame legs under it and winding nup the wire with nippers to keep shortening it and it works to lift it up when u gotta do it on your own - the transmission would be a huge undertaking
@freetolook3727 Жыл бұрын
@kellismith Do not know. But why take a chance on a cheap part that's easily replaced once the transmission is out? Taking out the transmission is the hard part and expensive if you can't do it yourself. Most people just keep adding oil until there's a need to pull the engine or transmission for repair and then replace the seal.

Mine is exact the same, except that Mfer won’t go in. 😡
@3rdcoastobs467 Жыл бұрын
Glad you replaced it now, didnt look to be leaking but its a bitch pulling a trans so it was perfect timing. That looks like a notorious oil pan leak and tappit/lifter gallery leak. Good news is that tappit/lifter gallery is fairly easy to get too on a straight 6 and the gasket isnt hard to swap. Enjoyed it jon! Happy 4th!
