Replacing the tail light on my sportster

A few months ago I got rear ended and broke my tail light. since then I have been back and forth with Harley and the Insurance company about getting it fixed. They finally decided to sell me the parts and just fix it myself. I kind of wish I had stuck to my guns and made them do it because it ended up being such a headache but then I wouldn't have anything to make a video about.

I don’t know why insurance is giving you a hassle. If you were rear ended and your struts may be bent. That’s a big problem.

What socket did you use to hold the light In place before you put it back in the fender?

is the wiring a simple disconnect and plug in? my rear turn sign is broken too and i have no crimping or soldering skills lol.

No, the plug won't fit through the hole in the frame so at a minimum you'll have to de-pin and remove it. Besides, the new light assembly doesn't come with a plug installed so you'll have to remove the old plug to put it on the new light anyway. I found it easier to just cut it and splice the new one back in. I got some butt connectors on Amazon that have heat shrink and solder included so all you have to do is strip the wire, put it in the connector and heat it up. No crimping or soldering necessary. I use a heat gun but a lighter works pretty well too.

what did you use to get the inside bolts on the fender? the two most forward to the seat have a nut on the inside i am having a hell of a time reaching. Just ordered some offset wrenches
