Thanks a ton for this... very informative! Lost the X590 drive belt last night out in the middle of our remote lake property and had to do this out in the field with no hydro for the 54" deck, forward/reverse drive, or power steering. What a joy that was LOL.

If someone wants to prolong the life of the pulley bearings, they can be serviced. I remove the pulley and from the top side, use a sharp pick to pull up the seal. Have to be gentle with it. I clean dirt out with compressed air and some spray, then pack bearing with high grade high temp wheel grease. Then place seal on top of grease and seal will snap back in place.
@CanadianDirt11 ай бұрын
You’re absolutely right, and this would actually be a good application for it where the bearing is integral to the sheave.

It is a lot easier on your back to take the steering arms off from the front. A 15mm wrench and a 17 mm socket are all you need. Also, that bar that you removed is not necessary to remove to get the new belt on. If you are just replacing the belt it is only necessary to undo the spring on the double pulley pivot arm not take both pulleys off, just the outside one. Thanks for your time and effort for making the video.

My lx280 just stopped moving forward reverse and parking brake won’t work. I wonder if it’s the pully? Belt is old but still turning
@sladeoriginal7 ай бұрын
Is my new trans belt supposed to be turning when the parking brake is engaged? It drives fine with power so I dont think it is loose. Maybe too tight? Its the right size.

Hey crazy dirt i just picked up a john deere 180 lawn tractor. I'm having a difficult time getting a belt for my trans drive belt the longest one? Do you have any leads on where i could pick one up? The original belt measures 86.50---86.625. I put a gates 6886 which is 86.0 in length but is slightly tight because the clutch dosent work right. The book i have calls for a m73223 but its way to short? Any help would be appreciated...James
@CanadianDirt4 жыл бұрын
Hey James, Yeah the 86" Gates would be a bit tight. It looks to me like a A85K v-belt should fit. The specs on that belt should be 87" long, 1/2" wide at the top (widest part of the V) and 5/16" deep.

thanks my front pulley just gave out on me and I gotta replace it. Its a shame they 1) made the pulleys plastic and 2) made that front pulley so you have to remove the bracket. If they were going to make piece out of plastic they should have made it a 5 minute replacement part.

If I was to swap the two drive pullies on my john deere l111 mower will it drive faster just need a little more top speed not for mowing though?

Changing pulley ratios on hydrostatic driven components is not really recommended as the stock ratio is part of an engineered system.

Crazy dirt i have a question on checking the transmision fluid on this john deere 180? Is there a spot on the case where to check for proper level of fluid? I have a manual trans not the hydrostatic. Thanks James
@CanadianDirt4 жыл бұрын
James Klimowicz No I don’t think there is a fill or drain on it because (I think) the manual trans uses bentonite grease, as opposed to a gear oil. Please double check that lube spec. before servicing it in case I am wrong.
@CanadianDirt4 жыл бұрын
James Klimowicz You got me wondering about that now. Just looked it up, if it’s the Peerless 800 trans that you have, the book calls for 30 Oz. of bentonite grease, Peerless part number 788067B.

@@CanadianDirt That great any ideas how to find out exactly what type of transmission it is? Ill look through the book i have but its not the best? You think there should be a tag or some identification on it somewhere?
@CanadianDirt4 жыл бұрын
James Klimowicz look for a tag or cast-in-place number on the side of the case.
@jamesklimowicz75914 жыл бұрын
Crazy dirt your correct on the peerless trans. numbers on the top of the tag are 801 039 bottom numbers on the tag are 6002 4499. Talked with the guy who i got the tractor from and this makes sence to me now why its leaking gear fluid he added a few ounces to the trans? Why he did this not sure but he drilled and tapped a hole in the case? My question is how do you think this will affect the trans? It shifts great no issues at this point? Should i add some of the recommended grease? James
