This was helpful. Same thing happened on my mk6 GTI. Main dealer will charge £130 for this simple job! Better to just do it yourself

My lower clips are floppy also, Does the sagging cause any issues?? like poor air flow inside the engine bay?

Seems to be a very common issue. Same on mine (2016 Mk7 Golf R) local VW dealer said it wasn’t a manufacturing defect... some people have had more luck and have had it replaced under warranty.... to my mind it’s clearly a poor quality part that seems to shrink due to the heat. Same as yours within 3 years. Around £ 70 from VW in the UK to replace.

the same issue happened with my mk6. I bought thermal reflective tape from mishimoto and laid that down in nice patterns where the indents are. Works well and looks pretty interesting.

Thanks for the video. The silencer on my 19 Golf R has failed three times, all replaced under warranty. I really think it's due to excessive heat from the turbo.

Mine has gone in the exact same place, I think it has shrunk due to heat, most of them all seem to happen in that exact same spot (turbo) area? I ain't going to bother replacing it as it will only fail again & there is no way it will damage the underside paint of the bonnet/hood as paint is oven baked at much higher temperatures, also Skoda's on the same MQB platform actually come without them as I had a Mk3 vRS 2.0T prior & was running without one for 5 years with no issue's, I did put one in after as it does help to quieten the engine sound but not massively.

I am not usually commenting etc, but I am running out of options. Could you please tell me what's the name of the insulation(clothy part) behind the engine? You can clearly see it when you roll to 5:09 on your video(it's behind the engine, basically inbetween the engine and cockpit). Mine is raggedy, and am trying to replace it(if not that, then patch it up with similar material). When I would go looking for it, how would i name that part?

I hope you find your answer. I know exactly what you mean, it's a heat shield component for the ABS Pump but I have no idea what the part number is.

Hey nice video. Typically there are some thermal properties with hood liners, and they’re there to protect long term paint fade occurring at the top of the hood. So a few hours or 300 miles on the track is really not going to show you… It’s really more closer to 3 to 5 years without a hood liner the paint a top of your hood is likely going to fade.

You could fix it by adding material on the back to make it more stable

Appears you can make a warranty claim but if you're out of warranty, it's a fairly cheap fix overall.

I think you'll find that the cause of it warping is due to heat from the Turbo. I've attached a thin sheet of heat shield to that area. 🤓 One other suggestion, drill 4 4.8mm holes through the liner and inner bonnet on the lower wider tabs and secure with FIR TREE BUTTON HEADS. Your liner won't move when these are fitted. 3:47
