I enjoy the videos!! I have one I still cannot figure out. I want the shockwave to reveal the scene, like a fill or color for dramatic effect, I have tried for years and can never nail it down exactly, I got close with multiple curtains under the shockwave set to black and then the fill on the bottom layer, it almost works but you can see the swag tail. Any tips on how to do this?

I’m assuming you have to re-render any previously completed sequences after replacing a model or swapping a model?

Are you saying that these models have over 1000 nodes? and use several ports on a controller? I have no models currently that are that big, a few that have over 700 nodes, and they can still run on one string. I always thought that as long as the controller can handle it then do it. Am I wrong?

Yes, you might be wrong. Brightness, number of pixels, and distance decide from controller will reveal how wrong you might be. Most ports and pixel controllers are rated for 5 amps. If you exceed that the fuse for that port may blow. You may see flickering or pinking of the color. I can run 700 pixels at 15% brightness with a 1 foot distance from controller to pixel. Do I recommend that? No.

So, I have to use Xlights on an older Windows 10 laptop or my Macbook, I am unable to use it on my main PC, which is my go to gaming system. I don't know why but for reasons unknown I cannot get Xlights to use more than 1 CPU core on my PC. Really frustrating, when I have an Windows 10 Pro system, Athlon Threadripper, 128gb of Ram, and dual RTX-3080ti video cards, I can render real time in blender, play video games at hundreds of FPS, but Xlights Crawls to task. When checking the resources it is trying to use just 1 core out of 24 physical cores available.

I'm still trying to figure out what this has to do with model replacements but okay, let's go there. LOL Two things: I think the threadripper is a horrible choice for xLights. But you said this was your gaming PC so probably great, if not overkill, for that. 128 GB ram will never be utilized by xLights but if you are compiling code, editing 8K video, and rendering in xLights then you might tap in to a bit of the 128GB but not all. As for the video card that's a nice one but xLights has had more issues on the Window's side with video this year than a one-legged centipede. Back to why you may not be utilizing your cores in xLights. When rendering effects in xLights at the group level it relies on single core operations. Models like the matrix and mega tree not in a group will take advantage of mulicores depending on the effects used. For those that think more cores are better have been fooled. Finding a balance with great single core operations and mullitcore operations is the key. If I were to use a PC for xLights I would be looking at the i9 series which is much better, in my opinion, at single core operations without sacrificing multicore when needed.
