I was so impressed with and happy for Paris Hilton after my boyfriend at the time had me watch this. Finally, her fame was earned and deserved, and she wouldn't just be known as an heiress. You have to remember: *Everyone in this movie did their own singing. No one was dubbed, including Paris.*

This movie was a lot of fun, and the music was amazing. The fact Paris Hilton was in it and did extremely well was a bit of a surprise at first, but when I found out the background and how much she actually cared about the project it made a lot of sense. I love this movie. My favorite character has to be Blind Mag. Not only does Sarah play her beautifully (so much so that I prefer her in this role to Christine), but she's one of the most poignant, truthful roles ever written. So often, when a character who's blind gets their sight, it's portrayed as being the solution to all their problems. Mag showed that inner wisdom and happiness, personal integrity, has nothing to do with physical sight and that it can often be a block to those things. As someone who's been visually impaired since birth, I found her story very moving and wish more characters like her would illustrate those themes.

This was right up my alley as a fan of 'weird movies' and opera. Opera was a risky choice since few of the cast can sing, much less sing opera. The half-spoken lyrics because the actors can't sing the part does get a little old after awhile. I applaud the choice but not the casting which just wasn't up to the task. Even as a movie- it still looks and feels very much like an episode of a Joss Wheden television show like Buffy. It's not even all that weird of a story if you are a fan of opera- which are very much products of their time with shocking sexism, racism and class elitism displayed by the heroes not the villains.
