After our Pyrenees tour I had decided to change the Tiger Explorer for a Africa Twin because I like to travel also on gravel and forest roads. If the bike would not have such a high center of gravity and such a heavy weight I would never have given it away. The 1200 Tiger from 2015 is a perfect touring bike but for my travel purposes it´s unfortunately not the right bike for me and I have found my perfect travel companion in the 2016 Africa Twin.

.. Iive in Africa.. Cape Town to be exact and have the AT (Basic).. a 1200 Triumph Explorer XCA and the KTM 1180 Adventure R.. having done 1000's of Kms on all 3 Bikes I've come to the Conusion that I love All 3.. each bike has absolutely Unique Abities and now depending on the kind of Ride/Terrain I expect to Ride.. I use the Bike most suited for that..

Good channe, and with the english subtitles was still very watchable. I had Triumph 1050 tiger and found the bike was a little top heavy. But the engine was reaaly good. But then I went to an Aprilia Caponord 1200. But didn't get on with it and now own a Honda Africa Twin dct in matt black. And I'm loving it. The only dislikes for me are the stand and the lower seat in the lowest setting is so uncomfortable!!!! So I go with the higer setting of 840mm. Keep up the great work as I have now subscribed. Oh, thanks, many thanks for your reply! To drive with the lower seat - I have made exactly the same experience. So I decided to go to a local saddlery to upholstered it and for a better stand I mounted higher handlebar risers

I have an Africa Twin. I came from HD Road King. I was afraid that the AT would be top heavy and unwieldy. I find it very easy to manage and very confidence inspiring even though I'm only 5'4". The ergonomics are great but the bars are a little farther away than I'd like, but the bike is new, I don't want to rush into things. I noticed that you got the good top loading panniers. Good for you. I have them as well. I've had top loading lockable panniers on my last three bikes. I wouldn't have anything else.

Hi! Nice video! I have a question though, i'm in the market for a new adventure helmet and cannot decide between the Shoei Hornet orArai tour x4. The thing im doubting about is the ventilation in the shoei. I see you are wearing one, how do you experience the ventilation? Is it enough for hot days like 25/30+ celcius? Any more pro's or con's about the hornet? Thanks in advance!

Hi.
@AlexonRoad
@AlexonRoad 7 жыл бұрын
@Andreas74Z
@Andreas74Z 7 жыл бұрын

Hi, thank you for a great video. I currently ride a Tiger Explorer XCA 2013, a great bike, but I agree it’s heavy and top heavy. I commute 15,000 miles a year on it. I really like the AT and have booked a two day off road adventure riding course with Honda at their training centre in the Exmoor National Park where we get to ride the latest AT with off road setup. So I guess I’ll get to really test ride it. Is there anything you miss about the TEX? or are you completely converted to the AT? Kind regards Adam G
@AlexonRoad
@AlexonRoad 6 жыл бұрын
HI Adam, you´ve made the same experiences like me, heavy and top heavy, a great pitty because I like this bike really! Completely converted, well, never say never! For example the new Tiger 1200. There is one thing that I miss, the POWER from this unbelievable triple, but I can live well with that because the AT has enough power for me. By the way; the new Tiger 1200; Triumph have reduced the weight around 20 kg and probably solved the problem with that top weight, that´s how I read. I´m very curiouis about it. But actually I`m still in love with the AT. Pls. let me hear from you when you were outdoor with the new AT. I´m very interested about your experiences. Kind regards and best wishes for the test-rides Alex

Hi Alex. I completed my two day off-road course with Honda Adventure in Exmoor riding the Africa Twin. What a machine! We had tricky conditions, and lots of slippery mud. The Africa Twins coped admirably. I cannot imagine doing the same on the Explorer. The low end torque is like a tractor, they just chug their way up the hill if need be, almost on tick over! It is still heavy to pick up when you drop it though and we needed two people to pick up most times. It’s the first time I’ve done any off-road and I’m amazed at what we managed to achieve. The bike is much more capable than I am that is for sure. But it is a confidence inspiring bike and really made for the job. It is also still really good on the road. The bikes had Metzler Karoo 3 tyres which seemed very good. They got us through the mud but are also really good on the road, lots of grip and no vibration. So, there you go, 10 out of 10 for the Africa Twin! Regards Adam

Yes true but I don't want another Triumph as their aftercare is crap for a premium price, also the Tiger 800 is down on power quite a bit. Tracer 900/FJ-09 is likely the winner.

@@triv7252 the tiger is 77hp at the wheel vs 81hp for the africa twin. Tracer 900 is another level the tracer seams to make good use of the 50cc extra. Maybe the fact it's a cp3 helps too.

Hallo. Schöne Grüße aus Nova Scotia Canada. Bin gerade am Info sammeln bzgl Africa The.

Ja danke, bin hin und her gerissen.

@AlexonRoad
@AlexonRoad 5 жыл бұрын

@@AlexonRoad great bike! Did you have earlier also Tiger 800? I have doubt what to choose, I am in arrangement with Triumph and have two choises, new Tigar 1200 xca, or to wait 2020 (decembar 3tr will be reveiled...) and buy new Tiger 900 Rally. I have similar need as you, as well I do not like too heavy bikes from the same reason as you, I like long trips but with small adventure off road like. What will be your suggestion from those two bikes? I tested new 1200 xca, it is very good fast bike, but I feel top heavy when not moving in manipulation on park or turning in close area...

@AlexonRoad 4 жыл бұрын
Pera yes I also had a Tiger 800 before, a wonderful bike, the engine is just reliable. Unfortunately, I do not know the current 1200, but I have read that the focus is now lower. However, it is still a really heavy bike, the Tiger 900 is certainly exciting, I'm very curious. But each test of the Africa Twin certifies her a very good terrain and road performance and I could test extensively. I rode the Twin in the fall in the Western Alps on a lot of challenging gravel roads and I can only confirm that .... and there is another reason else for me, the twin just sounds better than the triple .... it will ne the best to make testrides with both and then decide. .... and I guess it will be the Africa Twin at the end 😉😂🏍

It could it be your just a better fitt on the twin and too small for the heavier Tiger. Personal choice to suite your small build. Just dont buy a bike that's to big for you. I had the 800. Dont know why people choose the bigger when the 800 can do everything anyway.

Absolutely right, the 800 is completely enough. But I let myself be seduced by the PS ... stupid mistake

Thanks for your comment. I have to admit that there is probably no mobility area where the decisions, despite all rational reasons, are as emotional as with motorcycles and brands. That's a good thing.
