While I like DeSmith as a backup, he's a rebound machine. Silovs in his limited action has been better at swallowing up rebounds. Also, Arturs is probably the backup next season, why not give him a look to see what you have? Maybe you get your Cam Ward moment. DeSmith is a career backup for a reason, Arturs came through under incredible pressure at the Worlds, give the kid a chance!

Lego, good idea to do the stats analysis, but you forgot one thing - normalizing for what was average across the league at the time. Keep in mind Cam Ward's rookie run came during the late stages of the Dead Puck Era, where goals were generally harder to come by and goalies with obscenely high save percentages were a LOT more common, Arturs Silovs is doing what he's doing in the early stages of an offensive era, where high save percentage goalies are more rare, and goalies are generally facing better shooters with more room to work, so goals are generally more frequent, so goalies will generally have lower save percentages across the board for the Silovs era then the Cam Ward era. Just because you're comparing save % to save %, it's not an apples to apples comparison as there's nearly a 20 year gap between the seasons you're comparing, and league-wide averages in the AHL and NHL were much different then. Remember to also compare league average to league average when comparing stats from widely different eras in the future.

This is one of the reasons I gave Canucks no time a day in these playoffs. I don't, and never have trusted them. They just always felt either soft as baby sheet or snake bitten to me. Heck, I trusted the Jets a lot more than I trusted the Nucks these playoffs. demko has not had one full season in the nhl as the starter. his body just isn't built for the rigours of being an nhl goaltender. look at the likes of soros, giorgiev, hellybuck, babrovsky, sorokin, binnington. all 50-60 games a year stoppers year after year. demko's contract is up soon and they should look to get someone he can split the season with 41 games each like swayman/ullmark in boston.
