Hi Justine, I was abandoned by my mother, and I’m nearly 40 now, the pain has never left me and my entire personality was shaped by that traumatic event. I struggle to maintain relationships or trust people even now. I feel so sad for Suri, but at least she has one loving parent in her life. As an alienated parent, I believe Nicole’s kids were brainwashed against her and she was alienated. I’m happy to hear that there may be more contact now. But alienated parents learn very quickly to keep any criticism (about kids’ beliefs, or ex spouse, etc) silent. If you say (to an alienated kid) that something is wrong with the situation, it can drive them much farther away. It’s heartbreaking. Parents have to choose; speak out and possibly lose that relationship for ever; or keep quiet and leave the door open for reconciliation.

I don’t think Isabella would put up with that carry on. Isabella has chosen her own independent path despite being indoctrinated into Scientology from a very young age, home schooled by Tom’s sister and spending a period on the Seawinds. Her and her husband live a quiet and ordinary life in a modest flat in London. Conor was the LA rich kid seemingly interested in the fast life and wanted a career in music as a DJ. I think he returned to an active role in the church, but I don’t know what he is doing now.

If he’s paying child support, he’s abiding by the law. Technically, he’s not a deadbeat. A father doesn’t have to love their kids. I've always believed that the devastation to Tom when Katie escaped was way greater than he has ever acknowledged. He was actually a clinical psychologist: someone who provides counselling to patients but without being a medical doctor first and thus they cannot prescribe drugs to their patients. I agree. I think that this was part of the divorce agreement. That Tom would have no contact with Siri, pay child support, and in return, Katie would stay quiet about the things she saw and experienced. It’s going. With some of the things that ex-Scientologists have witnessed, and how narcs see their children as an extension of themselves, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities to believe that Suri saw some stuff and causally, perhaps intentionally told her mom. This could have triggered a more private agreement, or maybe could have broken clauses in the divorce agreement, that would be against Tom; like Katie being able to talk about things she’s seen. The thing is, it’s Scientology and the religion seems completely whacky; like movies wouldn’t even have come up with a plot so crazy about a cult. Then religion seems to be a case of “truth is stranger” than fiction. This means that even really crazy scenarios are possibilities. Liked Suri could be officially an SP but because that would look bad on Scientology, it’s not widely known except to Tom. It could even be because in their world, Katie is so vile, how could Suri be okay? I could see many reasons. The narc type thinking, or thinking with many cognitive distortions, which is seen in this religion, can lead to some outlandish rules and practices.
