PS: the edges of the first bulbo always get some dieback, whether LECA or organic. Since they seem to advance very slow, if at all, for the past year, I'm gonna leave them alone. Also since it's an isolated case, it's not wise to address changes in the general routine. Will see if the switch from LECA will fix the newer leaves in a couple of years or so ;)

Hi Danny, i've just searched the informations for orchids for our orchids and thanks god i've found you. Just curious about some things : why don't you put your bulbos in semihydro method? Just wondering because i've seen you repot your orchids on a semihydro lately and in your opinion what's better growing orchids on organics or on inorganics media? Fyi I live in Asia and my country is pretty warm and dry, especially on the afternoon so i still try growing my orchids on several medias and watch carefully everyday to see what's media they'll suit into.

Do you keep yours humid? I'm looking at getting one . What scent does yours have ? I'm looking at a curtisii but another video scared me and said if it doesn't have 60 or above humidity , it'll suffer but that's now how Dani is growing hers so that gives me hope lol

@@kellykittinger5969 so.. mine perished because I think I didn't keep it humid enough. I'm down to two bulbos, unfortunately. But now I know for the future! I wish I could've seen the macranthum in bloom 💔

Stephanie I'm sorry. That's what I'm afraid of but I just ordered the curtisii because it supposed to smell like chlorine water lol some say no fragrance but it sounded cool. I have dry air here in southern California so now I'm not sure what I'm going to do lol I don't have a humidifier or greenhouse so maybe my terrarium. Maybe you can still see it flower ? If you have some left you never know it could come back

Danni, I'm going to use a colander to repot one of my orchids in. I think she'll get lots of air to her roots due to all of the holes. Upcycling this old colander of mine is a pretty good idea even if I say so myself. 😄

Have you tried selfwatering pot method for bulbophylums? I want to know if it is a good idea before I buy my first one. Am chronically ill so self watering is one of the ways I can keep up with plants that like to stay moist

The most info I can find for seedlings are to keep them moist with a quick dry between waterings and plenty of bright light no direct sun. If you find some more info let me know please! I have 5 seedlings and could definitely use it

I was wondering if the new growth (outside the pot) can utilize the water the older roots suck ip from the pot. So if I add a long peace of wood for it to “mount” on, will it still receive enough water from the pot?

Your setup is similar to what I decided to do, but I did it more layered, moss, then leca/moss core then I plant the orchid in a loosen moss layer then bark at the top. I have found several ideas with orchids like those online, some people use Bonsai pots, but that didn't work for me because they are too shallow, as I learned pots need depth to retain water, especially if you live in a hot climate.

Yk I didn't realise my super super tiny Bulbophyllum elizabeth Ann bucklebeery was listed as a "medium stage" (it's immature, idl of they use the same terms in different regions) ☹️, and I had my suspicions cause the leaves on my plant were practically a QUARTER the size of online pictures and ot has only three pseudobulbs, and that too with only two leaves, and now I'm concerned 😟😭 the plant is just sitting around, neither growing nor dying, and I can't find any info regarding it's growth pattern 😒 it hasent changed one but singe it arrived to me

Hello I’ve been watching your videos and been looking on internet but haven’t found an answer, I have an orchid with dark green roots, is that ok?
@michaeltoolin8468
@michaeltoolin8468 5 жыл бұрын
Do you know what type of orchid it is? There are nearly a thousand genera, however it may be that you have algae growing on the roots; without more specific information about the orchid, growing conditions, type of media it is in etc...that is just a guess.
@Sblatus
@Sblatus 5 жыл бұрын
Michael Toolin ok, thanks. I think it is a regular Phalaenopsis, it’s on bark, I recently cut most of the roots due to rot, I left a few that are still hard to the touch (not rotten, I think) that are dark green, and the roots have various cuts (United by the core of the root), I hope this helps, thanks
@marioroz3142
@marioroz3142 5 жыл бұрын
@@Sblatus Is normal that old roots have cracks sometimes, the cracked part is called velamen and it is the "skin" that covers the actual root. Also is normal that roots green up when wet, but if they are very dark green or remain green after the media dries, maybe that they are just covered in algae.
@michaeltoolin8468
@michaeltoolin8468 5 жыл бұрын
@@Sblatus As long as the roots are still functional they should be ok, phalaenopsis roots are capable of functioning even with the velamen being cracked; they will often branch and grow a new root from the older root as well. It is likely that they have or had algae on them. Sometimes even when you clean them the roots stay a darker green color; keep an eye on them though and if they turn brown, black or start to rot then you can consider removing them.
