Beatiful plant! Rarely does one see the whole journey of younger avocados plants which were potted from seed. I think its really motivating and insightful for newer growers in the space, so thank you. How much do you actually prune, beside the one cut that you mentioned? Eagerly waiting for the summer update.

I did not prune this tree much at all, I remember I did an early cut to get the dual branch going when the tree was very young. And that major cut on the main stem, nothing else yet. My grandpa did!!! He had an avocado tree. Avocados wasnt sold here in Sweden when he did it, but he worked at volvo and he got the opportunity to travel to brazil and work there for a year. He took tree avocado seeds home with him. He planted them and people here say its impossible to grow tropical fruits here because of how dark it gets in the winter, but he did it anyways. He didnt expect them to get so old, but all of the trees survived in their pots for five years, then one of them died in the winter. But two of them survived and eventually they had flowers and then fruits!!! The trees only had three avocados that ripened, but still!!!! He got fruit after 14 years ahhaha. I have a 7 year old avocado tree, and one 2 year old. That 7 desperatly needs to be repotted, but i am so scared to do it because im afraid its gonna die. Its literally like a pet or even a child to me😭😭😭

Har du märkt någon skillnad på vanlig jord o medelhavsjord?
@NordicPlantLover2 жыл бұрын
Hello. It depends how big pot they have now, and how fast they grow. If planted in a small pot, I would repot them when they have maybe 3-4 set of leaves this year, and another time in spring :). Don’t know, I am still waiting 😊

The thing about using normal rocks on the bottom of a pot when attempting to avoid root rot is that the water just sits at the bottom beneath the soil and the roots will simply grow down towards the water until they are all sitting in water anyways which totally defeats the purpose of the whole process. This guy used clay though which absorbs tons of water, which means water likely doesn't sit for long on the bottom but rather is transferred back into the soil quicker and the roots won't grow downwards as much.

Good explanation 😊

What kind of avocado is that ?🤔
@NordicPlantLover2 жыл бұрын
It is grown from the seed of a Hass avocado. But avocado is not true to seed/type so it will not grow hass avocados. So it''s some kind of mutant hass I guess :D

which part of Sweden were you living in?

Wow, I had no idea that avocado trees can get so big indoors! I have a few questions: 1. in which season is it better to move them to a bigger pot? 2. How did you know it's time to move it? 3. How come you didn't mix the soil with perlite? 4. Did you mix fertilizer in the water after the move, or just watered it normally? Again, thank you for the very clear and instructive video!

Thank you for watching! :). 1. I think it’s best to repot 1-2 months before the spring, so it can get get used to the new pot and soil well before the growth spurt :). But if it’s really in need of a bigger pot, don’t wait! 2. You can gently try to pull it out of the pot, and if it has a lot of roots swirling in the bottom, it’s time! 3. I never tried perlite actually, I usually buy premix soil that has some drainage already. 4. I fertilize with long lasting green sticks during spring/summer. 2 times a year approx

Can you plant an avokado plant in a terracotta pot or will that be too dry?
@NordicPlantLover3 жыл бұрын
You can. But it will dry out faster, so you just have to water it more regular. I have some of my smaller in terractottas :)

omg how did yours grow so quickly? mine is 3.5 years old and is only about 3-4 feet tall
@NordicPlantLover3 жыл бұрын
This guy has been very strong from the start. I have noticed the growing speed can differ quite much from seed to seed. And also, some avocados love as much sun as possible, while others get too hot/burnt.

@@NordicPlantLover thanks for the reply ! Did you prune yours at all? I haven’t repotted mine in 2 years and I’m about to do it, but my pot is the same size as yours and it hasn’t grown for months now !
@NordicPlantLover3 жыл бұрын
I did an early prune to get the dual branch going when the tree was very young. And one major cut on the main stem, when i had to move the tree to a new appartment like 2 years ago, nothing else yet. What kind of soil do you use? Maybe it's out of nutrient, because it should not stop growing like that if it has a big pot, and nutrients in the soil. Unless its placed with very low light maybe.

Im always scared that if I putt it out by the trunk, I will break it from the roots
@NordicPlantLover2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it might if it is a smaller plant, and dont have enough roots to fill the pot yet. But you can often feel if the pull is on the trunk vs roots, or if its the whole pot soil that is stuck :).
