Well I'm sure it's not an Americana. I know this one well having lived in California & Arizona, Americana is used in landscape a lot!! Both regular & variagated. The one you have has much deeper dips in between the thorns on the margins of the leaves. Funny, I just repotted my 38 year old agave parrasana because of the same reason!! I think we neglect our agaves because they are so very tough!!!!! And can take the worst neglect and still come out on top!!! Whatever that agave is it is very interesting. Cool plant!!! From Morris park in the Ozarks to across the Emerald isle, have a plant filled weekend!!!( and I know you will!!!) Peace,Love,Plants!!!!!✌💖🌵🌺🌴🌻🌿

That must have been a feat removing that Agave from the pot! 😱 the roots are amazing. i wonder if they can be invasive when left in the ground if the conditions are right...only Agave i see close to it is A. titanota. 😬 teamwork does really make a task so much easier. 🥰 Always glad knowing you both are safe and well. ❤️🌵🤗😘🥰❤️

Great job! I'm embarrassed to say I have not repotted my agave in twenty years! HA.. The original planting of two small ones in a pot,, has turned into the original two plus tons of pups.. all living happily together... I'm sure when the time comes...(and it will) I will have to bust the pot to get them free. But for now.. I enjoy it alot the way it is. :)

Most agaves are very though. You can cut off & remove 30% of those roots, comb out the rest & it'll still thrive. Looks like a coupla agave oroensis (Or "concepcion del oro" in the mexican highlands.). Similar to americana (Prolly family!), but broader leaves & striped, darker spikes on the leafsides.

Your agave looks like Agave salmiana var. ferox. I grow my agaves outside all year round here in London, UK. I put my larger growing agaves in as big of a pot as possible (tree pots) and water them every single day in the summer to get them to big specimens. I’m a bit of and Agavephile, I currently have 34 different species, subspecies and varieties in my collection.

Great video. I love agaves and just got an Agave attenuata in the mail I bought through the mail from a grower called Plantgaga. I'm now at the 4:00 marker. Shouldn't you have removed and potted up the pups on the roots before you potted up the root ballpf the "mother" plant? I think I would have...to reduce the crowding and let them start a new life in another pot. Am I right? I subscribed too, BTW.

@desertplantsofavalon
@desertplantsofavalon 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Des :-D yes the good news is you can remove the roots that are forming into plants and re pot them individually, they will look a bit white at first due to the lack of chlorophyll but green up over the days, if you pot the roots that are forming into plants and they are white its best to keep them in a shady position away from direct sunshine until they get greener, thanks so much Des for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle and have a safe and wonderful plant powered Friday today XXXX

What happens if your repot it in a pot that's more than one size up?
@desertplantsofavalon
@desertplantsofavalon 9 ай бұрын
Hi there, if the pot is bigger there is a possibility that the soil does not dry out fast enough and the roots can rot, I prefer to pot up just one size up so the soil dries out faster, if using a clay pot it can be safer to pot up into a larger pot then as clay pots help the soil to dry out much faster than plastic pots, thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

@@desertplantsofavalon thanks for the response! I asked that AFTER we had already repotted my foxtail agave in a pot that's a few sizes up. Ooops! I'll be sure to watch the amount of water I give her. Hi Kalesia :-D yes you can prune the roots back on Agaves to keep them in the same pot, but when you prune them keep the Agave unpotted for about 2 days to allow the cut roots to heal over until you repot it again, and leave a week after you have re potted before watering again, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and have a wonderful plant powered Friday today XXXX
