Repotting my Most Finicky Alocasia

I got a rescue Polly about 4 months ago. I had to repot within 48 hours becuz of rot. Since she was exposed, I was able to retrieve 9 corms! Today, mama Polly is beautiful and flourishing (1 leaf carried the burden for months). And all 9 corms have developed into full baby plants! Each has a leaf and looking fabulous! I agree she’s a persnickety one, but the dark green and purple colors are worth it. Thanks for sharing

I have that same kind of Alocasia and it hates me. First it was mites, tons of mites!!! It was in quarantine so no threat to any of my other plants. Then it was not humid enough (I gather.) then my sweet husband moved the pot and didn’t move it back so it caught a sunburn… I really want to give up. But she is so pretty when she is happy. I’ve looked into the PON, I might get a small pot to see how I like it.

Looking back, I really should’ve cut them. I’m thinking about digging it back up and removing them. It’s been bothering me that much! 😅

Hi!!! Love that you’re doing longer videos!! Question though, how do you know how deep to put the roots? I just reported my Alocasia dragon scale in pon with the self watering planter but I’m worried the water isn’t able to get to the roots. What are your thoughts?

I just got my first alocasia, it's little one. And my daughter brought me 6-9 corms?? Idk if that's rite😊 I'm still learning. But I made me a little tiny greenhouse out of a giant Easter egg and got the idea from you!😅 I do pretty good with philodendrons and birds so I'm going to try my hand at this. Wish me luck!

Great video! I am new to Pon , I thought you are suppose to rinse it first, but the way you use it and the way your plants are flourishing, I think someone is really wrong. Also i love your curls!

Thank you for your support! I see this being debated all the time on Facebook. Rinsing will wash off more of the sediment, but it’s not that crucial. Lechuza triple washes Pon before it gets to the customer. The sediment that’s left is negligible and not worth the extra effort of rinsing. I only rinse when I’m acclimating plants or propagations in clear containers. Rinsing off all the sediment allows me to see the water level better.

I’d have cut the roots off. I’d be worried about rot. She looks beautiful in her new pot.

Well, it’s too late now cause I’m not digging that plant out again! Lol He had to form an entire new root system last time I repotted him (All the soil roots died after I moved it to Pon and it looked like a mess for months!) We’re just gonna have to hope for the best this time! 😅💚

I have alocasia polly corms and keep messing up trying to get them to do anything. I have some 2 inch ones that are definitely good, and then some babies which dont break when pinched, so promising. Anyways, im trying again, i lovveeee your polly!

You should have cut the ruts they’re gonna rot you’re gonna be in trouble I know it’s a lot of work after you’ve repotted but it will be worth the love she’ll give you BEAUTIFUL YOU BEAUTIFUL PLANTS
