thank you for this! I always see lovely reptile set-ups like this but it's hard to find exact instructions on how they're put together. this was really informative and easy to follow, and definitely convinced me that heat panels are the way to go!

Just a tip because you share so much with us is that on flat cords like that one feel the sides of the cord. One side will be rounded and smooth the other will have ribs or texture. This is for most. Some are cheap but the textured or ribbed is the neutral side. You don’t really have to worry if it’s a round cord because they usually have colored wires. If you have a toaster you can check and see what I’m talking about with the texture on one side. Just so you don’t have to run around and look for a cord. Hope this helps. Marking them isn’t bad just a step you don’t have to take:)

That would definitely fall under the personal preference category. I use thermostats on each enclosure in a stack that are located on the side. So for me, this direction is much easier to work with.

How do you keep the bigger snakes and cages humidity level up ?
@sghpest4 жыл бұрын
Never have any issues with humidity with the PVC enclosures. But if you are having low humidity, you can mist or place water supply closer under RHP and that will increase the level.
@jackp95705 жыл бұрын
So much good info in your videos. So you have two rhp’s in each enclosure? Do you have a probe under each? If so how does the temp and everything work? Sorry if you’ve already done a vid on it that I haven’t seen
@sghpest5 жыл бұрын
Thank you and no problem. I use 1 RHP on each enclosure which gives a great temperature gradient. And yes, the probe is directly under RHP on floor.

With a ProProducts RHP what substrate would You recommend? I have heard that any type of coconut husk bedding is great at retaining humidity, but when used with one of these heat panels and an Animal Plastics enclosure, the substrate gets soaking wet with condensation which causes molding issues.

I am on Newspaper. Not a big fan of the husk or reptile bark stuff for that very reason.

@sghpest5 жыл бұрын
THAT is a question that I feel I wouldn't be able to answer correctly. Definitely give Bob a call at ProProducts, he would be able to answer that more accurately.
@GodZirra5 жыл бұрын
RHP's are not for "basking". They heat the entire enclosure and everything in it including the air.
@Jules-sn7pf2 жыл бұрын
When installing a radiant heat panel you need to Allow Some Space between the panel and the wall of the enclosure otherwise the panel will overheat and will not be as efficient or last as long.
@stephenanderson13585 жыл бұрын
I know this is an older video, but I'd like to ask....why a radiant heat panel?....what are the pros and cons of radiant heat panels; compared to other heat options why would you use a radiant heat panel? When and where is it good to use one; when and where would you use something other than a radiant heat panel?
@sghpest5 жыл бұрын
Heat Panels are the most reliable, long lasting, dependable heat source. When used with a thermostat, they offer the best heat gradient for enclosures, specifically PVC enclosures. And I use them exclusively with all of my animals.

There are several options for PVC Enclosures. There is Animal Plastics, Boaphile, LLLReptile, Reptile Basics, etc. I have also uploaded a video on how to build these yourself if you can find a PVC sheet distributor. Plenty of avenues available. 😁

Hey Justin, so far so good on the 3m for the LED lights. They are super light. As for enclosure size, I use 4x2x1 for less than 2 yrs old, 6x2x 16" for up to 4 yrs old, and 8x30"x18 for 4+. That can vary depending on what growth rate you choose to uphold. And the LED lights can be purchased at Lowe's for $15.

How hot does the panel get when u shoot it with the temp gun?
@sghpest5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, interesting question. I have never shot a temp on the panel itself, just the hot spot. I do know that they operate at a temperature that is safe for your animal. Specifically snakes. I've had several questions about them being used for lizards and such, but I'm afraid I'd be the wrong person to ask about those anyway. Pretty sure they are not recommended for a belly heat situation, if that is what you are implying with your question.
@tattoobrian685 жыл бұрын
Hey Steve what size panel are you using in the T8 4x2x1
@sghpest5 жыл бұрын
The 65 Watt, 12x18 is perfect for the 4x2x1. Biggest factor would be if your ambient temps are unusually low.

@sghpest5 жыл бұрын
$20 thermostats from Amazon. Have worked very well for several years although the temp on stat is not accurate. As long as you have a temp gun and periodically shoot a temp and adjust as needed, it is a very useful inexpensive alternative.
@The-GreenHornet5 жыл бұрын
@@sghpest , Thanks for the info. But I would want something of better quality and pay a bit more for more accuracy.

@@The-GreenHornet that's where "what works for you" comes in. Lol. That is actually a great idea if you have 1 to a few enclosures. But when you have over 30, that tends to be very expensive. Wouldn’t heat shrink work better for the light than the wire nuts? And polarization doesn’t matter after cutting they are just wiring the size or gauge are identical hope that helps you, and I’m not sure about tape I rather screw the light inside so just invade I wouldn’t have to fix something when it could have been done correctly the first time, but that’s my opinion only however looks great, awesome video
