Actually I had an idea regarding Reptile: It's part of a much larger story but basically, the tournament structure of the first MK is reworked to be some sort of "stock matches". The three earth heroes vs three outworlders, or at least people that work with Shang Tsung. When one character loses, they can get killed, and the guy that just won will move on to fight the second character of the other team. Up until one of the team is completely wiped out. In that scenario, Johnny Cage would win the first match but fail at the second one on the Pit. He would get pushed down and be sent at the very bottom of it, but survive the fall with some good reflexes and thanks to his power. Here he would meet Reptile, who is roaming down here to execute losers that survived the fall. Johnny would actually manage to beat him though, despite his injured state, because Reptile's job, that lasted for millenias, made him extremely lazy and stiff since it's so easy normally. Afterwards Johnny can't find an actual exit for the Pit, so he needs Reptile's help to show him the way. Reptile having gained some form of respect for him (and being too subservient to anyone stronger than him), actually shows him the way out and he regroups with his fellow warriors. He then asks Reptile if he wants to join Earthrealm since he doesn't seem like a bad fellow, and any help is welcome against Outworld, but Reptile would refuse at first. Reptile would then go on a questioning spree and finally rebel against Shao Kahn when the chameleons find him. However, he also wouldn't forget the friends he made during his time in Outworld, nor his bond with Johnny Cage, who spared his life even after beating him. This could make Reptile a pretty Neutral force in the conflict, where like Scorpion, he works for his own agenda, but he also has ties to the two major sides of the conflict. (Side note: Reptile would not be able to talk for a long time because of being reduced to his primal state by Shao Kahn for so long, gradually losing his cognitive understanding of the situation. He needs to regain his humanity and identity by actually rebelling and standing up for himself. I also want to give him a semi-human appearance as his disguise crumbles away.)

You know what I think would make Reptile more interesting beyond “wants to save / bring back his race”? Give him a rival. Liu Kang has Shang Tsung / Shao Kahn, Scorpion has Sub-Zero / Quan Chi, Sonya has Kano, Raiden has Shinnok or whoever tries to invade Earthrealm, Baraka and the Tarkatans have the Shokan / Centaurs. Nearly all of the legacy characters are given rivals to expand their stories, so it makes sense for one of the most popular ones, especially one who only appeared under strict conditions in his first appearance, to get a rival, and I know exactly who. Think about it. Reptile is a dinosaur / lizard man. What do lizards eat? BUGS. If you make Reptile and the Saurians / Zaterrans the natural enemy / predator of the Kytinn, and he’s forced to work with D’Vorah during the events of MK X in an uneasy alliance under Kotal’s regime (with Kotal promising to find a way to revive the Saurians under the condition that they serve him) AND D’Vorah maintains her position as Kotal’s advisor up until the point in the story where she defects to the side of the Netherrealm, it gives him several choices to make. He can: A.) remain in Outworld where he has access to Shang Tsung’s Flesh Pits and can use his own DNA (blood samples) to rebuild his race from scratch, starting with Khameleon (making her canon to the story), B.) defect to Earthrealm after D’Vorah’s betrayal. He can ask Raiden to enhance his body to its full maturity (giving us a Reptile appearance akin to that of MK: DA, which also enhances his speed and abilities in kombat) and offers to help gather information on the Revenants and D’Vorah’s actions while maintaining contact with Kotal to inform him of the theft of Shinnok’s amulet. He accompanies the Kombat Kids to the Sky Temple, knowing D’Vorah will be there, and he engages her, killing her after a lengthy fight before Cassie fights Shinnok in his corrupted form. Reptile attacks Shinnok first, but is batted away with no effort. Cassie beats Shinnok and Reptile stays in Earthrealm, retreating underground, or C.) break out on his own, make his MK X ending canon by discovering a hidden Saurian / Zaterran colony, rebuilding it underground and siding with Earthrealm after Kotal and the Outworld invaders are pushed back. The Saurians remain underground until the events of MK 11, and the Raiden brought from the time merge discovers the underground Saurian / Zaterran colony. He requests their assistance in dealing with Kronika and the Revenants. Reptile and the Saurians / Zaterrans accept under the condition that D’Vorah and the Kytinn be exterminated. Raiden accepts the terms, enhancing Reptile himself to his MK: DA appearance as I mentioned before. After Scorpion’s chapter, Reptile encounters D’Vorah and kills her as revenge for her betrayal. Either way, Reptile’s race gets restored, D’Vorah dies (permanently, which I imagine would make a lot of fans happy) and Khameleon possibly becomes canon. Just my two cents 🤷🏻‍♂️

Reptile, like allot of MK characters has always been handicapped by his designated role in the mythos. Which has sadly always been Goon. Baraka had the same issue for awhile, until Deception emphasized his leader of the Tarkatan horde thing. That didn’t get any real development till 11. So redoing Baraka’s arc with Reptile probably wouldn’t work. So my idea is a slight remix on the Saurian’s actually being alive in Earthrealm and being granted land by Kotal idea. While the lead Saurian matriarch is grateful for Reptile’s help and the aid his friendship with Kotal has brought. Reptile’s independent streak, brought on by years without a matriarch to follow. Makes her fearful that other Saurians will be influenced by him, thus destabilizing the community of the still fragile race. So Reptile is exiled in a very Fallout 1esque “You’ve saved us, but you’ll kill us.” kinda way. He’ll still aid his people for the shadows. Tipping the scales in their favor or killing an Outworld Overlord trying to encroach on their land. But after all his work and searching, Reptile can’t truly be a part of his people’s community. Ironically, the connections & friendships that allowed him to grow as a person and secure land for his people. Have ultimately doomed him to be ostracized by said people. A fate he willing accepts, since he’s just happy that they’re living & thriving. I think that makes him different enough from Baraka and his whole arc in 11. Additionally I’m not sure what to do with the K/Chameleon’s. Maybe K is the only one who knows of Reptile’s sacrifice. While C is jealous of the faith the matriarch has in Reptile. Which could lead to a pseudo mentor role for Reptile if written correctly, which could be neat. IDK, I’m just spitballing here.

In the original timeline, Reptile should have joined the good guys after meeting Khameleon in MK3. I didn't like how Midway never followed up on this story line despite Armageddon confirming that its canon.

I don’t know if this matters but I have a suggestion for Erron Black. In MK11 we are told that Black was “wiser as a younger man” but Black retorts “lucky my ass didn’t get killed” I think this implies the opposite. As a order Erron Black has change from a pure thrill seeker to something more. How this could work could be tie into his back story. Having been raised in the Wild West with horrible family abuse potentially, Erron was a jaded a suicidal person. Someone who openly did jobs and stuff for the fun of it. He fought for people like Kahn and Shang because he didn’t care anymore and did not really value anything but coin and thrill seeking. However through one way or another: maybe his interactions with Kotal or him reflecting on his decades of service to Kahn and Shang. You can even tie in the black dragon part, and just say he started to hate becoming the same thing as his dad (his father was implied to be a pretty bad bastard). Maybe that’s why he joins Kotal but pretends it’s for money to keep us his persona. It actually would have also maybe the Sonya Blade chapter of MK11 more interesting as Black and Cassy could have been the ones to go after Sonya and Johnny. The final fight and cutscene could have been older black either sacrificing himself by killing his past self (metaphorically killing and wiping away his crimes and sins), or he could have beat his younger self and acknowledge he doesn’t want to become that man again.

Reptile is mixed case for me cuz as a fighter he's awesome, he's one of the best Ninjas & he was Dope in MK 2 & 3. However, Storywise especially when he started devolving in MK4, he always been written as & treated like someone's bitch. Ever since he lost his race, its like he could never be his own person. In the Midway era, he was Shao Khan lackey & never even got to do anything with the Chameleons Yes of course he was the vessel for Onaga but that only happened cuz he just so happened to be there after being tricked by Nitara and once Onga fell, he went straight back to being reptile with no new traits or abilities. In NRS era, he just a servant & his whole thing is basically "I want my race back" which only happens in Endings All in all this video is a huge step up from anything we've seen from Reptile from a long time

It's a shame that he, like so many others, had juuuuust enough interesting stuff about his character that it makes you want more but then they absolutely squander it by essentially making him a jobber.

Hey snake, I was wondering if you plan on doing a wasted plotential on Mokap and Meat . I understand they started off as just jokes and Easter eggs but I think the two of them actually have a lot of story potential, Meat definitely has more than Mokap but you could still do something cool with him as well . How about what if Mokap is the one who played Johnny Cage in the movies after he died? With his likeness being added in post with the use of cgi and what if Johnny isn’t actually that mad about being replaced because he was already close friends with Mokap and he is the only person Cage sees as the coolest person they could get to play him (other than himself of course) . While I do like your idea of it being one of Johnny’s stunt doubles who gets the role I think this makes more sense and adds a bit of interesting lore to both Mokap and his friendship with Johnny . After MK9 since Earthrealm has so few warriors remaining what if Johnny offers Mokap a place as the tutor for new recruits in the special forces? Although he has no powers or augments and wouldn’t be that useful against Shinnok he’s still a great fighter that could help out by using his extensive knowledge of martial arts to train future soldiers . Maybe Mokap even trained Cassie for a while and she learned a few moves off of him as well as Johnny like maybe that’s where she learned how to do a flip kick . I think that if Mokap had this role he could potentially appear playable as a DLC character In which case I have a few ideas for his gameplay . Feel free to skip these next few sentences but I believe that a character’s moveset, gameplay and animations is just as important as actions in the story when it comes to characterisation . He could just be a mirror match fighter that copies his opponents moves perfectly and with the help of editing he actually appears to be them but that is by far the laziest and unoriginal concept I came up with, although an intro animation where we see how he’s recreating his opponents weapons before the effects start would be pretty neat and could keep the comedic tone of his character intact . Personally, I think it would be cool if other than martial arts, Mokap actually used special effects tricks in his gameplay such as using stage wires to lift the opponent up like Ermac’s Tele-Slam , recreate stunts like the Flying Kick that he doesn’t have the proper training to actually pull off or just using them to fly around with all the equipment coming from above offscreen . Maybe he could also have some assistance from the set crew or other actors as considering one of Johnny’s most iconic lines is that he IS the special effects it doesn’t make sense for his gameplay to have him actually use stunt doubles and cameras so I’d give those moves to Mokap and give Johnny more cool martial arts moves instead . He could use stage lights to blind the opponent or whack them over the head with a boom mic , maybe some stage lights could even fall down and crash on top of the opponent? That might make actually make for a decent fatality as I can’t realistically see Mokap resorting to kill his opponent much like I can’t with Johnny (In the story, not gameplay but that’s a whole other bag of worms) . I have tons of other ideas for Mokap moveset wise but let’s not forget about Meat shall we? I really enjoyed your portrayal of him in MK Khronicles with his relations to Mileena & Skarlet and really wish more people would actually read it rather than saying you should be writing for Mk for the thousandth time , to be fair you absolutely should be but I digress . Like I said I liked that chapter a lot and wish to expand his role by having him and Skarlet both become some of Mileena’s main allies in the civil war against Kotal during MKX . Maybe Skarlet takes on a more advisory role while Meat is more of a bodyguard who makes up for his lacking intellect with his sheer devotion to protecting Mileena regardless of how much pain he feels because of what she did for him , freeing him from the flesh pits and actually putting some meat on his bones and all that . From there I think that once Mileena is defeated and Skarlet goes back into hiding Meat would probably either be executed by Kotal or die trying to protect her . I was thinking about what if Jade was still alive by the time of MKX, never dying to Sindel and how they could have established their relationship there instead of forcing it into MK11 and I think this might effect what happens to Meat as well (hypothetically) . If Jade is still alive and by Kotal’s side, maybe she could hear of Meat’s story and reflect on how maybe Mileena had some (small as it may or may not be) good in her and decides to convince Kotal to let him live . Eventually Meat would be put on trial but representatives from the village he and Skarlet were residing before they left show up to defend him, saying how he did nothing but help people with tasks and defend their village from bandits before he left . After a few others come forth on how Meat was only repaying a debt and only ever defended, never going out of his way to attack innocents and only ever killing in defence . Despite Kotal’s resistance Meat is spared from death and given a short sentence before being released and sent back to the village as its official defender , although now very upset about Mileena’s death , where he reunites with Skarlet thanks to their blood connection who is laying low for the time being due to still being on the run and is later sought out by Tanya, setting up a potential plot to revive her in MK11 . Now that that it said I’m going to get into how Meat would play like if he were brought back . Since Meat is a bodyguard in this concept who defends no matter the cost I can see his moveset being focussed on armoured moves such as a running charge and attacks where he dismembers himself to take advantage of his immunity to pain . Even though his moves are armoured he will still take damage from attacks so it helps convey this theme of “Bodyguard with No Self-Preservation” while also forcing the player to make quick decisions e.g. Do they risk taking damage just to land a hit and will they be able to capitalise on the hit effectively? Attack-wise i can see Meat’s Cleavers from MK Armageddon reappearing for certain attacks and combo strings , with him actually storing the weapons inside his body under misplaced folds of muscle to act as pouches . Carrying on with the Butcher theme I can see Meat calling down Meat Hooks from the sky to snag the opponent out of the air and hold them in place at the cost of being unable to hit low . This would be good for him as Meat would likely be a grappler-style character and would have very slow with his only movement options being the armoured charge and a slide using the constant flow of blood oozing from Meat’s body , since Skarlet basically stole his teleport, with the Meat Hook helping to pin down the opponent and let Meat try and move in before they can free themselves . Maybe he could even have a secret fatality where he uses a Meat Grinder although its just a suggestion, doesn’t fit with his character but does fit with the butcher theme so I don’t know . As for his self-mutilation moves I can see his bowling ball head projectile returning and maybe the EX version has him spike his head like a volleyball instead . In the game his head quickly grows back but what if his head actually stayed off and acted like a puppet that can bite the opponent’s ankles or use a stream of blood from his neck like a jet to propel himself similarly to Ms. Fortune from Skullgirls . I can also see him ripping off his own arm and swing it around with his other arm to extend the range of his attacks or could rip off his leg and swing it like a baseball bat to reflect projectiles and knock the opponent away . I’d also like to see him using his own intestines as a makeshift lasso to pull his opponent in with or wrap around their neck to choke them . His Eye pull move it would probably make it as an intro animation or a regular taunt because a grappler who can heal themselves sounds kind of unfair . A move of his I actually want to see return would be his back breaker from his wrestling style but with an added twist . When he slams the opponent on his knee he dislodges his bones and stabs the opponent in the back with his kneecap . I can see him using a bit of blood magik in his moveset but not as much as Skarlet does, mainly just to repair himself in his recovery animation after ripping himself apart or using blood portals to summon the aforementioned Meat Hook and maybe a super where he sends the opponent to the flesh pits where they are mauled by all of Shang Tsung’s other failed creations . Anyways I’ve gone on long enough I just really enjoy both of these characters and really wish they would return in a later instalment (Although they wouldn’t be given this level of consideration and just be boring jobbers even if they did) and I’m tired of IGNorant fans brushing them off as the worst MK characters just because they are Joke characters . Was this stupid? Probably, but I’m pretty proud of these ideas and wanted to share them somewhere as I’ve had a lot of free time lately and have had these two on my mind for some reason .

Side note, I always laugh when someone has to say Chameleon and Khameleon. But I like the ideas, especially Reptile finding his people to bloodthirsty after finding them again and realizing it wasn't worth it. Also the Chameleon's being artificial would be some fun.

FINALLY! I've waited for this video for sometime, 4thSnake. Reptile has been my favorite character since I first played MK, it was MK Trilogy. I felt Reptile had all the makings for a great character. Not a genuinely evil character, just working out of a need to survive and with the best chance possible to restore his race. His few victories and many loses made him genuinely sympathetic. I just despise how Netherrealm just doesn't properly utilize his character and I'm hoping (against hope) that that changes down the line.

Syzoth reporting in: Don't forget the disrespect done to Reptile lately! He's the only MK1 character and MK2 character to not be in MK11. He spits his acid that dissolves humans entirely - directly into Takeda's eyes but Jacqui washes it out with water and no damage is done. They haven't let this unfortunate jobber win a single fight in 2-3 games. Furthermore; Alien in MKX is literally just a buffed reptile. Complete with tail. He has acid spit. Dash. And the pounce flip and it's all better than reptiles. 🤔

Reptile was one of the most interesting characters in the original trilogy, first as a secret character in MK1 with Scorpion and Sub-Zero's moves, and as a playable character in MK2 and UMK3 with his own movelist. I think they could have done a version of Reptile that hearkens back to his role as a hidden character with Scorpion and Sub-Zero's moves, but with his own spin on them. (The ice orb becoming an acid orb, using his tongue in place of Scorpion's spear, having a similar slide and teleport, ect.)

She’s the last female saurian, has a deep hatred of shao kahn, and has been confirmed to be in the 2010s timeline(although through an mkx intro dialogue), yet she doesn’t even appear outside the Wii versions of Chameleon’s games(and Chameleon most likely isn’t a saurian, his race is unknown alongside everything about him besides his deadly skills). She could’ve appeared back in MK2011, seeing Raiden putting together earth’s defenders and joining in the hopes of getting revenge on shao kahn.

I've liked my idea of having Reptile find out a chunk of his race were being used to produce acid as an ingredient for Tsung's sorceries (which gets stored in the acid pit stage). Perhaps there's an egglayer to constantly replenish "stock". If we want to twist expectations, perhaps the egglayer escapes after catching a glimpse of Reptile before he's captured for harvesting, inspired to save her people.

Great vid and Great ideas. Another character that I feel is wasted potential is Baraka. Very iconic design, but they've had him job too much to other characters. He interesting backstory with the whole crossbreeding netherealm demons with outworld "humans". This could have been explored more in showing the depths that Shao would sink to, so to speak. There is also his on-off relationship with Mileena. Her MK2 ending shows them as conspirators and lovers. Deception has them as enemies and Armageddon just features a bit in Baraka's ending where he makes her his queen. The new series actually shows a bit more with him advocating her claim to the throne in mk9, and literally dying for her in mkx; however, the pre-fight dialogues between them in mk11, once again, puts them at odds. There is no reference to the fact that he fought and died protecting her. I will say this though, the bit in which he offers her community amongst his tribe is a nice touch and I feel could really work in exploring their characters a bit more. To be honest I am a fan of the on-off relationship, but it is more so because of the great potential it has, as opposed to what it has actually done. MK11 story did a bit for Baraka, but their are a few nitpicks such as him holding Jade in high regard despite not being present for her fight with Kotal. Wish he got his own chapter to be honest.

I actually have another idea for Reptile. In the Mortal Kombat 4 comic, I would have Reptile regret some of the things he’s done in the past 3 games even know he was helping outworld so that way he can get is race revived and went to Sindel out for help and convinces Reptile to hope the good side and that his race would still be there in his spirit,sort of reminiscent to Kitana helping Baraka in Mortal Kombat 11.

I think it’d be pretty cool if Reptile finds his people, that his move set reflected that. They can repurpose some TMNT assets and have Reptile be a leader of a squad calling in camouflaged Zatterans waiting in the wings to strike. Might be a bit reminiscent of Annihilation with multiple Reptiles fighting one dude but I prefer to see it more like the Velociraptors from Jurassic Park and how they’re clever pack hunters.

To my understanding the Saurians originated from Earthrealm and only migrated to Zaterra after the fact. This raises the question of who was in Zaterra beforehand. Im going to merge a couple races to all come from one realm to give a set number of realms of around 8, instead of just making up new ones in the 10th game. In my version the Osh-Tekk are from Zaterra. The Osh-Tekk land is described as rich with gold so this could explain the Osh-Tekks royalty status. This shared realm could deepen Reptile and Kotal's relationship as they bond over both their races being wiped out, or so Reptile thinks.

My idea for Reptile comes from the second part of the MKX comics that never saw the light of day, involving Goro becoming possessed by Onaga but retaining his consciousness and only having Onaga's regenerative abilities and wings. What if Reptile had that too? What if, when he becomes possessed by Onaga, he also gains Onaga's memories and becomes aware of the fact that Raiden and Shinnok were responsible for the decimation of his people? Then maybe he'd want to become the One Being to wipe out the elder gods since one of them were the reason his people are gone? That's just my idea, though.

One of the most underrated fighting game characters in history is Darkstalkers Rikuo. His entire family is wiped out until he finds a wife, Aqueria, only for their son to be kidnapped in DS3 forcing Rikuo to not only find his son, but comfront the issues of how can he expect to lead his people if he loses them. In the end he finds more people like him and spends his life searching for survivors. I feel something similar could've been done for reptile. He could've been a noble, insecure hero looking for people like him, not a cool looking jobber.

Since MK4, I always viewed Reptile as a bad guy who fights for a good reason, if it makes sense? He lost his homeworld and people and has served Shao Kahn, Shinnok, and the Deadly Alliance in a vain attempt to have them restore them, much like Scorpion did. But unlike Scorpion, Reptile gets the shit kicked out of him with NO regard for his loyalty or desire to simply reunite with the Zatterans.

Personally, the way I would've done Reptile was to keep the thing that originally made people like him: His mystique. Have him still be in the story, not too present, but not as some goon or jobber. Keep a vaguely humanoid design, human with reptilian eyes underneath his costume update that he got in MK9. He rarely talks, alternating between regular speech and strange growls, his body shifting and warping underneath his clothing for just split seconds during his intro animations. And for some of his attack animations, he transforms his head into a reptile one for his acid attacks, just like his original fatality. All he needs to be for the MK1-3 era is that he's an assassin (The greatest assassin from outworld, in fact) hired by Shang Tsung used to kill any fighters in Mortal Kombat not killed by their opponent. He's a shapeshifter like Shang, but can naturally shapeshift due to his biology between man and reptile. For the game itself i'd honestly keep him as a secret bossfight for the tower mode, with a similar unlock method to his MK1 form. Maybe with his story modes or appearances in the followup games can you give him more story, perhaps going in a completely different direction from his Old Timeline version. I do like the idea that Reptile became something almost like a friend to Shang Tsung, despite just being used as an over glorified cleanup guy, and his stories for later games could go over what he decides to do after Shang dies.

My idea for a new take on Reptile would be to have him not be the last Saurian, but the only intelligent one. Raiden and Shinnok's duel would cause enough destruction that it destroyed Saurian's advanced society, and while they would repopulate the species would devolve into feral brutes in the process. Reptile would be hatched and considered a waste of space by the other Saurians due to him being smaller and not as physically powerful as the majority of the others, which would lead to him being ostracized and trying to compensate. Eventually, he would start to attempt to gain an advantage over the other saurians by becoming more intelligent than them, leading to him finding and studying old Saurian records. Reptile would use the records to enhance his intelligence and skill, while also discovering recessive abilities thought to be lost to the saurians such as invisibility and acidic fumes/spit. . He would then challenge the king/emperor of the Saurians, proving to the others that refined skill and intelligence were superior to raw strength. He would then rule the other Saurians, as the others would still struggle to reach his level of intelligence. Eventually he would compete in Mortal Kombat due to the Tarkatans and Saurians having a war that left both sides weakened enough that Shao's main forces could force both into submission. This entire idea was thought because I saw an old 2010 meme with that philosophical raptor.

Soon, realizing Not only was he played for cheap politics to destabilize Shao kahn's relation with the Lin kuei with the Yellow Cyborgs in chunks but now he also has the entire cult metal bodied ninjas hunting him which the KireHashi is disadvantaged against (Not really, but its a drama scene). Standing humiliated at the peak of his folly, Reptile chooses to end his life with the blade with a Hara'kiri. When he starts gaining conscious, little by little, he does so in witness of the now soul bound, Kire'Hashi, dancing, the dance of death to the song of Reptiles Primitive rage leaving behind a sea of demon corpses in the audienced to an amused Shin'nok mooning over the bloody ballet of the Kire'Hashi Blade. In MK5, he follows Nitara into the chamber of the dragon egg for payback but the blade starts absorbing the dragon eggs energy and Onaga takes over his body. With the egg gone, the lava flows off the ducts and Nitara raises the orbs and breaks it on the ground and peace outs with her realm. . . . Cleaver girl . . . . End Of Chapter.

In the version of MK11 with the tournament plot Reptile could become a top tier fighter in the tournament thanks to his training by Bo Rai Cho maybe not getting to the finals as he has been a jobber the whole trilogy, or he does get to the finals against buffed up Scorpion(thanks to Raiden) who then beats Reptile. During the tournament the story can emphasize the relationship between Reptile and Kotal aswell.
