Great video. I have 5 tiger salamanders, in a 48"X18" terrarium, with doors that slide on each side. I have a land side, and a water side, separated with a cork log. If you keep the water shallow, about 2", they will swim a bit, or just hang out in the water. I tried sprigtails years ago, and they do a great job keeping the tank clean. I have been using New Zealand sphagnum moss for years, love it, and it's mold resistant.

Really appreciate this video! Trying to learn how to help keep this new roommate not only alive but happy and healthy! Love the suggestion of Springtails! Do you find that they ever worm their way out of the container and become a nuisance elsewhere? I have a large terrarium with Eco Earth and would very much be interested in these helpful critters. Additionally, I had been told that they love earthworms and that these are a great food source. I definitely am thankful I stumbled across this in my first week on this amphibian adventure, I will be seeking out some insects to help supplement Sally's food source! Thanks tons!

Earthworms are actually suited perfectly nutrition-wise for tiger salamanders, and most salamanders really. They're quite nutritious and their calcium to phosphorus ratio is perfect, while crickets and other common feeder insects require calcium dusting and other vitamin dusting. The caudata site has a whole page detailing salamander nutrition; the site in general is a great resource for this information. The information you're giving for their diet sounds more like something suited to leopard geckos.
@reptiliangarden6 жыл бұрын
Nioa Thank you so much! I’ll check that out because I’ve always heard the earthworms aren’t has nutritious, so I use other insects instead.
