Republic P-47 Thunderbolt Razorback Start Up Taxi & Takeoff From The Hayward Executive Airport in Hayward California HWD
Oh ya... There was a P-51 Mustang as a chase plane.
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was a World War II era fighter aircraft produced by the United States from 1941 through 1945. Its primary armament was eight .50-caliber machine guns and in the fighter-bomber ground-attack role it could carry five-inch rockets or a bomb load of 2,500 pounds (1,103 kg). When fully loaded the P-47 weighed up to eight tons (tonnes) making it one of the heaviest fighters of the war. The P-47 was designed around the powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine which was also used by two U.S. Navy fighters, the Grumman F6F Hellcat and the Vought F4U Corsair. The Thunderbolt was effective as a short-to-medium range escort fighter in high-altitude air-to-air combat and ground attack in both the World War II European and Pacific theaters.
The P-47 was one of the main United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) fighters of World War II, and served with Allied air forces including France, Britain, and Russia. Mexican and Brazilian squadrons fighting alongside the U.S. also flew the P-47.
The armored cockpit was relatively roomy and comfortable, the bubble canopy introduced on the P-47D in particular offering good visibility. A present-day U.S. ground-attack aircraft, the Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II, takes its name from the P-47.

An awesome aircraft. One that was designed around the huge Pratt and Whitney radial engine. It's unfortunate that the other plane started its engine shortly before the P47 started its engine. Still a good video. Thank you for this.

Her eight .50 cal machine guns gave the plane some real presence over the enemy, I bet the P-47 used to shred Me109's into confetti.

Like in 1944 - Thunderbolt is clearing the path for Mustang. BTW - P-51 looks here a bit like a fancy groopie for a heavy weight boxer. ;)

Wow the Pratt and Whitney sound is polluted by the obnoxious start up of some random local puddle jumper

Good Lord the P-51, which was my Dads favorite, looks puny, compared to the JUG!
@TheAttacker732
@TheAttacker732 Жыл бұрын
Well, the Jug was almost half again as heavy as the Mustang... 10,000lbs empty/17,500lbs max takeoff vs 7,635lbs empty/12,100lbs max takeoff. Plus, the Jug is *still* big compared to most single-piston-engine aircraft.

there was only 1 Jug...Bobby Johnson said there was not a fighter plane in the entire ETO inventory that could hang with his Thunderbolts paddleblade propeller in a zoom climb including even the legendary Spitfire, oh and a great view of the rear exhaust of the 51s jetlike radiator system that added 40-mph to its top speed.

@danraymond1253
@danraymond1253 2 жыл бұрын
@@davidduganne5939 it's not the P-51 starting up in the beginning, it's another radial. The Merlin engine has a very distinct "putt-putt" sound, the sound of the first engine starting up was much more airy and hefty sounding, like a radial. It was likely another R-2800.

The flyover path got altered flying in northwest towards Cypress over Hwy 249. 100's of viewers were disappointed. We expected the flyover to cross from the southeast over 249 @ Cypresswood. Instead we could barely see them as they flew from the south far west of us. Then we saw the reason why. I commercial airline A380 approached from the north for landing at Bush. How come the pilots did not know this ahead of time ?

Which P-47 is this? Do they all have the turbocharging systems disconnected?
@aquablue6301
@aquablue6301 3 жыл бұрын
@Johan I believe it's a C model, a razorback. The D models had a bubble canopy and cut- down fuselage aft of the cockpit. There's no smoke from the rear tailpipe under the plane, so its not likely that the turbo supercharging system is intact.
@sigma804
