"Male GOP candidates who are worried about getting dragged down by the abortion issue in November are putting their wives front and center in their campaign ads. That’s hardly a new phenomenon - candidates have showcased the stereotypical [husband + wife + at least two children + probably a dog or two] family photo for ages - but the Republican angst about Dobbs is so acute, at least one candidate resorted to faking an entire family for his ads.
A Friday article at The New York Times, headlined “G.O.P. Candidates, Looking to Soften Their Image, Turn to Their Wives,” reported how “male Republicans struggling to appeal to female voters concerned about their records on reproductive rights are unleashing their spouses to make the pitch on their behalf.”"

I also think this is a societal statement on people who are accepted when running for office. That being married with kids isn't necessarily a qualifying attribute, but not having them is a disqualifier. Not always, of course. But I'm willing to bet that nuclear family candidates are over represented in political offices compared to single people.

Advertising of all sorts is artifice ordinarily shaped by scripting and casting for emotional resonance rather than literal denotation. A similar recent case was a Canadian politician’s TV ad chock full of beautiful landscapes not in Canada (though the theme was easily taken as implying that they were Canadian). It’s an enterprise not exceptionally, but rather comprehensively, of mood music, not scrupulous factual presentation. To feign a sudden shocking realization is at best to present yourselves as incredibly naive. The fastidious pearl clutching however is also plainly hypocritical given TYT’s routine resorts - especially Ana’s unscrupulous behavior with far more serious consequences.
