She was direct and her "from taxes" answer was exactly what he wanted to hear. He got his sound byte. I might be wrong in why he didn't interrupt her, but direct answers followed by relevant context is more plausible, and more useful for how to elicit similar reactions in the future, than "put an intelligent, professional, beautiful and eloquent women in front of him and he'll shut up," especially since he's almost certainly been faced with plenty of others who fit the bill and not been stunned into silence by their virtues.

@Larry Trickle down economics is the idea championed by utter fkn morons who also hold (at least the ones I've interacted with) firmly the belief - that those born into _not_ relative wealth and privilege, only have themselves to blame for lacking wealth and privilege. With that is the idea that any social safety nets and systems for universally accessible higher education, vocational training, paid parental leave, regular health checks, or community outreach programs, are imprudent government expenditures, unconnected to its economy, and properly viewed, are outside of the government's purview anyway. So, gutting that sht should be the goal. They are essentially advocating for a shitty version of feudalism, that can not work in any way in modern society. The modern day fiefs are massive corporations and their owners, from whom all the wealth will truckle. However, the modern fiefdom of a corporation and its owners aren't actually contributing to the royal coffers by paying their share taxes, as fiefdoms of old did, but they do enjoy the privileges and status of such fiefdoms. There is also the fact that almost all of them outsource their actual manufacturing processes now, rather than generating and sustaining localized economies... But that is besides the point. Trickle down economics is what truly stupid, shortsighted mega-rich dikwads push for, and is what truly stupid, shortsighted people who confuse the silver spoon of those dikwads for knowledgeable insight and earned privilege.

There’s no excuse. They’re children. You want to put work requirements for that? I know plenty of Republicans in red states do. The worst part? It isn’t even beneficial to businesses. Their supposed “pro-business” “smart” economic reasoning falls apart when you realize that this isn’t how macroeconomics work. To put it simply, anti-poverty legislation is pro-business. And the economy was generally better, current moment aside. The tax structure during WWII placed the marginal tax at around 93%. This was continued into 1965. In that time economic growth was high and with distribution/ disparity was far mor equitable. Families could buy homes and education costs were far more reasonable. Ending the WWII tax tax structure was part of the Democratic to do list and it was accomplished. Meanwhile investment in the War in Vietnam, going to the moon, the arms race, as well as the Great Society with Medicare, Medicaid, and a crazy welfare system began to affect the deficits and debt. Add to that the oil crisis of 1973 and by 1974 the U.S. was in a stagflation situation. High marginal taxes establishes a progressive tax structure that nevertheless allows for affluence without wretched excess. But that was never enough for the rapacious and greedy uber-wealthy.

Yes minimum wage for elected officials and insist, even if they protest, that it is a living wage. Outlaw lobbyists, and limit terms. Lawyers as legislative aides, not as elected officials.

Estate exemption is $13 million and I think it doubled for married couples. That means that your estate doesn't have to pay taxes unless it exceeds $13 million...

The Majority Report needs to step up their research game. But still, great video.

I'm sure Democrats would be open to arguments to increase that exemption for specific cases, for things like family farms, if that's really necessary, too.

The estate tax is for transfer of estate by inheritance. Estates will still pay taxes they just aren't taxed up until the quota when someone inherits an estate

WOW! I am blown away by most of the responses in the comments here. Where in the Constitution does it say "government, federal, state or local is supposed to be responsible for taking care of, i.e. feeding, clothing, housing, insuring or babysitting THE PEOPLE"? Where does it say that?!? Where does it say that someone who has built a business from scratch and hard work with successes and failures on the way up should pay higher taxes to pay for others who DON'T want to work as hard? Where does it say that if you CHOOSE to spread your legs and get pregnant, your no longer responsible for the consequences? Tell me, WHERE does it say that if you CHOOSE to run up hundreds of thousands of dollars in student debt you are no longer responsible, don't worry about it? When are WE, individuals, responsible for the choices WE make? YES, I will admit that the costs of child daycare are expensive and the cost to feed a family is expensive. How about just stop and look around your area. Do you see people living in low income housing driving new cars? Do you see them carrying six packs or 12 packs home on a regular? If you were having problems feeding your family, would you be driving a new car and making payments? We ALL have choices! Choose wrong and SOMEONE SUFFERS!

When is GOP gonna admit that tax cuts are repayment for campaign contributions?

Whilst the reality is overseas we do pay higher taxes, we also end up with higher wages due to productivity gains. Generally speaking, we have for example: 1) heavily subsidies child care so more people can work, 2) universal health care (including mental health) so people can be treated and get back to work, 3) a social security net for unemployed people so they can get back to work. 4) lots of investment in infrastructure so people don't get stuck in traffic or just die trying to get to work because of a collapsed bridge, 5) paternity and maternity leave so people can care for their babies after birth and remain employed, and 6) family benefits paid to average and lower income families to make sure they all get the essentials and keeps children in the running to succeed in life. These things actually pay for themselves, and make people happier, healthier, and more productive. The argument that everyone will be free loafers is a distraction. There inevitably there will be some, but the vast majority of people want a decent income, so they will go back to work when they can. I rarely use the universal health care system, but gladly pay into it so others will have a better life.

Look... You've got it all wrong. We've made abortion illegal to force growth of the labor pool, brought back child labor to solve the child care delimma, destroyed public education to eradicate critical thinking on the part of the masses, legislated christo-fascist dogma into every curriculum , gerrymandered in rule by minority and deregulated all the really dangerous jobs so that the working class will be completely ignorant of their plight, politically powerless, disposable and replaceable. It's just a different system is all. ... ... What?

Well Kennedy, i can sum up the "social good" that those tax cuts have done in a single sentence. Wealth has been transferred out of the middle class and into the upper class.

She was great! Pointing out that the two tax breaks have done nothing for the average American voter. Please, Republicans, vote these people out of office. Or, even better, vote for a Democrat.
