I keep telling people that the reason we have trump again is because the Democrats refuse to run a left-wing populist for obvious reasons. They could have won if they made Walz the candidate or Sanders. There is no way that no democratic strategists, etc. don't understand this. I'm not some genius. Walz could have TROUNCED Trump. But Democratic elites are high on their own supply.

@@TheHesseJamesWhat Democratic elites seem to be unable to understand is that people can come to other conclusions than they do. Their answer to every loss is that the people don't properly understand. Blame it on the voters. But wtf sense does that make in a democracy? But they are running on "save democracy". They did that last time. I mean, did Harris even explicitly pick up any of Biden's unkept promises?

I haven't watched the video yet as I'm writing this, but that title irks me. We never "overcame" the problems ushered in during the 70's onwards under guys like Reagan and Bush (who were more the figureheads rather than the sole causes of our struggles), we're still dealing with them. It's just that it's been so subtle/insidious that the system they upheld has become the visual norm. The bits of progress we made so far since then is still not enough.

There has always been an oligarchy. What distinguishes today is that firstly, the Oligarchs seem to have forgotten that the lower classes are SHEEP, and not CATTLE. The difference is that sheep are key alive and nurtured, so the shepherd can harvest the wool. Cattle are slaughtered. The oligarchs in their greed have started to care less and less about the well being of their flock. They never cared about the flock, to be clear, but they did recognize and value the wool, and thus cared for the sheep out of self interest. Secondly, the oligarchs have more power than ever before. Their control of social media cannot be overestimated in it's utility for social control of aggregate populations. It got Trump elected. And it's not just social media. The ruling class today control security services that are effectively small private army cadres that can 'rent' foot soldiers from the public security forces (national guard, police) to protect the capital class. More than this, the ruling classes today are transnational in their source of wealth and power. Gone are the days when a robber baron could be wiped out by s strike, nowadays they gain their power wth financial instruments that are immune to attack. It has become immensely more difficult for those NOT in the ruling class to effectively resist, refuse, or even avoid the demands of the ruling class. Meaningful non violent resistance has become far more difficult and far less effective. The law more than ever enables the ruling class, but binds the working class. Thirdly, oligarchy is best overturned by attack from outside. But today's oligarchs are transnational, there IS no 'outside' for an invading army to come from. This time, The victims of the oligarchy will have to rise without outside help. We will have to over come the effective brainwashing of social media, the drag of fearful complacency, the class traitors who will support the oligarchy for their thirty pieces of silver, and the rational fears of those who know any resistance will lead to their probably impoverishment, their likely execution, and the subsequent ruination of their families. It is hard to be the one to stick their head out when the consequences are so severe and the chance of victory so slim. I am old and nearly dead, and my generation is the one that left you all screwed over. I wish you all luck, but I would be lying if I said I thought much of your chances.

@charlesparr1611

@@colonialstraits1069Oh, we tried. I am not ashamed of my effort, I gave my best, I protested, I boycotted, I marched, I participated in Direct action, and I punched quite a few Nazis. I bled, I got bruises, I risked life and limb, I suffered legally and economically. I will die poor because I was blacklisted for anti racist action in a very racist area and a largely racist occupation (construction). I did what was right and it cost me dearly. It would have been nice to at least be poor and hurting BUT victorious. That is not the case. The thing is that while I am not ashamed of my own efforts, the fact remains that too few of my generation ever fought, too many were actively complicit class traitors, and in the end those of us who did fight, lost. And we knew we were losing the whole time. We watched it happen, no matter hw hard we fought it was never enough. You're right, it isn't the fault of those of us who fought that we failed. But we did fail. It was our responsibility to hand on a better world than we were born into, and instead we have saddled the next generation with a world and a political reality that is worse in every single way than the one we were born into. Inequality is worse than ever before, democracy has never been less prevalent or more threatened. The few advances we made, women rights, anti-racism, anti-fascism have been erased by the rise of the oligarchs, used as manipulative memes to enslave the right and the centre, and to confuse the left. Everything I fought and bled for is now called 'woke' and denigrated by those that (briefly) benefited from, who then allowed it to be taken from them without a fight by the simple age old distraction employed by the ruling class for thousands of years: "Lets you and him fight!', as they paid one half of the working class to fight the other half and laughed from their wine cellars and sixth homes and third yachts.

It is not the same. See discussion of immigration politics at 2:45. Often the Majority Report points out disjunctures between popular policies and what the corporate- and elite- influencedDemocratic Party does in practice. But in this case, the Majority Report is not taking seriously the reality of public opinion polling on immigration. A Siena College poll of early December found that 54% of registered New York State voters said that "New York State should support the federal government's efforts to deport migrants." Only 35% said the State should oppose those efforts. New York is a deep-blue, Democratic state.

But you are also leaving out that another poll says that a majority when given an alternative to giving them citizenship status even more popular. Stop being dishonest by only painting a narrative that there is only one option

Question for anyone that has a good line on cross border oil sales. If 52% of petroleum (60% of crude) imports to the US has a 25% tariff on it, how bad would a 25% export tax that the producers will charge direct to the customer, affect oil prices and general inflation?

The libs and even some leftists are going to need to accept that there's going to be (hopefully) resistance that isn't going to be very pretty. We're going to need to be prepared to permit or support some things that you may not find morally acceptable. This Mangione thing gives me a little hope.

Anything past that seems to get the scorn of most people who fancy themselves progressive. It doesn't matter if you are or are not correct.

I was working at Fentons in Toronto when I heard Mimi (who later cooked for musical legends when she bloody well felt like it) exclaim: "He's a "B" list actor!" That's how I knew Ronnie was a problem. Dunno how she forgot the old "affix bayonets" order by Governor Reagan in order to handle harmless hippy peace protesters some ten years earlier.

Not true, you had it in effect for generations. Now it has just gotten completely obvious because they do not even need to hide it after it got to big to fail. In my opinion it got to big to fail when you defunded NASA and privatized the ability to put satelites. Musk can not be removed now, without the goverment taking his company and that is never going to happen in capitalist USA .He has to many progams they need so he dictates the terms.

Okay so what you are saying is the typical kiss up leftist response,, this is what i have learned over the years from being involved in liberal or leftist activism. You guys will respond to your own system with aggression, yet your actually opposition you talk about digging in for ten years and slowly chipping away. However in that 10 year period you will bow, you will chip away at democracy yourselves. Yet if it comes to Israel, you attach yourself without questioning, this helped MAGA. There are two areas of focus that comes to mind when thinking of future resistance here in America, or three if you include Trump, yet these three areas of focus are MAGA, they make up and feed the MAGA monster.
