Welcome back! Sad to hear you got sick. Now, Darren, since you asked for feedback, here comes the wall of text. Two main issues separately: traffic in general and highways. Your local traffic problem boils down to the same issue I talked about way back around the first 3 or 4 episodes. Cities Skylines benefits so much from separation mechanically. Separating pedestrians, private car, cargo car, public transport -- from each other. The extremes of this work incredibly well, but are highly unrealistic. Still, there are ways to make use of those mechanics without sacrificing too much of realism. It is all about figuring out the flow, which you always had the right idea about, Darren. But thinking in 3 dimensions will improve it. And over the course of this let's play you have started to do just that. Look at the airport: you have a road that is for buses only right next to the road that is for other traffic. That's the key. Find ways to direct specific traffic where it is needed without mixing it with the other kinds of traffic. Really good example of this would be creating separate industrial road networks around cargo terminals and feeding a cargo-only road to the back of commercial zone and placing pedestrian bridges/tunnels for people to get to work or move through without road crossings or traffic lights. Yes, that kind of setup would not look realistic in the middle of downtown, but it can be used elsewhere. Very specifically "Cargo transfer points" as I call it -- places where cargo gets transferred from one type of vehicle to another. You have already moved in that direction yourself. With that redesign at the beginning of the episode. But you are still underestimating the problems of generating trucks and cars. Crematoriums and park rangers should have never been in that same area. Just put the crematoriums all together over in that one spot, make a big landmark out of it, like Arlington Cemetery. Put the Park Rangers where the trail up the peninsula mountain is. About the highway/freeway situation: it is the same solution as with the general traffic -- separation. Darren, it doesn't have to be just the highway. There could be a highway and there could be another road right next to each other. Elevation exists. Tunnels exist. With big road networks you have to think in 3 dimensions. Now, what I would do to is to build another highway along the coast but not on the coast. Elevate it, maybe place it next to the road you have already. Then maybe along the river to connect back to the main highway. The trick is to understand that a highway doesn't have to have many connections to the urban road network. That's the point of the highway -- to be fast and direct without sitting at every crossing. You can stretch a highway through half the outskirts of the city and only give it one extra interchange and it still would me a good highway. Imo, the best integration of a highway would be this. 1) Split the main highway on the far west side of the map, take the new fort to go along the coast. 2) Stretch that highway all the way along the coast, across the thin part of the peninsula, then with a bridge over the mouth of the river. 3) Use high elevation to stretch it along the Shoreline industrial road and then to the hill where the metro/train tracks are. 4) Past the metro tracks it will do a smooth bend south to go over the river with another bridge and then connect with the main highway again. This way you'll have the option to build interchanges and off ramps in at least 2 or 3 places and it will be a great highway. And the elevation will allow parallel operation with already developed urban network. If you want a visual of what it could look like search for Davao City coastal road project in the Philippines. That's the closes rea life visual of what I am imagining. Another thing about highways, roads and interchanges. I get that making these is a skill most of us, long-term Cities players have developed over years and years and you just can not pick it up right away. That is understandable and no one should be unhappy about that. It is cool, Darren, really. What I think you can do instead of watching videos and practicing is just get some interchanges imported. I highly recommend Timboh's Marvelous Interchange Emporium on the Steam Workshop. They made a ton of different and interesting and functional interchanges that all work without any need for mods. Just grab that collection and look through it. See what interchanges would work where, mix and match to your heart's delight. I have thousands of hours in Cities Skylines. I can not imagine any of the players like me would ever, ever blame or be unhappy with you for using pre-made interchanges instead of trying to grind the skills to make them yourself. Okay, and final suggestion I have for you now that you reached the final milestone is this: Carefully look through the Monuments and the requirements. What the monuments are and how they look like and what they do and what the requirements in turn do and look like, their size and function -- that will be the best way to inform your progression with this city. You have good base foundation now. This is the time to start planning in advance. Those things will give you the inspiration to envision the rest of the city and what it will need. That's is. Hope this wall of text in feedback will be helpful. Till the next wonderful episode! Cheers!

Loving this series and finally getting caught up! You mentioned that highways go into the center of American cities and, as someone who has lived in these cities, I can tell you that it may alleviate traffic, it completely destroys the city. They're divided up by the highway and become unwalkable. You also mentioned in a previous episode about the high number of people working in your office buildings. I think the game has too few people working in these buildings. I work in an office tower that is not that big, about 30 stories, and it has more than 4,000 people working in it.

Yeah while the numbers are increased from the base game with the population mod, but its nowhere near real life numbers. Would be interesting to try actually simulate what happens in a real city

Sorry to hear that! I think I actually had it too! I caught it in 2022 for the first time, and this time my symptoms were very similar but just a bit milder. But it lingered for a long time.

If you delete the building that has wrong kind of work force it might queue new people to work when next building grows

If crematoriums have a positive effect on living-quarters and that's also the area where they are needed (mostly?).....why would you place them in an industry district?

A harmonic developement is always pleasing to the eye. I like very much your way to combine progression, beautification, city planning, and the way you "use" DLSc, it's a good mix of everything. Thank you for the quality content.

i dont think you need to worry about a highway/freeway until your city gets even bigger. it seems like most of your traffic issues are with the local roads rather than between areas, i.e industrial, to urban to suburban etc. but i think you could realistically create a highway loop, it would just need to be tunneled underground in certain areas.

I'm not sure if you mention it in the video later, but just to make sure you don't miss it (I'm just 8 minutes in): For your cargo traffic please keep in mind that it tends to take the quickest route for any given good. So if your train line is too long, traffic might decide to take the trucks instead. I'm not sure if that's the case in your city, just thought to mention it. Keep up the good work, really enjoy this series. Also I am glad to see Satisfactory back on the channel, can't wait for the new stuff!

I once tried a mod called "You're Fired" which solved this problem. When a building levels up, the workers from the previous level stay there and this building will abandon. Quite frankly it's a bug that was never fixed

So, you built the most "Bates Motel" looking Motel you could find and placed it on top of an old cemetery? You're just asking for trouble. 🤣👻

How about trying the easiest highway interchange. Build a road over the highway from the city towards the airport and add ramps with intersections. Or use a pre build cloverleaf.

There really should be a pederstrian bridge between the suburbs and down town, they have to walk much longer without it.

I wouldn't worry about unlocking the monuments so much. Some people consider using them cheating because one monument building eliminates the entire city's need for corresponding services.

Do You have appropriate housing near by the jobs? You have Highly educated workers commuting across the map to work at a farm or factory. Is there any housing near by the farms and factories where Dumb people can live? I haven't watched this series in a while. But, I recall building it in pieces, trying to push population #'s.... That would disproportionately affect job markets. I wonder if having housing near by, tear the building down and rebuild it would reset the job market
