"She took me to the pokemon store or the sex shop, I don't remember which one it was" Wow. Japan must be the weirdest place on the universe for you not to remember the difference between a pokemon store and a sex shop.

I can relate. When I was much younger I met a girl...and I liked her... A LOT. She knew this. I got constant invites from her to visit her at her house. We would always go out to watch movies, or go to the beach...or a pub... Nothing ever happened between us. She knew I liked her and wanted more, but she never addressed the issue. Always led me on...a promise of something more. Then , one day, she asks me to stop at a "friend's" place. It turns out it is a married guy she was having an affair with. I felt like a fucking idiot. Holding out for her, spending time with her...and every single day that goes past there's that promise...but nothing ever happens. It took me exploding with rage the one day after she pissed on my heart for the umpteenth time for her to realize that our time together has come to an end. Years later, when she found out I was engaged, she contacted me out of the blue looking to hook up. During that phone conversation she told me she has always felt bad for how she treated me and she realized she missed out on a great guy. Wanted to know if I will take her if she was willing to give herself to me. At that point I have evolved already. Told her to fuck right off and if she ever called me again I will sick my would-be-wife on her with every she has.

+CarefulAtheist It's all a big power game with this kind of person. They always want what they can't or shouldn't have, and love wrecking other people's lives to make themselves feel good. One of my family members was cheated on by his first wife, and his supposed *cough* best friend. When the marriage hit the skids and ended in divorce, skank and scumbag were doing the happy happy, but still after all that, skank tried to act all friendly toward my family member whose heart she had torn to pieces. *Scowl* My family member did find a new love, got married, and is married to her still. But I still can't help wondering why they hadn't met in the first place instead of that first wench who wasted a decade of his and our lives with her presence.

I think what most people don't understand is that even good-hearted people can hold grudges and feel resentment towards someone when they've been gravely hurt by them. Especially since empaths tend to push their own needs and feelings aside in order to assist the ones they care about, when that tremendous effort that they put in trying to help someone is taken for granted, or even worse disregarded, when they realize that they are being taken advantage of they can go from 100% to 0% in the blink of an eye. I think it is quite obvious that Daniel is a person who feels deeply and overthinks in general, so it is not surprising to me, and neither worthy of judgement that he would call this ex-friend of his a "bitch" and display such resentment towards her. She was using him for her own benefit, practically getting an ego boost by knowing that he liked her romantically, and she played him along when she obviously had no such feelings for him whatsoever. A lot of people have called Daniel a hypocrite, which I find really ignorant; he is just a human being like all of us, and a deeply kind-hearted human being, despite his honesty sometimes coming across as harsh. Think about it: Would you rather have a friend/partner that is kissing your ass while half of the time not believing a word of what they're saying so that they may not hurt your feelings, or someone who tells you the truth in your face, even if painful to hear? I would go for the second one any day. And I personally believe Daniel Sulzbach is a really warm-hearted, good person that only supports love and justice passionately. That is all. Thank you for your wonderful videos and support, Daniel. I discovered you years ago and still follow your KZbin channel to this day. You give me much, much hope for the human race. Have a wonderful life and, good goat, please, realize that you are a wonderful person!

1:30 The trick toxic people use to always say little about themselves while asking questions about the stuff you mention. 2:29 This is a continuation of their mirroring tactic. The truth is they don't understand the emotional connections you have to something, only the superficial side of you wanting things. 4:00 Toxic people use non-commital answers to trick people into entangling themselves into material, social or financial situations that make one look incompetent. 5:10 Casually shattering someone's dreams is something toxic people do for fun. They will almost always do this to ruin something that you had planned. This is to psychologically associate humiliation with fun activities. 6:40 Rarely are there explanations for bad behaviour. The awkward responses you get are thrown-together rememberances of things they heard other people say. 7:52 You'd already told her enough things you were interested in, you just didn't count on her catalouging these things. 8:20 These people will keep baiting you to join them in different social situations, especially when there's no more investment than hitting "Send to all" on an invite. 9:29 With little to no empathy the idea of being under any influence is simply a matter of personal preference. 11:36 The only kind of people who "like" being around toxic people are either as toxic as them or are cynical enough to exploit anyone and do anything to make that happen. 13:15 Toxic people ALWAYS have a past of broken relationships. Scratch their history and they spill out. 14:53 This is called "narcisisstic supply". When a narcisist has it cut off or compromised they will do whatever it takes to get more, and I mean anything. 16:06 This is called conditioning to make you think your ideas are worthless or harmful. This masks them being unable to create anything, and unwilling to experiment with something that doesn't please them directly. 16:24 She was fishing for details to replicate the things you like so you might think she's more interesting than your current partner. 16:52 She's inviting you to infidelity. If she'd been in more contact with your partner she might have claimed as much by describing details of your bathroom. 17:40 This is a type of "gas-lighting" I've seen many times. The toxic person will stay around untill after either a closing time or people are tired of them. They then get a thrill from either lying or bullying their way into staying late or not leaving at all. 20:42 The sudden, impulsive trip is an old tactic. This is used by toxic people to take you away from your support base and to make their victim seem ungreatful when they ask for something improper and are turned down. This can also be the toxic person prospecting for a new narcissistic supply. 22:35 Like that. 24:40 First of all she had this planned, so don't feel bad. If it wasn't this, she'd done something else. Secondly, this is EXACTLY what I meant by compromising narcissistic supply bringing out the worst in people. 25:53 The thing to do from the start is cut toxic people off totally. "No contact ever again". 26:49 You don't even notice it once they do it often enough. A.G.

Excellent play-by-play. I always forget that there are plenty of coined terms to describe these behaviors. Once I went on a date with a guy who is real-life version of B.D. Wong's character in Law & Order. He was depressed, his whole life was in shambles, he seemingly did not know it. Mental health is important. I take a long while to evaluate general stability of a potential partner. He is brilliant. He did not pass. I am glad I do not live in the same city LOL

AussieGriffin Yes Dr. George Huang was my favorite character. Someone being a polished well regarded expert in a field should not prevent anyone from doing due diligence. I once sent a con artist to jail because all the teenagers thought he was a guy with a rich mafia dad and a dead mom. I proved this as false and he was just stealing all their minimum wage paychecks to tip barmaids and swindle THEM out of their paychecks. Toxic people (criminal or just annoying) use image a lot as a means of confusing the people they mesmerize.

Holy crap, I recognise this pattern of behaviour. I had a friend like that a while ago that I cut out because she constantly tried to drag the people around her down because she couldn't make anything in her own life work on her terms. Long of the short, I had known her pretty much my whole life, nothing romantic happened between us. I watched over the years how she'd lead guys on and put her friends down, but for the most part I was insulated from it because I lived an hour away. Not a heavy social media user, so didn't even see the SJW virtue signalling all over that until ages after it started happening, would have been a bit of a hint as to what was to come. Anyway, got myself a gf, and we got pretty serious pretty quickly because we just completely clicked, similar to what you said happened with your missus. Still together after 2 and a half years, in fact, and thinking about tying the knot at some point. Anyhow, I got really busy at work, I'm talking 50-60 hour weeks for a month straight, including weekends. Got a really aggressive message from my friend chewing me out about spending too much time with my gf and that I should be online more to talk to her. I cracked the shits and immediately blocked her, I'd seen her pull this shit before and wasn't having any of it. Also burned bridges with the people she'd introduced me to, they were mostly unemployed layabouts that wanted to blame everyone but themselves for their situations as well. Looked her up a little while ago, she's still on twitter whinging about problems I know she has because she can't commit to anything for longer than a month. Scrolled back on her twitter and saw her bitching about my girlfriend too, that part really cemented in my mind that I'd made the right choice.

If Daniel's experience resonates with you in any way, I encourage you to read "Why is it Always About You?: The Seven Deadly Sins of Narcissism" written by Sandy Hotchkiss. This book defines true narcissism and explains the differences between true narcissists and those who have developed healthy narcissism. Hotchkiss offers solid advice on how to strategically deal with a true narcissist in their respective role in your life (i.e. parents, friends, coworkers, romantic interests, etc.). It's a really easy read and the content it so helpful! My father was a true narcissist and an alcoholic; when I read this book for the first time, I felt as though it was written about him! It helped me understand him better and gave me the courage to break the cycle of insanity he had created and keep our family trapped in. I hope everyone stays well!!!

I have a gorgeous friend that would constantly attempt to use me, or act interested only when I was in a serious relationship and it became a game of sorts to see how far I could stretch her expectations and ultimately cancel them. In the end she is alone, but more mature now. She taught me a powerful lesson of emotional leverage early in life, which was invaluable. I'm just saying, you're young and it takes experiences, and making mistakes, to grow our character and learn about life, others and ourselves. It's called gaining life experience. I had a toxic friendship when I still went to boarding school. I was desperate, my other friends had left, and I didn't fit in. So I guess I latched on to her because we spoke the same language. It seemed like the perfect friendship to me, I was insecure and she was confident, and I looked up to her. But it was very one-sided. I was the one who was more invested. She always lied about not wanting to go anywhere. When I wanted to go to the store with her, and she would say no, I would just be fine. If I didn't want to go and she wanted to, she would throw a tantrum. Which made me feel guilty. She talked to our mutual friends behind my back about me on instagram, when I still followed her, talked about me to other people, and when our falling out (which was full of crying and screaming) came out to everyone, she of course lied to everyone about what I had said. She made me feel uncomfortable in my dorm and I actually sat in my house study (where the matrons were) for hours after school because I didn't want to be in my dorm. After our falling out, she still talked shit behind my back, and the next couple months were my lowest. I still don't know why I was friends with her.

In my country we see things a little different. Persistent people are not necessarily seen as toxic, because the burden of responsibility always falls with the person who allows it to happen, in this case, you. But I don't blame you men... I had to learn that too, It happened to me once. I had this girl on to me in my job, but I was happy with my girlfriend. I gave her every excuse in the book every time she invited me because I was too weak to say a plain and simple "NO". It came to a point were everything exploded, and then I had to not only say no, but to insult her also. Its better to say no from the beggining.

I can relate to the sleepover story but in a different way. There is a girl that I am somewhat still friends with and she invites herself over to my house and is constantly saying that we should hang out. She knows that I'm currently struggling with depression that's been with me for around two years. She's aware that I am suicidal daily and she still thinks that I can socialize regularly. And I actually am crying right now because you understand. I can't handle people that I care about yelling at me. I will have an emotional breakdown. I've told that to some people and no one seems to understand. Ughhh this video is so good. Thank you, Daniel.

So I guess I can sort of understand why she does this, but she continues even when I explain to her exactly why I don't want to be around people. It's just frustrating, that's all. c:

Ugh, this made me tear up. For a couple reasons: 1) I'm similar in how I get into situations where it's difficult to say "no" without being rude, and it's not in me to be a rude person. So, a couple people in my family take advantage of me. But I'm in therapy, and part of what I'm trying to do is become more assertive. 2) One of my good friends was in a relationship with a girl a couple years ago, and it only lasted not even a full year, but she was just so toxic. Her name was Ashley, and she came about because my friend is originally friends with my ex and my ex was seeing a girl that was best friends with this girl. (I of course kept as far away as I could from this drama since my ex was in the middle of some of it.) But my friend was really taken with her, and it caused friction. After many problems arising, he eventually broke up with her, and is Now in a different relationship that's Much much healthier, in fact they Just moved in with each other and I'm Soooo happy for them! She's a really nice person for him. Much much better than that toxic girl he was with before. I think this Ashley girl was like 25 and still lived at home, never had a job, wasn't in school, did tons of pills, and God knows what else, always drove drunk, always was a bad influence on my ex's new gf, claimed to be into all sorts of nerdy shit I'm Sure to make herself look better to the one's she wanted to take advantage of. (Or so it looked to me at least.) I'm just really glad I never met her or really had any sort of communication from her, but she did talk shit about me. They're relationship ended because she went over to my friends place (an hour away) and decked him right in the face when he opened the door. (Because he wanted to end the relationship.) Cra-zy! Therapy is muchly needed with her. And I don't mean that as an insult, I really hope she get's help and can lead a normal Life someday.

So i fully understand your situation and know what you been through (except she was not as skilled as a manipulator and it only lasted for a couple of months). Worst thing is that she poisoned my friendship with other people around me after i broke up with her. The awkward situations and the uncomfortable environment people like this create are super stressful. Oh my god, my ex boyfriend and ex next friend were just like this. Both had parental issues and abandonment issues and unfortunately, i ended up meeting them around the same time. With my ex boyfriend, he used people to sleep with them to make himself feel more confident and convinced me that if he was honest about it, then that's all that mattered and I should have been understanding of his mental illness. With my ex bff, he just wanted to use people to get things and constantly lied to get them to stay with him, despite what a shitty person he was. He flat out said, "if you weren't so popular among your friends, I don't think I'd really talk to you." Looking back, there were SO, so many blaring red flags that I wish I had looked out for.

Something pretty similar to this happened to me, it was a lot harder to cut contact because we went to the same school. She would come over and harass me between classes or at lunch, she framed two of my friends for assault/threatening behaviour and tried to frame us for theft as well. I managed to get the school's help with keeping her away during school, but she started following us outside as well. She'd go to the same clubs and shops as (I don't know how she knew where we'd be sometimes, it was scary) so we got into the habit of never going to quieter shops alone and always taking this guy who's she's scared of to the club/just into town so she wouldn't bother us. We all thought we'd gotten rid of her, until recently. Three of us were at school for a study session, two of us sat down at a table while the other went to buy lunch, when she just walked over and sat down, she was acting all innocent and wouldn't leave. I got up and and went (sort of ran but I can't really run) to the library, to get help from someone. Luckily i found that friend of mine who she was scared of and he chased her of. She's moving school now, so she shouldn't be too much of a problem. Except that there is someone who she has under her thumb. This girl is really nice and always stands up for her friends but she's a total pushover when it comes to how people treat HER. She hates confrontation too much to stand up to her. She totally rules this girls life, even managed to convince her mother (she's the most manipulative person i've ever met) that her other friends or dangerous, so now she's not allowed to spend a night with a friend, go into town or even to the movies without her. I'm really worried but I have no way of helping her or even contacting her. All the ways we used to talk got cut of. She got a new phone so I don't even have her number... wish I could show her this

super late but I had a friend in high school, we told eachother literally everything and of course talked about the guys we liked or were with. I had been obsessed with this guy that was too much older than me (and my God how I wished that sick shit had just left me alone from the start) and she texted me, " i just f***ed _____" 🧍‍♀️ I was like "wtf?? you know how I feel about him why would you do that? you're like a sister to me" all she could respond with was something along the lines of "LOL, dang sorry bro. it's not a big deal tho calm down" 😐 literally broke girlcode and acted like I had nothing be upset over. there were even times after that where she even would rub her hands on my actual bf's thighs when I wasn't in the room while her man was actually at work. as if he wouldn't tell me whenever we left🤚 happy to say that was the last time I put up with her shit. 😌 7 years later and she on drugs heavy. I do hope she recovers but she shouldn't be expecting shit from me🤌

When I moved I did the same thing you did. I cut all contact. No explanation. No warning. Nothing. I was finally done! I let this person fuck with me and my mind for far too long. We had gone through extended periods of not talking. I'm sure she thought I'd mellow out maybe 6months or a year later then contact her. After all, that's what I had always done. Not this time. It will be 4 years this July. I don't regret it at all. Good for you that you figured out what a toxic situation you were in and getting out. The type who goes clubbing all the time and becomes "best friends" with all guys possible. All the events you have been talking about are kinda the same I have been going through with this girl. Her messaging me and talking with me and making me feeling special. The worst part of it was seeing her with other boys and almost preaching them, being more loving to them. Yet she still makes me feel so special to her. I'm glad I watched this video, even if I didn't watch all of it. ***** I did not expect your response to be this harsh but I agree with you. I'm not a content creator so I wouldn't know how it feels like for someone else to steal my work. But as I said, I too find it very astonishing to see his videos with flat-out copied work without even the simplest form of citations. As for the Pericope thing I don't know whether or not to believe it for the time being since I still find it hard to trust Nicole Arbor, but there's an argument to be made for how much followers he has there compared to the quality and frequency of his vlogs, in which it becomes very likely that he botted the damn thing. Although I wouldn't know about much of that since I don't frequent Periscope and I haven't watched a vlog of him on there before.

When you go away on holiday/vacation with someone who is your friend, that is truly when you know if that person is really your friend or not. I have been in these situations a few times when travelling abroad with someone who I thought was my friend up to that point. Vacations are the ultimate test. All too often friendships end after vacations together, as that is when you really get to see that person for who they really are. So your experience in Japan was your final wake up call. It was good that you went with her as that was the closure you needed.

I'm sorry you went through that. I've been in toxic friendships too, but nothing as crazy as yours. Both times, the other person wanted a friend who accepted them for their flaws...but neither was healthy for me. We met thru a mental health agency. All 3 of us were clients: receiving professional help for problems in our lives: they had both been accurately diagnosed, while I was still unaware of emotional child abuse, whose suppressed memories obscured the real source of my illness. My 1st relationship was with a defensive, belligerent woman who responded well to my empathy & kindness; but completely misinterpreted my own behavior to mean that I was a fellow lesbian, & one whom shared certain values. As it turned out, I had the opposite values; & I'm not sexually inclined in any orientation; & I was clueless how I was coming across to her. The find downspin was when she opened up enough to invite me to her house. She has a rescue cat with a physical disability, & I immediately offended her with an innocent remark. After another visit or 2, it was clear she was never going to trust me as much as I needed, & our friendship ended when she got herself kicked out of treatment by the agency. Then, I inadvertently got involved with a self-abusing drunk, simply because we both love science fiction, the movie Avatar was out, & he asked would I like to go? Most of our outings consisted of going to his favorite park to walk, followed by eating out, paying our own way. I was honest with him what my boundaries were, & it was great that his boundaries were the same: we'd be FRIENDS, nothing more. My good mood soured one day when we went to eat at a bar. I knew he drank, &'d made it absolutely clear I didn't want to ever be in the car with him when he'd been drinking, since I don't drive. I broke off our visits because, quite frankly, I couldn't afford to eat at the restaurants he chose, while he slandered one of my favorite fast food restaurants. I later found out he fell off the wagon, started cutting again, & all sorts of things. I was lucky to get out relatively unscathed, because I recognized when my situation was getting unhealthy. We all make stupid mistakes.

I had a slightly similar episode ten years ago with someone I had been friends with for 20 years. The big difference was I had been trying to reach her for a year prior to this episode after finding out that she had been in trouble with the wrong people. Plus I had guilt that I had never been there for her, the way she had for me since we were 6. I believe I just wanted to be the friend I never was to her and get her out of her bad circumstance I did receive a voicemail from her that year prior, but couldn’t hear it and wasn’t able to play it back for some reason. So I didn’t know what her situation was. The year later, I finally caught up to her in person and asked her out. She agreed to go see a movie with me the following Saturday and gave me her number, which I thought was her cell. I went home from seeing her and looking forward to our time together on Saturday. I called the number she gave me that night to confirm the time and place for our date. He mom picked up and yelled at me not to call again. I had met her mom and she was always kind with me. I don’t know what she was told about me behind my back, but it got her worked up. I was worked up as well, and like you, can’t bear being yelled at either. I was really upset that I was stood up, and never got a reply from my “once was friend” until 8 months later when I caught up with her for the second time on classmates.com of all places. I asked her what happened when we were supposed to go out, and just like on your skydiving trip, she told me that she already had a boyfriend and didn’t want to hurt my feelings. That was really disrespectful and degrading for her to think that I wouldn’t be able to process or accept the fact that she was already spoken for, and had to stand me up and keep me guessing. She also said that I made her uncomfortable and the worst thing she said that really stuck with me was her saying that she “had only one man in her life and that will never be me.” That bothered me for a good while coming for someone I had known from childhood. It turned out that she had been using narcotics, which is still her fault if she knew the effects of a substance and how it makes people behave toward others. Her issues are about her and no one else, but it didn’t hurt any less. Six years later she sends me a friend request on Facebook, and I deleted it. That was the last I heard of her, and it was just as she said it would always be... “she had only one man in her life and that will never be me.” I hope she can stand by that because that is nothing short of the truth.

Hi Daniel, I realize I’m 4 years late to this video, yet if you find my comment I’d like to say that while I understand that you felt mad at yourself for getting into those situations, it was also those very situations that pushed you to the brink causing your eyes to open & see clearly. I believe our lives are lived by the lessons we learn. Change & growth is hard for us & we are blind to things that seem obvious looking backwards. Life tried to open your eyes many times while in that “relationship”, starting with the skydiving incident. Each time it failed, the ante was upped until you found yourself half a world away with your eyes wide open screaming in disbelief. In my opinion, Life then made you live a week longer in Japan further cementing this lesson. It was a lesson & you figured it out. Many people never get to do that. Was it a hard lesson? Yes. Did you die? No. Could it have been much worse? Absolutely. Many people marry their abusers before waking up. I know you’re mad, & I get that. But I also get what a beautiful thing it was for you to learn & to grow, because you will see the next situation coming long before others and you’ll nope yourself out of there. You’re also uniquely able to use what you’ve learned to teach others so that they won’t find themselves having to learn the hard way like you did. Kind people think others are like themselves, and that’s unfortunately untrue. It’s what Ted Bundy relied upon to get his victims. You now see the wolves hiding among the flock. To me, that’s a cause for celebration. Be kind to yourself now - you’ve gone through enough.

+Emily Mae Boxall you mean plagiarism? because he plagiarised, which is kind of a serious issue. don't shove a ton of topics under a "youtube drama" umbrella just because it has something to do with a youtube content creator.

23:04- I can't handle anyone yelling at me it's a trigger I think. I just immediately breakdown. I'll hear my parents argue with a sibling and I'll freakout and cry for no reason. I can't handle loud noise I guess. This is all so relatable, except it was never romantic at all in my friendship. It was all about this guy (I'm a girl so the situation is inverted from yours) and I was literally crying about something and he just said "don't cry it makes me sad" on Skype and I remember almost freaking out at him, and he was constantly lying to me. This isn't really a coherent story, but I was just really pissed off at him.

i'm so sorry this happened to you and i'm glad she's out of your life. a similar thing happened to me except it was a family member. it was the same, she constantly put me down and say that i was ungrateful when i really wasn't. she made me feel so inadequate but it took me more than a year to completely cut her off. man i don't understand why people like this exist

im not saying plugs or ads are always unacceptable, but in this case and especially the way you tied it into your story, it does make your story feel disingenuous - and I mean that regardless of your actual motives.

I've had learning experiences like that. I think the worst thing for me was that I realized my friendship/love of this person was making me a worse person too. But it's a very sad thing, in the end, because I still love my friend; eight years of being best friends, you would, and it sucks that I had to lose her to learn this lesson. Sorry for your experience, Rep.

I absolutely agree with you and can relate with going out just to be sociable/to meet people. I used to go to concerts 2-3 times every single week for about 1 year with my best friend and they were usually (maybe 2 or 3 times out of 5) for her brother's band or for a band she liked that I didn't. The 2-3 concerts out of 5 that we went to, I had fun, but not as much fun as the others where I actually enjoyed the music. Anyways, I showed up late to a concert once and I found her drunk and high, which made me want to be more diligent when it came to meeting up with her. The day after the incident and telling myself that I have to be by her side, I realized that she's her own responsibility and not mine. If she fucks up, that's on her and not on me. A good outtake from going with her to shitty concerts is that I made numerous friends that I could actually hang out with outside of the concert scene (she was/is in school and I was/am not, so she's was/isn't free often.)
