This song was on their second full album, Exodus, which was released in March 2015. This was after a very tumultuous 2014 that had 3 members leave the group, their biggest hit song to that date, Growl, and the start of their first tour amid great controversy and immense pressure. When this all happened, the oldest member was only 24 and the youngest ones was 19/20 so you can imagine the pressure. At that time, people literally thought EXO would disband. I’m not exaggerating when I say this. So by the time El Dorado came out, the lyrics already applied to the group’s journey with their fans. The repackage of the second album is Love Right released in June 2015, and it also has El Dorado on it along with the song Exo 2014 (which we often refer to as Promise 2014). Promise was written by Exo members and it’s a song made specifically for the fans and addresses some of the issues that came out of everything from 2014, especially fan’s insecurities about the future of the group. So I don’t think it’s a stretch at all to conclude that the lyrics of El Dorado apply to Exo’s career, that they were aware of that, and intended that interpretation at the time the song came out. There are a few live concert video of Exo performing Promise. You can find the one from Tokyo Dome on ‘A BRAZILIAN’ yt Chanel which also has a lot of other Exo concert stages. But be careful with the Japan ones since they seem more likely to get copyright strikes. Anyway, it’s a super moving performance. I think you’d like the lyrics.

I don't know about their vocal range though so I can't say if they could make it. Ateez could make a strong effort I think. ZeroBaseOne has the vocals and the youthful energy but they're brand new so they don't have that legendary presence yet to pull off the aura.

I've only been a fan for the past couple of years but even still, I agree with you. This song definitely encapsulates their journey. It could really be a song that any successful group could sing (not meaning that other groups would do it as well but just that the message would be as meaningful) but only a VERY select few groups like EXO have made it to the top and reached legendary status. The light sabers where supposed to be longer like Star Wars however due to controversy they shortened the sabers. This is what the song is referring to. I hope this helps. Oh cool I didn't know they went to Mexico. Interesting that they chose the desert version of the myth rather than the jungle version for this if that's the case though. As for the recap, so basically I was right :) I actually saw all of this a couple of days later after I posted the video. Sometimes, if I feel I am either super close or if I'm WAY off I will look up what others have said so I came across this explanation. This recap doesn't go beneath the surface though as it only talks about the superficial meaning of the song. Don’t know if you are familiar with EXOs storyline concept. All the songs are connected. The desert sailboat can be related to Lay’s (former member technically but still an EXO) storyline. A lot of people don’t get into the storyline because it’s too confusing for them. The info I provided you came from SM Ent, EXOs company, I don’t go to other theorists. You did good 👍

@dohseyes5744 I'm familiar with them having a connected story, but I'm not familiar with what the full story is. The only reason I know everything is connected is because someone mentioned it on one of my other vids. I think it was "Hear Me Out"? I thought the video was giving off a Boys Love thing but someone mentioned the video was showing powers or something and started to explain the lore to me. You're right, there's way too much for someone like me who came into the Fandom very late to keep up on 😂 I didn't know this tied into a specific member's story though. Thats cool info to have! As for the song you mentioned, I believe someone has requested a reaction to a live performance of it.
