Andrew go to 16:41. He calls it Ann Arbor but it's a virtuoso's Railroad Bill. I know its a 3-chorder but I'd love to see it (and eventually learn it. I'll shout at you on your Patreon. We've done lessons before✌️).

I learned a lot about the tune while researching it for this month's lesson. I gained an entirely new appreciation for the piece and my admiration of Fahey's creative genius was further deepened.

Picaso once said, "It took me 4 years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child." Fahey exemplifies this quote for me. His songs sound to me like a tune a child would whistle while skipping along the sidewalk during a sunny day. No concern for advance techniques or trying to impress anyone. Simple and yet beautiful. Thanks for sharing the performance, tabs and lesson. CC

I’m so glad this was the choice for this month. This is the first Fahey song I ever tried to play, many decades ago. I met Fahey once and he wrote down for me some of tunings he used. I still have that piece of paper. He was a very nice guy. Can’t wait to delve into the lesson.

What a tribute - so true to Fahey's style. Rarely see someone put the time in to bring out his voice so accurately. Learning his songs takes time because they long, use uncommon tunings, and odd dissonant chords. Glad I subscribed to this channel!

Beautifully played! A tribute to Mississippi John Hurt by John Fahey. I saw Mississippi John Hurt in 1965 live at Newport and saw John Fahey, I think, live in 1985. Both remain among my favorites!

This is utterly sublime, thank you. If you ever get the chance I would love to know how Fahey played the “train part” on this song, around the 11minute mark on the version on “God, Time and Causality”. That was the first Fahey album I heard and this song had me mesmerized and got me hooked on JF.

Nice to see the Bozo. I had one I bought from Bozo himself. He had a shop in Escondido, Ca. I can tell that unique sound even over limited pad speaker. As life would have it I had a repair going on at Blue Guitar in San Diego. I got a call saying the guitar was destroyed having fallen over. It always had a heavy headstock. Thanks for the great music, Andrew.

Sorry to hear that Todd. I have a friend who went out to his Escondido shop to get his 6 from Bozo, I think it's a late 70s or early 80s model.

When I moved to Escondido in 73 my roommate who is Yugoslavian took me to Bozo's shop. I was able to play a 12 string that he had just finished building for Leo Kottke. Awsome day.

Beautifully played, as always. Amazing feeling and fluidity. You truly understand the music (not that I especially do and I can tell because of that, it's just that it's obvious you do). And man that Bozo sounds good! Watching you play makes me want to try fingerpicks -which I instinctively detest- one more time. Do you use here light strings as usual? I tend to use mediums, but I hear you play Fahey with lights (here, and in previous videos) and you sound more like him than anything I've heard. Or more like the way I'd like to sound playing Fahey. By the way, do you know what strings did HE use in the sixties and later? I haven't encountered that information anywhere... Man I think I want to learn this one from you. I think I'll use your Patreon...

Ismael, Thank you for being so kind. I recently got this guitar and really like it. I’ve played many 12s but only one 6 previously. Bozo made some significant structural changes some time in the later 70s I believe and we really seem to like these earlier ones. I was disappointed in how the tone came out on this recording compared to a few tests I ran prior to this day, I think it can record better than what you hear here but I’m glad the feedback has been positive regarding the sound. I wanted to string this with medium because the action is a little lower and I needed to counter the lower tuning with more tension, but only had lights on hand so that’s what I’m using here. I don’t know what Fahey used but I can look into it.

@@andrewlardner Wow, your Patreon lesson for this is unbelievable. What a tour de force. I'll spend the next weeks working on it (on the marginal time that work, the writing of a novel, and a three-weeks-old baby girl leave me). Also your tabs and lessons, from what I've seen yet, outstanding. Some of the best content I've seen anywhere. And it's so weird to finally hear you speak! A timid request for the future, in case you like him enough: a Glenn Jones tune; suggestions: "Portrait of Basho as a Young Dragon", from Fleeting (here is a good version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/onXZm4Glh6tsjZI. Tuning, as stated in liner notes: EBEG#A#D#, partial capo: 333000, so C#G#C#G#A#D# with no capo on, although I think in the vid he's one step down from that), or "Mother's Day", also from Fleeting (kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3nVqpyHdqZ_kKM. Tuning D#A#D#A#A#C#, Partial capo: 444400 -no capo: BF#BF#A#C#-)
. Trying to be helpful!😅
