Blood type in Japan has a connotation that western cultures do not have. For the Japanese, blood type is a way of determining someone's personality, behavior and even compatibility with others. Of course, there is no scientific basis for it, so it's just superstition. At any rate, I think they ask for your blood type because it is part of a cultural, common thing.
@TheTundraTerror10 жыл бұрын
Basically, it's the Japanese version of horoscopes.

It is a common cultural thing, comparable with the zodiac signs on the west. I personally don't believe in either but sometimes it gets to be a nice/interesting way to start a conversation with someone.

"why do they need your blood type?" Answer: Just as constellation signs are a fun way to show somebody's personality, in Japan, it's believed fairly strongly that a person's blood type decides someone's personality. The blood type question shows up on a lot of surveys and profiles.

Most Japanese don't believe that haha. I thought it would be for if you were in a car accident and were losing a lot of blood, someone who find your WonderSwan and know which type of blood type you would have to complete the transfusion. Meh, that's still less stupid than thinking your blood type determines your own unique ego.

Each game originally came with a little plastic case that the cartridge snaps into. It protects the contacts absolutely. The choice to have exposed contacts is what gave the handheld a slim profile. if they were in some sort of housing, the console would have been a bit thicker.

Blood type is because, in Japan it's considered to be one of those things that determines personality. Don't know if the system personalises in any way based on it, but its very similar to how we in the west look at zodiac signs. This is why a lot of Japanese games list their character's blood types.

Another great WonderSwan Color game I'd recommend is "Rhyme Rider Kerorican," which I reviewed on GameFAQs many years ago. No real text to speak of whatsoever, so it's easily playable even with no Japanese knowledge. There's also a great port of Golden Axe, and a pretty fun Zelda-esque action RPG called Star Hearts. If you really want something neat, though, try to find yourself a "WonderBorg." It's a spider robot that's programmable wirelessly through a special WonderSwan cartridge.

I actually bought a WSC years ago. I got the FF1 limited edition version of the game, which has the warrior of light on the screen's edge and comes with a copy of the game itself. I got it and 8 additional games(Including other Squaresoft titles FF2, FF4, Romancing SaGa, and Blue Wing Blitz) in a package deal for around $90 and free shipping. All of their games and the system even had thier boxes and instructions. I now have 25 titles, and my favorite has to be Makai Toushi SaGa, the remake of the first SaGa title which was released stateside under the name the Final Fantasy Legend for gameboy. These days WSC stuff is much more expensive, and the amazing deal I got will probably not be repeated anytime soon. Also I should point out that all of the games came with a hard plastic case to slide the games into when you weren't using them, because of the exposed teeth. I make sure that whenever I get new games for it it comes with that case.

There are a lot of Gundam games on the Wonderswan (4 on the Wonderswan, 13 on the Wonderswan Color). The one you have is more or less an adaptation of the first arc of the first anime series, but (AFAIK), most of them are spinoffs. I hope I can get a Wonderswan Color one of these days, as I'm a huge Gundam fan, and I'd love to play some of the more obscure Gundam games.

Not too sure. That's the only one I'm specifically aware of. I was sort of a casual WonderSwan Color player, as I happened to live in Japan between 2001 and 2003, when the system was at the height of its popularity and there were as many shelves of WSC games in stores as there were GBA games. Blood type is basically horoscopes. A lot of people believe that you can predict someone's personality by their blood type, like how a lot of people believe that birth month determines personality. So if someone in Japan said "She's blood type B", that's like someone in the US saying "He's a Capricorn".

There's also the fact that several WonderSwan games switch between vertical and horizontal. I once thought that Moonlight Museum, one such game that uses switching a lot, could be remade for smartphones, but then I realized that controlling a game that uses two buttons with a touchscreen would be a pain, plus it only sold about five copies anyway. And Klonoa is dead.
