We had an ant hill just off the back patio that we tried to destroy. As it was my children knew that if they left it alone the ants never bothered them. My toddler walked off the patio and stopped right on top of it. He started crying and I ran out the back door to him. He had several ants on him which I started swatting and swiping off of him. I had to take his shoes off to get them off. From the time he started crying to the time he was ant free was about 45 seconds. He had about a dozen stings on his legs. I prayed for him and he never had a reaction. He got down and started playing again and, thankfully, was just fine. We moved from that house, just to say.

Here in Hawaii we have the "Little Fire Ants". They can be so tiny as to be almost invisible, without reading glasses on. I go into my kitchen to cook, set one hand on the counter (not seeing anything there), and get bit by 3 or 4 of them. ;( They hurt, for a long time. The only things we've found that relieves the pain at all is ice, or a product for burns. In some ways they're even worse than standard red ants, because they're so hard to see, and nearly impossible to keep out. We had the standard sized ones in Florida when we lived there, and during a hurricane, with the rain falling hard, the red ants just formed a raft, hanging onto each other, and flowed down and out of the run off - where they began a new hill. We have some friends in Australia, and I hope the lfa's never get carried there, but it seems almost inevitable.

Why didn't the mom bring her inside and put some medicine on the bites? Instead she put her in the swing where she couldn't scratch or anything. Also there could have been a few hidden continuing to bite her. I got in a fire ant hill when I was 3 in the parking lot of the grocery store. They had trees in the middle with dirt around them. I was standing there while my parents loaded up the car. I didn't get sick, but it was bad. My grandmother was visiting from New York and she went inside and got some medicine right away.

Than you have to cool the body, between you have to call the doctor, especially if is a little child. Went to the next hospital. I have an allergy against bee and moscito sticks. This exact thing happened to my 2 year old a few months ago. We were at a water park and she walked right into an ant bed. I immediately started walking to a medical tent to see if I could get her some Benadryl, just in case. As I was walking there she went unconscious in my arms. I don’t remember much after that.. I’m so appreciative to all the people who ran to help me or help her I should say. This one man ripped her from my arms and started doing what he could. I am so so great full because I was absolutely useless. She had a seizure on the way to the hospital, and the ambulance had to pull over on the highway. I thought I was gunna loose my baby. I totally understand what that mother went though. She’s fine now, God had his hands on her but never underestimate an ant bite, especially with your infant.

I went through this in 1956 my dad left me accidently on a ant bed. But as that was bad it showed a flaw that has haunted my family for my lifetime.God knows I love my mother but this is what happens when a woman runs the family. She would make decisions that crippled me and ignore me when I told her about the extreme abuse a bully was exerting on me. One day while running from this jerk I ran full speed into a window unit and it did affect my mental abilities. She made me hate school, girls, and other things. She was so critical of my dad it made him crazy. Her decisions wore often reactionary stiffuling my early development.
